Ever since her period started, Ivy had been curled up in bed, refusing to get up. Her ugly tail stayed hidden under the quilt the whole time.
"Miss... The husbands say they're inviting you to the main hall for breakfast. They have something to discuss," Lana said, bringing over some clothes.
"What is it? Can't you see I'm in no condition to go?" She'd always mocked their tails for being gross, but now, looking back, their tails were actually really pretty. Even that auntie on the street with her muddy tail looked better—at least it was a whole tail, not weird and defective like hers. So unfair! She hated it!
"I heard the third husband might be going on a long trip," Lana whispered, gossiping about the one thing that might actually excite her.
"What? A long trip?" Sure enough, the moment she heard that, Ivy—who'd been dead to the world in bed—shot right up.
Seeing this, Lana hurriedly added, "That's just what I heard from others, but it sounds like it's true!"
Hearing that, Ivy thought it over. Fine, she'd go check it out herself. Besides, she'd been lying around for two or three days—her butt was sore.
A while later—
Following Lana, Ivy awkwardly twisted her snake tail and slithered step by step toward the main hall. "Ugh, this thing is so uncomfortable," she muttered, glancing down at her misshapen tail covered in a mess of bumps. The more she moved, the more those bumps rubbed and hurt—so annoying.
"Miss, maybe you should just let someone carry you like usual?"
Ivy quickly shook her head. Sure, her weird tail was a hassle, but it wasn't so bad she needed to be carried—she wasn't that spoiled. "Oh, right, Lana, what's this thing you wrapped me in?" She looked down at her lower half, which was covered with a long piece of cloth that nearly reached her knees, though her tail still stuck out!
"Miss, your period usually only lasts three days, so sometime today your legs will probably come back. If you don't cover up, you'll end up totally naked down there," Lana explained, a little embarrassed.
"Huh? That's a thing?" Ivy looked down, quickly checking to make sure the cloth was wrapped tight and secure.
"Just hang in there, Miss. Once your legs are back, you can run around and have fun again!" Lana still saw Ivy as her playful young mistress.
Hearing that, Ivy couldn't help sighing. How was she supposed to know her period was like that cartoon wolf—always promising, "I'll be back!" every time it left.
"Miss," May, who was serving nearby, called out politely when she saw Ivy.
"Where's Steward Liu?" Ivy felt uneasy seeing he wasn't around.
"Miss, I forgot to tell you—Steward Liu left for South City this morning to bid on medicinal herbs. He'll be gone for about three days," Lana reported quickly.
Ivy nodded slightly, then looked over at her four husbands sitting at the table eating breakfast.
"Wife!" Liam Willow called out to her as soon as he saw her.
Seeing that, Ivy could only give an awkward smile and sit down, picking up her bowl and chopsticks to start eating breakfast.
"Wife, I... I have to make a trip to Draken City. The Crown Prince summoned me!" Liam Willow murmured, clearly reluctant to leave.
"Oh, right, I'm heading out too. I've got a big business deal down south that'll take about three months—I'm leaving today," Caleb Miles said, abacus in hand as he munched his breakfast. He couldn't hide his huge grin; clearly, this trip was going to be a goldmine.
"Wow, everyone’s going out, huh? What a coincidence—I’m heading out too! And guess what, my destination is apparently the same place as Adrian Night’s!" Lucian Vane said with a wicked, seductive smile.
Hearing that, Ivy shot to her feet with a 'whoosh,' her face lighting up with a huge smile. She grabbed her bowl in one hand, chopsticks in the other, and banged them together—clack clack—then loudly and excitedly announced, "Good, I approve!"
