Misunderstood Intentions
Quentin Qian’s eyes nearly popped out of his head at Mia Qian’s words, panic flooding his face. He looked like he was about to jump out of his skin, sheer desperation written all over him.
He wanted to shout at Mia Qian, "Tell your second uncle—whatever happens, he must not act!"
Just moments ago, Lily Evans had warned the Qian Family to keep their heads down—if they behaved, she’d spare the rest of their clan. But if Eric Qian dares stir up trouble in Ningport right now, Lily won’t hesitate; he’ll be the first one she takes down!
Eric Qian isn’t just any son—he’s Quentin Qian’s pride and joy. Sending him to Ningport was meant to toughen him up, to let him earn his stripes. Quentin Qian planned to have Eric gain experience for a few years, then hand him the reins as patriarch!
Eric Qian is, without a doubt, the apple of Quentin Qian’s eye!
It was Quentin Qian who masterminded the sabotage of Lily Evans’s business in Ningport. If Eric Qian actually goes through with it and something terrible happens to him, Quentin Qian would be utterly devastated—he might not even want to go on living!
But now, Quentin Qian is struck down by a stroke, completely unable to speak. He’s trapped—helpless, furious, and desperate to get his warning out.
Yet Mia Qian—bless her heart—seems to have completely missed his meaning.
Gripping Quentin Qian’s hand tightly, Mia Qian declared with fire in her eyes, "Don’t worry, Grandpa! I’ll write to Second Uncle right now and tell him to put Lily Evans in her place! Hmph, Lily snatched Kingston from us, took away our most lucrative town. We’ll take her fleet business back—just you wait!"
Hearing Mia Qian’s words, Quentin Qian was so distraught he could practically bang his head against the wall—if only he could! Disaster was looming, and Mia had no idea.
This is as good as sending Eric Qian to his death!
Quentin Qian desperately wanted to say, "Whatever happens, don’t go up against the Palace of Qin again!"
But he couldn’t get a single word out.
Mia Qian’s hatred for Lily Evans made her teeth chatter, but she forced herself to swallow her fear. She threaded her way through the crowd of severed heads, grabbed paper and pen, and returned to Quentin Qian’s bedside to write. As she wrote, she said, "Don’t worry, Grandpa. Second Uncle is so capable—he’ll surely win back our territory. Hmph! The Qian Family rules the Southeast with an iron fist. Why should we be afraid of Lily Evans?"
Quentin Qian watched helplessly as Mia Qian wrote that death warrant of a letter, unable to stop her. The stress overwhelmed him, and he coughed up blood.
Mia Qian, frightened, quickly helped her grandfather lie down. "Grandpa, Lily Evans has done this to you—it’s unforgivable! I’ll complain to Second Uncle in my letter. He’ll make sure Lily Evans suffers!"
With that, Mia Qian continued writing.
Quentin Qian was truly at his wit’s end, his eyes wide with panic as he let out muffled cries.
“Don’t worry, Grandpa, I’m almost done. Once Second Uncle gets this letter, we can finally relax,” Mia Qian said.
Quentin Qian thought to himself: Once Second Uncle gets this letter, my most beloved son is doomed!
After finishing the letter, Mia Qian pressed Quentin Qian’s finger to sign it, sealed it, and hurriedly handed it to her subordinate, instructing them to deliver it secretly to Ningport as fast as possible.
Quentin Qian watched Mia Qian’s departing figure and thought: That foolish girl—doesn’t she realize that Lily Evans is already at war with our family? There’s no way she’ll let that letter reach Ningport in secret!
But that never crossed Mia Qian’s mind. She was consumed by her hatred for Lily Evans, thinking only of how her Second Uncle would act once he received the news and snatch Lily’s business away.
After sending the letter, Mia Qian ordered her subordinates to clean up the severed heads and move Quentin Qian to another room.
In the new room, Mia Qian said to Quentin Qian, "Grandpa, let’s leave the Palace of Qin as soon as possible! Seeing all those severed heads just now really scared me. Can we go back to the Qian Family’s ancestral home?"
For once, Mia Qian said something sensible. Quentin Qian nodded with difficulty, and Mia Qian said, "Grandpa, I’ll have someone pack up. Let’s leave the Palace of Qin right away."
