Caught in the Act

1/4/2026

Lucian Fox couldn't help but laugh when he heard that. "Miss Zara, you really are forgetful for someone so important."

Zara Yun felt a chill in her heart.

Impossible!

Her disguise had never failed before. How could Lucian Fox have spotted a flaw?

Zara insisted, "You must be mistaken. The second Miss of the Yun Family died months ago."

Lucian Fox's lips curled into a smile, his foul mood vanishing as he suddenly felt playful. "Really? But you look so much like the second Miss of the Yun Family. Isn't that a bit of a coincidence?"

Zara instinctively touched her own face, double-checking her disguise.

No way. She had changed her facial structure and features—Lucian Fox shouldn't be able to see through it.

Where did she slip up?

Lucian Fox chuckled again and reached out to touch Zara's cheek.

Zara was startled and quickly blocked him. "Mr. Fox, isn't this a bit inappropriate?"

"Oh? No more hiding?" Lucian Fox withdrew his hand, returning to his usual mysterious and reserved self.

Zara nearly bit her own tongue in frustration!

How did she fall for that?

Who was Lucian Fox, anyway?

Was he really such a frivolous man?

He only did that to force her to admit the truth!

How infuriating!

She could hold it together around everyone else, but whenever she was with him, she lost all composure.

It was the same with Keith Quinn before, and now with Lucian Fox!

What should she do? Should she admit she was the second Miss of the Yun Family now?

Zara's eyes flickered as she stared at Lucian Fox, refusing to speak.

Lucian Fox didn't press her. He turned to gaze at the moonlight and spoke softly, "For the second Miss of the Yun Family to hide her true nature and feign madness; for a pampered heiress to fake her own death and flee; for a once-beautiful girl to disguise herself as someone so ordinary—clearly, your hardships have been immense."

After saying this, Lucian Fox fell silent again.

Zara remembered how Prince Julian once said that Lucian Fox was a man of few words.

But tonight, he'd spoken so much to her in one go—it was truly rare.

Since he'd already seen through her, there was no point in denying it any further.

Zara replied calmly, "Mr. Fox, you're far too clever. Of course my little tricks couldn't fool you. The second Miss of the Yun Family is dead and buried. The person standing before you now is just Zara Yun, no one else. This is only our second meeting, so please pretend you've never seen me before. I'll take my leave."

Lucian Fox didn't stop Zara, but said mildly, "Did I say I agreed?"

Zara froze, glaring at Lucian Fox with a hint of annoyance. "What more do you want, Lord Lucian?"

Lucian Fox tapped his foot lightly and landed gracefully on the ground, walking ahead without looking back.

Zara wanted to run in the opposite direction, but she knew Lucian Fox hadn't given permission to leave.

If she tried to escape, what if Lucian Fox exposed her secret?

Though annoyed, Zara still followed, silently trailing behind Lucian Fox.

Lucian Fox's figure, bathed in moonlight, was tall and elegant. Even his silhouette was strikingly beautiful.

What a waste—a handsome face, but who knew he'd stoop to taking advantage of her!

Zara grumbled to herself in her heart.

Lucian Fox was quite satisfied with Zara's compliance, leading her onward without a word.

The two walked in silence, neither saying another word.

Zara had no idea where Lucian Fox was taking her, and she didn't dare ask, afraid he'd hand her over if she annoyed him.

She couldn't afford to offend these big shots now.

Fortunately, Lucian Fox hadn’t gone far. After a few turns, they arrived at a gray stone gate.

Lucian Fox raised his hand and knocked on the door—a rhythmic pattern: three long, three short, one long, one short.

Soon, the door swung open.

Inside stood two striking women dressed in men's uniforms. The moment they saw Lucian Fox, they saluted: "Commander Sue White and Deputy Commander Jane White of the Red Scarf Regiment greet you, Master Fox!"

Lucian Fox nodded and strode forward.

Zara Yun hesitated, then followed him inside.

Commander Sue White and Deputy Commander Jane White exchanged a glance at Zara Yun, but didn’t press further. Once Zara was inside and they’d checked to make sure no one was following, they quickly shut the door.

Lucian Fox seemed quite familiar with the place and led Zara Yun swiftly into the house.

Zara Yun noticed that every room was spotless and perfectly organized.

Aside from weapons, it was all weapons—clearly, this wasn’t a place for ordinary living.

Lucian Fox caught the flicker of doubt in Zara Yun’s eyes. He swept his robe aside and sat in a chair, raising his hand: “Miss Yun, please, have a seat!”

“Master Fox, just call me Zara Yun! I’m no longer the Yun Family’s young lady.” Zara Yun gave a self-deprecating smile. “I don’t care about being the Yun Family’s precious daughter anymore.”

Lucian Fox’s lips twitched slightly, then his expression returned to calm.

“Why did you bring me here?” Zara Yun frowned. “I thought you weren’t the type to kick someone when they’re down.”

Lucian Fox leisurely picked up the teacup on the table, gently blew on it, took a sip, and finally spoke: “Now that you’ve left the Yun Family, where are you headed?”

Zara Yun eyed Lucian Fox warily. “Master Fox, that’s my personal business.”

“But do you realize? Even with a fake identity, if the Yun Family isn’t protecting you, surviving in this world won’t be easy.” Lucian Fox rarely spoke much to others, but with Zara Yun, he always had so much to say.

It was as if he had a lifetime’s worth of words for her, all bottled up with nowhere to go. As if, in a previous life, he’d known Zara Yun, but for some reason, never got to tell her what was truly in his heart.
