Many Children, Learning to Love Each Other

2/14/2026

Evan Zhou spent a long time brooding alone, not realizing he was overthinking things. Serena Feng might be angry at him, but she wasn’t so petty—not to that extent, at least...

She wasn’t the sort to slam the door and disappear just because she was upset, like a little girl.

The reason Serena had the shadow guards block the entrance was simply because she was treating Yana Zhan.

Yana’s postpartum illness stemmed from incomplete cleaning after childbirth and poor recovery, resulting in serious gynecological problems. Her bleeding wasn’t constant, but could drag on for ten days or half a month at a time. With things like this...

How could Yana’s body not be weak after all that?

And for illnesses like this, even if an ordinary doctor guessed the problem, they wouldn’t dare treat it. If they did, without seeing clear symptoms, they wouldn’t know how to prescribe the right medicine. So...

Over the years, Yana’s health kept swinging between better and worse, never truly getting well.

It was lucky Serena arrived when she did. Otherwise, if Yana kept dragging it out, who knows how much longer she could have lasted.

“If Evan won’t go find me, couldn’t you at least write to William and have him send a doctor?” Yana was so young—actually younger than Serena—but years of illness had worn her down until there was no brightness left in her.

“We didn’t want to trouble you all,” Yana lowered her head, hiding the unease and helplessness in her eyes.

When she and Evan came here, they chose to leave their past behind—including everyone they used to know.

"What do you mean, trouble? You call Jinling ‘senior brother,’ Evan calls me ‘elder sister’—are those just empty words? For you and Evan to keep us at such a distance, you’re really doing it on purpose." Serena sighed. Yana just bowed her head and stayed silent, and Serena could only shake her head, helpless.

Fortunately, these past years, Yana hasn’t kept things bottled up. She has a husband and a son, and in a place where no one knows her, she doesn’t have to worry about her identity. Her mood has been good; otherwise, she never would’ve lasted long enough for Serena to save her—she’d have died long ago.

Without the Smart Med-Pack, Serena had to examine her herself. Yana felt embarrassed, but when she thought of her son, she cooperated.

Her child is still young—she can’t be without a mother. Even if she hasn’t been able to fulfill her duties these past years...

Every stitch and penny spent on Leo comes from Yana; Evan’s clothes are all sewn by her, too. No matter how exhausted she is, she never lets her husband or son worry about food or clothing.

After nearly ten years of study, Serena’s medical skills have improved a lot. Even without the Smart Med-Pack, she’s more than capable of handling most difficult cases.

After examining Yana’s condition, Serena didn’t hide anything: "You’ve let this drag on too long. It won’t get better overnight—you’ll need a long period of careful recovery."

"Can it be cured?" Yana straightened her clothes, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.

"It can—if you cooperate."

"Then... will I be able to get pregnant again in the future?" Yana hesitated, then asked.

She had one son, but it still felt too fragile. One child alone is too risky—not that she wanted to curse Leo, but...

If anything ever happened to Leo, how would she and Evan go on living?

If anything ever happened to Leo, when she and Evan grew old, who would be there for him?

Yana had been raised as a proper young lady in the Zhan family—she’d always been taught that a wife’s duty was to bear children, that more children meant more blessings.

"With proper treatment, yes. But... you’re older now, and having a child would be dangerous. If you do get pregnant, you must have a competent female physician by your side." Serena almost said she should be notified personally, but remembering how distant Evan and Yana kept themselves, she swallowed the words.

"Alright," Yana replied softly, not saying anything more.

"Get some rest. I’ll have someone prepare your medicine." Some of the herbs needed were rare, and the local shops on the grasslands might not stock them—or if they did, the quality wouldn’t be great.

After leaving Yana’s room, Serena sent a shadow guard to contact the Young Family Pharmacies and arrange a direct transfer of herbs from Cloud City.

Once again, Flash volunteered for the errand, beating out the other shadow guards to take the job.
