The Intermediary Mr. Sawyer

1/4/2026

"That's your problem. You handle it," Mr. Sawyer said, frowning. "There are tons of people in Six Saints Town. If you're willing to pay, you'll always find workers."

Mr. Sawyer instantly froze and slowly raised his hands. "Ladies, I have no quarrel with you. Maybe you've got the wrong person?"

"No mistake, we came for you." The girl on the left laughed softly. "Mr. Sawyer, we're all foxes from Liaozhai—don't play dumb! Have a seat!" (Note: 'Foxes from Liaozhai' refers to clever, cunning characters from the classic Chinese supernatural tales 'Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio'.)

"Alright, alright, don't get excited!" Mr. Sawyer had no choice but to sit down, cursing Zachary Zhang in his heart.

"Alright, that's all. I'm heading back," Mr. Sawyer said, getting up to leave.

"It's still raining—why not wait until it stops? I've set up plenty of entertainment for you. You'll love it!" As soon as Zachary Zhang finished speaking, he nodded to the butler.

"Are you here for money or a person? As long as it's something I can do, I'll help! But you should put the weapon away, just in case..."

"Cut the crap!" the girl on the right sneered. "April, search him!"

"Alright." The girl on the left, called April, quickly withdrew her hand and began searching him with swift, practiced movements.

At first, Mr. Sawyer was calm, thinking they wouldn't find anything. Suddenly, April pinched his cheek and gently tugged—a mask, thin as a cicada's wing, came off his face.

Mr. Sawyer immediately revealed a different face. On his cheek was a clear tattoo—the mark of the Specter Group!

"Hmm?" April frowned. "From Country R?" (Note: 'Country R' is a fictional placeholder for a foreign country, sometimes used in Chinese fiction to represent Russia or another unspecified nation.)

Mr. Sawyer kept up his respectable act in front of Zachary Zhang, but as soon as he entered the room, his true colors showed. He grabbed two girls, one in each arm, and laughed as he headed inside.

"Daisy..." April looked at the girl across from her.

Daisy immediately said, "I'll contact our superiors right away."

With that, Daisy turned and left the courtyard.

Only April and Mr. Sawyer were left in the room.

"Yes, yes, yes," Zachary replied quickly.

"Shut up." April shoved her weapon forward, showing no mercy, and Mr. Sawyer immediately fell silent.

Mr. Sawyer wondered silently, who exactly was targeting him?

"That's your problem. You handle it," Mr. Sawyer said, frowning. "There are tons of people in Six Saints Town. If you're willing to pay, you'll always find workers."

"There's plenty of people, but..." Zachary Zhang noticed Mr. Sawyer's sour expression and quickly switched topics. "This mining disaster forced the old man to reveal our family's big secret ahead of time. Now a bunch of the Zhangs are getting restless. I don't care about most of them, but my older brother and my nephew..."

Mr. Sawyer didn't care. "Twenty years ago you managed to break your brother's leg. Can't you make sure your nephew can't walk too? Whatever, you've worked hard all these years—I'll help you one more time."

Zachary Zhang was thrilled. "Thank you, Mr. Sawyer."

In no time, the butler brought over seven or eight young, pretty girls, who lined up waiting to be picked.

"Mr. Sawyer, don't be shy! They may not have seen much of the world, but they're clean," Zachary Zhang said with a meaningful look.

Mr. Sawyer was tempted.

A smile appeared on Mr. Sawyer's face. "Thanks for going to all this trouble."

"Of course, of course," Zachary Zhang waved his hand, and the butler led the girls into a nearby room.

"Take good care of Mr. Sawyer. If you do well, there's a reward for you," Zachary Zhang instructed, then left with the butler.

Mr. Sawyer kept up his respectable act in front of Zachary Zhang, but as soon as he entered the room, his true colors showed. He grabbed two girls, one in each arm, and laughed as he headed inside.

"Mr. Sawyer, you have to treat us extra nice!" one pretty girl teased coyly.

"Hahaha, no problem, no problem," Mr. Sawyer said, floating with excitement as he planted a kiss on the girl's cheek.

When he wasn't looking, a flash of disgust crossed the girl's face, and she exchanged a knowing glance with the other girl.

The door closed.

Just as Mr. Sawyer was about to drag the two girls to the bed, the one on his left suddenly sprang into action. She grabbed Mr. Sawyer's throat and pressed lightly, "Don't move, or I'll crush your windpipe!"

Mr. Sawyer's face changed drastically, just as he was about to fight back.

The girl on his right pressed a weapon to his waist. "If you don't want to be crippled, you'd better behave!"

Have a seat!"

"Alright, alright, don't get excited!" Mr. Sawyer had no choice but to sit down, cursing Zachary Zhang in his heart.

His place had been infiltrated to this extent, and he still knew nothing!

Idiot!

"Are you here for money or a person? As long as it's something I can do, I'll help! But you should put the weapon away, just in case..."

"Cut the crap!" the girl on the right sneered. "Ayuan, search him!"

"Alright." The girl on the left, called Ayuan, quickly withdrew her hand and began searching him with swift, practiced movements.

At first, Mr. Sawyer was calm, thinking they wouldn't find anything. Suddenly, Ayuan pinched his cheek and gently tugged—a mask, thin as a cicada's wing, came off his face.

Mr. Sawyer immediately revealed a different face. On his cheek was a clear tattoo—the mark of the S Organization!

"Hmm?" Ayuan frowned. "From Country R?"

Mr. Sawyer's expression turned serious. "You've got sharp eyes, miss, to know where I'm from. Since you've figured out my background, shouldn't you let me go? I bet your boss doesn't want trouble with mine, right? Six Saints Town isn't your concern, so why push so hard? How about we both take a step back and be friends instead..."

"Adou..." Ayuan looked at the girl across from her.

Adou immediately said, "I'll contact our superiors right away."

With that, Adou turned and left the courtyard.

Only Ayuan and Mr. Sawyer were left in the room.

Mr. Sawyer quickly regained his composure and said, "Beautiful lady, since you know my identity, there's no need to be so tense. Why not sit down and talk this out?"

"Shut up." Ayuan shoved her weapon forward, showing no mercy, and Mr. Zuo immediately fell silent.

Mr. Sawyer wondered silently, who exactly was targeting him?

He'd really been careless, letting someone target him without even noticing!

Careless!

Meanwhile, Adou quickly contacted Cherry Miller and reported her findings.

Cherry Miller sneered when she heard it was the S Organization from Country R. "I knew it! So it's them. The S Organization is notorious—getting a satellite jammer is nothing for them. Looks like all the gold from Six Saints Town is going straight into their pockets! Adou, go tell him: I don't care who he is, once he's here, he's on my turf. If he's a dragon, he'll coil up for me; if he's a tiger, he'll lie down! Where isn't there a green hill to bury a body? This beautiful place is perfect feng shui for a grave!"

Adou couldn't help but smile. "Yes, I'll go right away."

Although Adou's direct boss was Ryan Yin, everyone knew Cherry Miller was Ryan Yin's future wife.

So the secret guards all treated Cherry Miller as half their boss.

Adou soon returned and relayed Cherry Miller's words exactly. "Mr. Sawyer, the S Organization may be powerful, but a strong dragon can't beat a local snake. If you want to get out of here in one piece, you'd better cooperate. Otherwise, no one will ever know where your bones end up."

Ayuan pushed her weapon forward again, the air thick with the smell of blood—clearly, she wasn't holding back.

Mr. Sawyer's face changed again.

Who exactly were these two girls' bosses?

Were they really going to ignore the S Organization's reputation?

"Let me ask you: When did you start working with Zachary Zhang? Did you provide the satellite jammer? Where did all the gold from Six Saints Town go? Where's the underground river? What did you give Zachary Zhang in return?" Adou fired off several questions in a row.
