Taking Two Hostages

2/14/2026

After dealing with those people, Evan Yang had already left Floating Sky City and headed to the Swain Family estate. There were no pedestrians here—only those up in the mountains—so it was easy to be discovered.

As soon as Evan arrived at the estate, a crowd gathered. Their leader was the same captain who had been taught a lesson by Nina Ye. Seeing Evan again but not spotting the woman, he snorted coldly, "Kid, you'd better get lost!"

"I want to have a chat with your steward," Evan said with a smile.

"Chat? Chat about what? Get lost!" The captain snorted, thinking Evan was just someone with low cultivation.

But as soon as he finished speaking, he let out a miserable cry—his legs dropped to their knees, right in front of Evan.

"Why are you kneeling to me?" Evan said with a smile.

The surrounding guards exchanged glances, not understanding why their captain was being so respectful to an outsider.

There was no way the captain would kneel to Evan—just now, it was clear his knees had been struck by something, forcing him down.

"You..." The captain struggled to get up, only to find his knees bleeding.

Evan smiled, "No need to be so sincere—look, your knees are bleeding."

"You—everyone, take him down!" The captain, though unsure how Evan had done it, was furious—he had never been forced to kneel to anyone like this.

Seeing the captain angry, the guards hurried forward to surround Evan, trying to capture him. But all they saw were shadows—Evan moved so fast, even without his Sky‑Soaring Boots, that they simply couldn't keep up.

All that could be heard were the guards' screams as they fell one after another. The captain was shocked, realizing he'd encountered a true expert. "You—don't run!"

"I'll go in with you," Evan said with a smile, seeing the captain rush ahead. In a few steps, Evan caught up, kicked him, and sent him flying through the Swain Family gate.

The commotion inside was immediate, and soon more guards came pouring out.

Evan was instantly surrounded, and just then the steward hurried out. Seeing it was Evan, he snorted, "Didn't I hand the man over to you? What more do you want?"

"I want you to come with me," Evan said with a smile.

"You! Dream on!" the steward snorted.

"So you're saying you want to resist?" Evan asked, feigning doubt.

The steward shouted, "Take down this troublemaker!" He had originally planned to cover things up with the thug and let Evan take him away, but now, with Evan coming back, he was forced to deal with him directly.

Unexpectedly, the steward was so stubborn. Evan had to seal his mouth again and told him, "Only I can undo this seal. No one else, no matter how strong, can help. If you give up your chance to talk, you'll just wait for death."

The steward's eyes darted around, unsure what he was thinking.

"What now?" Nina asked curiously.

"You stay here and keep watch," Evan said. "I don't believe the Swain Family doesn't know. If it comes to it, I'll destroy the whole clan." He snorted coldly.

The steward and the thug were shocked at Evan's threat to destroy the Swain Family, though Evan was only intimidating them. After all, this wasn't the human realm; wiping out a clan here could have unpredictable consequences.

Even Nina was startled by Evan's methods, but Evan had already left.

He returned to the Swain Family. The place was in chaos because the steward had been kidnapped. People were gathering their strength, preparing to take action against Evan and Nina.

"That was fast—over a thousand cultivators gathered," Evan muttered as he saw the crowd.

Just then, an elder flew down from a building and asked, "What are you all doing?"

A guard captain stepped forward and explained the situation to the elder. After listening, the elder said, "This is nonsense! Disperse—leave it to me."

"Three already. Let's go," Evan said. With a flicker, he moved so fast the Swain Family patriarch couldn't even see it happen. Suddenly, his entire body was immobilized, unable to move at all.

"Let me go!" The patriarch was shocked to find himself completely unable to move.

Just then, the Swain Family guards noticed the commotion and rushed outside. More and more people gathered—over a thousand cultivators now blocked every escape route.

Evan glanced around and said with a faint smile, "Looks like your subordinates care about you."

The patriarch, seeing the crowd, became elated. "Hmph, you can't escape. With so many people here, let's see how you get away!"

Evan sneered, "Is that so?" In a flash, his speed doubled, surpassing the reaction of anyone present.

By the time anyone reacted, Evan had already vanished.

Evan reappeared in the city streets, leaving the Swain patriarch utterly stunned—he realized he'd run into a true powerhouse.

With his mouth sealed, the patriarch couldn't call for help. Passersby watched in astonishment as the Swain Family patriarch was carried off by a stranger.

When Evan entered the shack, the steward and the thug were both shocked to see the patriarch also brought in as a prisoner.

Evan unsealed the patriarch's mouth and smiled, "Patriarch Swain, you should know this kid," he said, pointing at Derek.

Derek had never met the patriarch before. Hearing this, he shouted angrily, "You're a big villain!"

Even Nina was startled by Evan's methods—he'd captured all the key figures in just a few moves.

"Move aside," the patriarch said, unable to move as Derek dragged him away.

"Derek, step aside. Let me ask what's going on," Evan said. Derek obediently moved to the side.

"Speak!" Evan demanded.

"I won't tell you," the patriarch said stubbornly, refusing to give in even in the face of death.

Evan smiled, "Is that so? Looks like you're not afraid of death!" He took out a painting—the Immortal Fire Painting, a soul-destroying artifact.

He held the painting above the steward's head and controlled it as he smiled. "This is the Immortal Fire Painting. Its flames can devour souls. If neither of you talk, you'll get a taste of it."

Everyone was shocked by Evan's words, especially the steward, whose face turned pale. "Don't—don't do this!" he pleaded.

"So, are you going to talk or not?" Evan asked with a faint smile.

"Don't say anything, or you'll never survive in this realm again!" the patriarch threatened.

The steward, who had been about to speak, immediately shut his mouth.

Evan continued, "This realm? If you don't talk now, you'll die. If you do, you might survive." The steward hesitated, clearly wavering.

"Don't say anything!" the patriarch urged, panic rising in his voice.

"Patriarch, I..." the steward faltered, torn between fear and the threat before him.

Evan smiled, "How about this—let you both try it together." With that, he placed the patriarch and steward under the painting.

The crowd saw the painting flash with light. Just like before, flames streamed out, rising from their feet to their heads.

When the flames reached their heads, both men were terrified. They realized Evan wasn't lying—the flames were about to devour their souls.

"I'll talk!" the steward shouted, utterly terrified.
