Can He Get the Money?
Jasper Cheng was still renting the same courtyard as before, right next to the Eight Treasures Bistro and Arthur Evans's shop.
Sam Evans limped and half-ran, finally making it to Cat's Eye Alley. He was so bruised and battered that the pain was almost unbearable. He decided to head home first, find some herbal wine for his injuries, and then go look for his fourth brother.
Sam Evans slowly walked home and knocked on the door.
The door was quickly opened by Susan Evans.
Susan Evans saw Sam Evans's bruised face and cried out, "Oh my! Sam, how did you end up like this? What about the money? Did you manage to borrow it?"
Sam Evans winced in pain, inhaling sharply, and said as he walked inside, "I took a nasty fall. Let me come in and put on some medicine first, it really hurts."
Susan Evans quickly stepped aside, and Sam Evans shuffled into the house.
Lana Evans and Jasper Cheng heard the commotion and both rushed out of their rooms.
Lana Evans anxiously asked, "Dad, did you get the money?"
Jasper Cheng also blurted out, "What about the money? Were they willing to lend it to you?"
Su Sanyun was in terrible pain. He went inside and flopped onto the bed, saying, "I just went to Ali's place. Ali was asleep, so I haven't talked to her about this yet. Fourth Brother is at the shop, I was planning to find him, but first I need to go home and put on some medicine."
Cheng Jin responded anxiously, "Dad, after you put on the medicine, you must hurry and talk to Fourth Uncle! The creditors aren't going to wait, and if we don't pay back soon, they'll take Lanxiang away to settle the debt!"
Su Lanxiang joined in, acting frightened as she clung to Su Sanyun's arm. "Dad, I don't want to be sold again! Dad, you already lost me once, you can't lose me a second time!"
Lanxiang's words struck Sanyun right in the heart. He hurriedly assured her, "Lanxiang, don't be afraid, Dad won't let anyone take you away as payment!"
Su Lanxiang quickly said, "Dad, then you should go borrow money from Fourth Uncle right away."
"Alright, alright, I'll go soon." Su Sanyun grabbed the medicine bottle and shooed everyone else out, leaving only Mrs. Sun to help him apply the medicine.
Su Sanyun took off his clothes to check his injuries from the fall.
Both knees were scraped, a large patch on his palm was injured, his arm was badly bruised, and the wound on his face was from hitting the ground. The whole sight was almost comical.
Mrs. Sun quickly treated Su Sanyun's wounds and urged him, "Go find Fourth Brother quickly, while he's still at the shop. If you wait too long, you might miss him."
"Alright!" Su Sanyun struggled to get dressed and hobbled out of the house, opening the courtyard gate and heading for Fourth Brother's shop.
Su Lanxiang and Cheng Jin stayed inside, peeking through the crack in the window.
Cheng Jin asked, "Lanxiang, do you think your dad can get the money?"
Su Lanxiang thought for a moment and said, "He probably can. My Fourth Uncle is really good to my dad. As long as Dad asks, he'll definitely get the money."
Cheng Jin chuckled, "Lanxiang, with the relationship between your dad and Fourth Uncle, once the money's borrowed, we probably won't have to pay it back, right?"
Su Lanxiang glanced at Cheng Jin and laughed, "My Fourth Uncle's family is loaded! Giving our family a bit is nothing to them. They don't need that little bit of silver, so why bother paying it back? Stingy much."
Cheng Jin nodded eagerly, "Lanxiang, your Fourth Uncle's family is really rich. No wonder he's such a big boss!"
Cheng Jin used to think her own family was well-off in town, but coming out here, she realized she was a frog at the bottom of a well. The Cheng family's assets were nothing compared to Arthur Evans, and even less so compared to the powerful and wealthy Prince of Qin's household.
Su Lanxiang was delighted, "Exactly! As long as Dad's here, Fourth Uncle will definitely help us out."
