A Strange Pulse Diagnosis

"Madam Lou, your complexion looks terrible. Didn't sleep well last night?" Lily Evans went straight for Madam Lou's sore spot as soon as she spoke.

Madam Lou's face grew even uglier. Clenching her fists and grinding her teeth, she wished she could just bite Lily Evans to death.

But Madam Lou only dared to think about it; she wouldn't actually do it.

Now that she had lost Marquis Valor's favor, she was nothing.

But Lily Evans was Alexander Hayes's beloved, and she was pregnant. Anyone who dared touch Lily Evans would have to suffer the consequences.

Even Madam Lou, Lily Evans's mother-in-law in name only, didn't dare provoke her unstoppable daughter-in-law.

Madam Lou could only grit her teeth, staring at Lily Evans, who was clearly asking questions she already knew the answer to.

Lily Evans, looking completely innocent, said, "If Madam Lou can't sleep well at night, maybe she should find a few more beauties for Marquis Valor. With others serving him, Madam Lou could finally get a good night's sleep."

"You..." Madam Lou trembled with rage, watching as Lily Evans swaggered into the courtyard.

Lily Evans ignored Madam Lou trailing behind her and headed straight into the house.

Madam Lou wanted to have a big argument with Marquis Valor, but with Lily Evans present, she didn’t want to lose face in front of her and forced herself to hold back.

Soon, the famous physician Marquis Valor had summoned from the capital arrived. He was an elderly doctor, once served at the Imperial Medical Institute in his youth, now a retired imperial physician renowned for his skills.

Marquis Valor trusted this old physician deeply. Whenever he was seriously ill, he would always seek him out—the two had been friends for decades.

The imperial physician arrived and hurried to check Marquis Valor’s pulse. But the more he examined, the more serious his expression became, making Marquis Valor nervous. He quickly asked, "Old friend, what’s wrong with me?"

"Marquis, you... hmm? It’s just overwork." The imperial physician stroked his beard, glanced at the two beautiful concubines, and seemed to understand something—yet grew more confused. He asked, "Marquis, you’ve recently gained two new concubines, and not long ago you asked me for tonic medicine, saying you wanted to have more children. But your pulse is very peculiar!"

Madam Lou’s heart skipped a beat. She quickly looked away, avoiding Lily Evans’s gaze.

Lily Evans frowned and stepped forward. "May I check Marquis Valor’s pulse as well?" she asked politely.

The imperial physician nodded, giving way. Lily Evans sat down by the bedside and gently took Marquis Valor’s wrist.

After a moment, Lily Evans’s brows furrowed even more. She turned to Marquis Valor and said, "This pulse... it’s very strange. Marquis, have you taken any unusual medicine recently?"

Marquis Valor was stunned. "No, I only take what the doctors prescribe. Why do you ask? Is something wrong with my pulse?"

Lily Evans glanced at the concubine and Madam Lou, then said, "The pulse says a lot. Marquis, you should be careful with what you’re given to eat and drink these days."

The imperial physician’s eyes widened. He looked at Lily Evans in surprise, then nodded in agreement.

Madam Lou’s expression changed, but she quickly composed herself, pretending not to hear.

The two concubines exchanged glances, a hint of unease flashing in their eyes.

Lily Evans quietly observed everyone’s reactions, her mind already piecing together the puzzle behind Marquis Valor’s strange illness.
