Just Don't Regret It
Mrs. Tang directly went up and pressed the hand seal, took back her family's house deed and the contract termination papers, feeling quite pleased. She just wanted to reclaim the house; making money was the last thing on her mind.
The few nearby families originally just wanted to make a fuss to get some compensation, but Su Li's family simply didn't entertain their commotion. Whoever caused trouble was kicked out, and there was not a single cent of compensation.
Those few families were already in an awkward position, but now stirred up by Mrs. Tang, watching her lead the contract termination, they got carried away and immediately followed suit to cancel their contracts.
Mrs. Tang, seeing her stirring up the trouble was effective, felt quite pleased inside and said to Bailu, "Go back and tell Su Li, we don't even care about her!"
"Exactly, we don't care!" Those few families also momentarily got the illusion that they could make money by farming vegetables themselves.
"Fine, just don't come back regretting it and begging us!" Bailu sneered as she packed up the contracts and such.
"No regrets! Regrets are for fools!" Those few families shouted.
So everyone dispersed in a noisy manner. Bailu still carried some anger in her heart, her face was sour. Upon entering, she met Steward Yuan.
Yuan Yu smiled warmly at her, "Sister Bailu, who bullied you?"
Bailu snorted, told Yuan Yu about the contract termination, and said, "Brother Yuan Yu, how can there be such ungrateful, thankless people in the world?"
Steward Yuan sat with her under the corridor, watching her angrily defend Su Li, finding her even more adorable, and smiled, "You saw the ungrateful ones clearly through this small matter. Kicked them out. Sister Bailu, you should be happy."
Bailu thought about it and agreed, "Brother Yuan Yu, you're right. Finding the ungrateful ones and kicking them out, not letting them prosper, that's the best!"
"Exactly, so don't get angry over those people. They're not worth it. Someday, they'll regret it!" Yuan Yu said.
"Mm, when they come back regretting it and begging me, I'll be sure to have a good laugh at them!" Bailu said.
Meanwhile, just as Bailu was talking with Yuan Yu about how the villagers would regret it, Mrs. Tang happily went home. On the way, a few families caught up with her, all asking about the greenhouse vegetables.
Mrs. Tang, feeling proud, replied casually, "What's the rush? We'll be taking vegetables from the greenhouse every day, it's clear to see. It's not difficult, not difficult! Don't worry!"
Those few families heard Mrs. Tang's words and felt reassured, walking together towards the village. But on the way, they saw several people running towards Su Li's house, with Su Li's third aunt, Sun, leading the front.
Mrs. Tang shouted at Sun, "Why are you running like you're chasing ghosts? Look how worried you are!"
Sun said while running, "Didn't you all just terminate the contract with Su Li's family? That freed up several plots of land, let's go grab them!"
As soon as she finished speaking, Sun disappeared without a trace.
Mrs. Tang scoffed, "What big money can you make selling vegetables? Pathetic."
With that, Mrs. Tang swaggered away, leaving those few families who had just terminated their contracts. Now that their heated impulsiveness cooled down, they started feeling uneasy and regretful about losing such good jobs. Seeing so many people rushing to grab the land they gave up, several couldn't sit still.
"Maybe, maybe we shouldn't have terminated the contract? A daily business making dozens of wen, besides selling vegetables, we can't find anything else," a man hesitated.
"I... I also feel a bit regretful..." a woman said.
"But... didn't Mrs. Tang say we could grow vegetables ourselves?" another woman started to waver.
