The next morning, I opened my eyes. It was already noon—12 o'clock. I had no idea why I'd slept so long; my whole body felt weak. Remembering what I saw last night, I rushed to the window and looked down.
The courtyard below the apartment building was tidy. The trash bins were lined up neatly, and the ground was spotless, as if nothing had happened at all.
"Was it all just a dream?" I muttered. I wanted to go to work, but then I remembered what Mrs. Blake had told me—not to go anywhere for the next few days. So I called in and took a week off.
Strangely, three days passed without anything unusual happening. The ghost from the cemetery didn't come for me, nor did Lily Wu or Nathan Li.
I was eating when the phone rang. The caller ID showed an unfamiliar number.
"Kid, hurry over. The old lady and I have decided to help you after all."
It was Mr. Cooper. I immediately put down my chopsticks.
"Alright, I'll be right there."
"But about the fee..."
"Everything's negotiable."
