Delicate Yet Always Pushing Someone to the Front
Who says the Cui Clan's Sixteenth Son is gentle and kind? Who says the young head of the Cui Clan is too mild to command respect from the whole family?
With just a few light words, Holden Cui pushed Third Young Master Cui out to die. There’s nothing remotely kind about that.
Hidden in the shadows, Left Shore felt a chill run through him. He glanced at Holden Cui from afar, then silently left, deciding to keep his distance from Holden in the future.
“Ruthless. Good thing I never crossed him.” Serena Feng hadn’t expected that after all the effort Holden Cui spent to save Third Young Master Cui from her hands, he’d turn around and sacrifice him so easily.
As expected, for the family, the patriarch can sacrifice anything.
“Since the Cui Clan doesn’t care whether he lives or dies, let him shine one last time.” Holden Cui gave me face, so I’ll return the favor to the Cui Clan. “Here in Lyndaria, I’m far weaker than the Princess Royal. If I have someone capable to stand in front of me and take the Princess Royal’s wrath, I couldn’t ask for more.”
Holden Cui’s decisive move to push out Third Young Master Cui is clearly his way of keeping the Cui Clan clean. I’ll do exactly as he wishes: “Since the Ghost Doctor is useless now, let’s hand him over to Third Young Master Cui.”
If they dare plant an unsolvable gu in my brother, then I dare slice the Ghost Doctor into pieces and send them to Ghost Hall, bit by bit—just to show that this is no longer Ghost Hall’s era, and the Nine Provinces Realm won’t tolerate their arrogance.
The Cui Clan wants to wash its hands clean, not become Ghost Hall’s enemy. Left Shore silently glanced at Serena Feng and swallowed his words of caution.
Serena Feng understood Holden Cui’s thinking even better than Left Shore did. She had her own reasons for acting this way. In any case, all Left Shore knew was how to kill—nothing else mattered. He’d just follow Serena Feng’s orders, trusting she wouldn’t harm Feng Jin.
After five days locked up, the Ghost Doctor was dragged out, dazed and lifeless. Five short days had aged him as if he'd suffered five miserable years—he looked utterly drained, his eyes dull and dead like a lifeless fish.
Serena Feng never would have imagined that this rag-like Ghost Doctor once secretly vowed to outdo her in medicine, determined to destroy her reputation as a physician.
The Ghost Doctor was skilled at planting gu, but not at solving them. The gu in Feng Jin had already mutated beyond his understanding, so he couldn’t help Serena Feng—and couldn’t harm Feng Jin any further, either.
Serena Feng didn’t just toss away useless people. In a world where nothing should go to waste, even trash had to be recycled.
Hasn’t the Princess Royal been searching for the Ghost Doctor all this time? Serena would give both the Cui Clan and the Princess Royal a chance—to see who was more capable and could snatch the Ghost Doctor away from the other.
Could you possibly be any worse?
Left Shore silently watched Serena Feng, mourning for Third Young Master Cui and his Princess Royal mother. With a troublemaker like Serena around, no one could hope to stay out of the fray.
“Take him away. Jada Tang and I are moving out this afternoon. The courtyard you used to live in was nice—set up our new place just like that.” Serena Feng grinned as she dumped another task on Left Shore. Still, he was willing; as long as Feng Jin was safe, a little extra work was worth it.
Of course, there were limits to how much he’d put up with. Left Shore didn’t want to be worked to death—he bolted before Serena could think up anything else for him, since he’d barely slept an hour a night for days.
Clearly, Left Shore had been thoroughly worked to the bone by Serena Feng lately.
Left Shore is a genius, but... he’s usually too lazy. Apart from acting as bodyguard for Serena Feng and Feng Jin, he does nothing at all.
Prince Nolan received Serena Feng’s report and a hint of approval flashed in his eyes.
He glanced down at the matter of the Cui Clan and skipped over it without concern. Though he found Third Young Master Cui a pity, that was all.
Third Young Master Cui was a powerful figure. His actions weren’t about personal grudges—they were all for the Cui Clan’s benefit. In terms of ambition, he was even more suited than Holden Cui to be the clan patriarch.
Third Young Master Cui openly cooperated with Ghost Hall, but in truth, he used Ghost Hall’s hand to stir up conflict between the Princess Royal and Prince Derrek, hoping to profit as the fisherman.
Lyndaria isn’t that big—its power is already divided among a few old families. If the Cui Clan wants a prime spot, they’ll have to snatch food from the tiger’s mouth. Small clans aren’t worth their attention; the Princess Royal and Prince Derrek are the best targets.
Third Young Master Cui used Ghost Hall to brutally murder Prince Derrek’s heir and frame the Princess Royal, forcing the two into a deadly fight. With both sides evenly matched, even if neither is destroyed, both will suffer heavy losses. The Cui Clan could then seize their power and enter Lyndaria’s core, possibly even helping Titus.
It was a brilliant, multi-pronged plan. If it succeeded, Lyndaria’s power structure would be completely reshuffled. But...
Serena Feng was Third Young Master Cui’s destined enemy. Such a brilliant scheme, so close to success—only to be ruined at the last moment by Serena.
If he were Third Young Master Cui, he’d be furious enough to kill. The fact that Third Young Master Cui hadn’t lashed out at Serena was already restraint.
"Keep an eye on Third Young Master Cui." When a dog is cornered, it’ll jump the wall—especially someone like Third Young Master Cui, who already has a grudge against Serena Feng.
Prince Nolan flicked his fingers, shredding the paper in his hand to bits. The hidden guards broke out in cold sweat—his flat, emotionless tone sounded like a cold knife to their ears.
The hidden guards knew that the Cui Clan’s distinguished Third Young Master was doomed to a bad end.
Once Serena Feng pried open the Ghost Doctor’s mouth, she immediately moved out of Prince Duan’s Manor. Prince Derrek’s opinion of her rose even higher. When Little Dumpling learned Serena and Feng Jin were leaving, he cried his heart out: "Don’t go! Feng Jin can’t go, Big Doggy can’t go, Sister can’t go…"
Prince Derrek cradled Little Dumpling as the boy sobbed and kicked him: "I’m never speaking to Father again—Father is bad!" he wailed. "I want Sister, I want Feng Jin, I want Big Doggy—not Father."
Serena Feng worried Feng Jin would cry over the separation, so she deliberately left while he was asleep. Otherwise, with two little crybabies together, it would have been too much to handle.
As for the Snow Wolf... it was originally quite sad, but after being called "Big Doggy" over and over by Little Dumpling, it lost its temper. Its ears drooped and it ignored the boy entirely.
Bad kid! How could it possibly be a dog? It was far superior to any big dog.
The Snow Wolf turned away, ignoring Little Dumpling, who kept crying and crying until he was out of breath. Serena Feng couldn’t stand it and finally said, "Little Dumpling, be good. Feng Jin isn’t well—Sister has to take him for treatment. If you miss Feng Jin, your father can bring you to visit him."
"No! We can stay at home too!" Little Dumpling refused to give in, still sniffling after crying himself out.
"Ahem... Little Dumpling, be good. Feng Jin isn’t well—your Sister needs to take him for treatment. Father promises to bring you to see Feng Jin tomorrow." Prince Derrek hurried to comfort his son, eager to win him over. But Little Dumpling wasn’t Feng Jin—he’d been raised with elite training and understood that Serena and Prince Derrek weren’t telling the truth. Still, he knew that, for now, all he could do was cry.
"Sister, when... when Ray grows up, Ray will protect you and Feng Jin." His round, tear-streaked face was so earnest as he spoke these words.
