Your Belly Moved
Mrs. Penny's cheeks flushed as she glanced at Sean Hayes, seeing how tense he looked. She teased with a playful pout, "It's not that painful, you know. Look at you, all worked up!"
Sean Hayes chuckled, "How could I not be nervous? It's my wife and my child! I'm about to be a dad—I have to take good care of both of you."
Simon Yu was sprawled on the floor, completely forgotten by Sean Hayes in the chaos. He had to roll around several times before finally escaping the blankets. He'd planned to give Sean a piece of his mind, but seeing Sean fussing over his wife and child, Simon suddenly remembered what his mentor had said earlier tonight:
Wait until Alexander Hayes has a child before telling him—once someone becomes a parent, they'll think things through more carefully and won't act on impulse.
Back then, Simon Yu—single, childless, and clueless—didn't really get what his mentor meant. But now, watching Sean Hayes being so anxious, Simon was starting to understand.
When a guy’s single, he can be reckless—nothing holding him back, nothing to worry about.
But once he has a family—a wife, then a child—even the most hot-tempered man will think of his loved ones first before acting. No more impulsiveness, just a lot more careful consideration.
Just look at Sean Hayes—his wife says her stomach hurts and he’s instantly a bundle of nerves.
Simon Yu also realized why most covert organizations and assassin groups forbid their members from marrying or having kids.
Once you have someone you love, once you have kids, there are more ties—no way you can throw caution to the wind like a single person. It affects your ability to take risks and get the job done.
Take Sean Hayes and Mrs. Penny for example—both used to be Hayes Family Shadow Guards, but now she's pregnant. If Sully hadn't begged for mercy, they nearly lost their lives over it.
Lost in his own wild thoughts, Simon Yu found his anger fizzled out by about seventy percent. He lowered his head and started checking Mrs. Penny’s pulse.
Sean Hayes hovered nearby, barely daring to breathe. When Simon Yu finished checking the pulse, Sean looked like he was facing a life-or-death battle and hurriedly asked, "Simon, how are my wife and child? Mrs. Penny’s stomach hurts—is it serious? Does she need medicine? If you don’t have any rare herbs, I’ll go get them. If I can’t buy them, just tell me where to find them—I’ll go pick them myself!"
"You silly goose! You blockhead! You’re about to be a dad, and you’re getting sillier by the day!" Mrs. Penny poked Sean Hayes in the forehead with a look of mock annoyance, but her face was full of sweet happiness.
Simon Yu felt like he’d just been force-fed a mouthful of 'dog food' by this lovey-dovey couple. Rolling his eyes, he snapped, "Medicine, my foot! There’s nothing wrong! That stomach pain is just the baby moving—it’s not pain, it’s movement! Sean, I swear, if you bother me over something this tiny again, I’ll poison you myself!"
With that, Simon Yu stomped off, cheeks puffed out in irritation.
Damn it, his hot bath plans were totally ruined!
Sean Hayes, hearing the words 'baby moving,' immediately forgot all about Simon Yu. He pressed his ear to Mrs. Penny’s belly, listening intently for any sound or movement.
Suddenly, he felt a gentle movement under his hand.
Sean Hayes blinked, staring at Mrs. Penny. "Honey, your belly just moved..."
