"What are you doing?" Claire Yi had been injured earlier and bullied by Morgan Shangguan. Wanting to complain to Damien Gray but unable to find him, she later heard he was in the Nether Courtyard and had been hurt himself. So she rushed over, only to push open the door and witness this scene.
Seeing Claire Yi on the verge of tears, Morgan Shangguan leaned against Damien Gray, panting for a moment before sitting up straight and saying nonchalantly, "Just feeding him medicine!"
Damien Gray couldn't help but let out a low laugh. Morgan Shangguan glared at him, prompting him to quickly suppress his smile and nod, "Yes, she's really just giving me medicine!"
Tears welled up in Claire Yi's eyes as she shouted uncontrollably, "Do you need to take off your clothes to feed medicine?" Enough! She couldn't stand it any longer!
Morgan Shangguan glanced at Damien Gray. The quilt had slipped down to his waist, and he wore nothing at all. She frowned slightly and replied coolly, "His Highness was just feeling a bit hot." As she spoke, she pulled the quilt up, wrapping Damien Gray tightly.
Damien Gray's eyes were full of amusement. He leaned in and kissed her on the lips, not caring about Morgan Shangguan's glare. He couldn't be happier.
Who would have thought that beneath Morgan Shangguan's seemingly indifferent exterior, she could be so adorable!
"You two..." Claire Yi watched the pair flirting, completely ignoring her presence. Tears streamed down her face, and she could no longer bear to watch. She turned and ran away, crying.
No one paid any attention to Claire Yi. Morgan Shangguan glanced at Damien Gray and snorted, "Don't let it happen again!" Did he really think she was a fool? She knew exactly how strong her palm strike was—it couldn't possibly be that serious!
Damien Gray nodded, his eyes still full of laughter. As for whether it would happen again, that was entirely up to her.
Seeing Morgan Shangguan about to leave, Damien Gray quickly reached out to stop her, reverting to a weak demeanor. Looking at her, he said, "Princess Consort, are you really going to abandon your seriously injured husband like this?"
Morgan Shangguan shot him a look and retorted, "What more do you want?"
Damien Gray pulled her back toward the bed as he spoke, "Princess Consort, why don't you sleep with me tonight? What if something happens to me and no one knows?"
Looking at Damien Gray's forlorn expression, Morgan Shangguan didn't know whether to be angry or amused. If anyone embodied the phrase 'pushing one's luck,' it was Damien Gray! Something happens to him? She almost wanted to see it!
"Mo'er..." Damien Gray gazed at her with a sorrowful face, as if her refusal would break his heart.
When Morgan Shangguan said nothing, Damien Gray simply dragged her onto the bed. She didn't resist, closed her eyes, and lay beside him, frowning slightly. She was being far too indulgent with Damien Gray!
Suddenly, Morgan Shangguan opened her eyes and looked at Damien Gray calmly, without a trace of warning. Damien Gray's movements paused, a hint of regret in his gaze, and he obediently held her without any extra moves. He was wise enough not to cross Morgan Shangguan's boundaries.
Perhaps it was the effect of the medicine, but Damien Gray soon fell asleep, while Morgan Shangguan remained wide awake—after all, it was still broad daylight.
Looking at Damien Gray's handsome face so close to hers, Morgan Shangguan's eyes were calm, yet no one could see what lay beneath that calmness.
Damien Gray should have been getting better after taking the medicine, but Morgan Shangguan noticed his temperature was rising. Seeing his tightly furrowed brows, she suddenly remembered something and quickly patted his face. "Damien Gray, wake up..."
After a long moment, Damien Gray finally opened his eyes and looked at her, but seemed somewhat confused.
Morgan Shangguan hurriedly asked, "Did you take the wrong medicine?" She suddenly realized her palm strike couldn't have caused such severe symptoms, but his condition didn't seem faked. Could he have taken something to fool her?
Damien Gray seemed to think for a while before understanding her question. He nodded slightly. Seeing her frown and the worry in her eyes, he tried to reassure her, "I'm fine, I'll be better after some sleep..." But only his lips moved—no sound came out.
Damien Gray felt complicated. He liked seeing her worry about him, but didn't want her truly distressed. This time, he genuinely wanted to comfort her, and he spoke the truth. Because of his unique body, every time he took medicine there were side effects. Different medicines brought different results, so before trying a new one, he never knew what would happen. This time it was just a fever—he should be fine after a nap.
He didn't regret taking the medicine, but felt he'd miscalculated. He shouldn't have kept her here. He'd wanted her to stay and acted on impulse, forgetting about this consequence.
Morgan Shangguan knew about his special condition. If he took medicine, he had to gather yin energy to help absorb it, or else there would be adverse reactions.
"Are you an idiot? You know you can't take medicine recklessly, yet you still do it!" Morgan Shangguan's eyes were full of anger. She truly didn't know what to do with Damien Gray.
Damien Gray forced himself not to fall asleep. He seemed to smile, then moved slightly, pressing his forehead to hers. But he couldn't hold on any longer and closed his eyes, drifting off—or perhaps losing consciousness.
It was easy for him to create the pulse of a serious illness and fool those imperial physicians—he didn't even need medicine for that. But with Morgan Shangguan, he wasn't so confident, so he had to take something. It wouldn't kill him anyway; otherwise, he wouldn't have survived this long.
In truth, when he was young, it wasn't his own illness that tormented him most, but the side effects of the medicines he took. He'd endured those years; he wouldn't die so easily now. Especially since there was someone he cared about in this world—he wasn't ready to leave yet.
"Damien Gray!" The burning heat on his forehead made Morgan Shangguan frown. If this kept up, he'd end up brain-damaged for sure.
Damien Gray had taken medicine that causes fever, but he hadn't expected the side effect to be this bad. The situation was not looking good.
But Morgan Shangguan had no other solution. She didn't dare move him for fear of making things worse. If only she'd studied half-alive, half-dead people more thoroughly!
She thought about it, but finding a half-alive, half-dead person was no easy task. She'd always been curious about them, but never had the chance to meet one, let alone study them.
