Chapter 1318

No wonder Agalon said my combat style was flawed—especially when facing opponents stronger than myself, my old methods only grew worse. Just a slight adjustment, combined with the power of the Natural Semi-Plane, and I managed to injure the Bat Alchemical Golem that had been pressing me down, nearly killing me.

The enraged Bat Alchemical Golem went completely berserk. The innate rune on its throat kept glowing, its attacks growing more frenzied and reckless. It no longer cared about hiding its sounds or tracks, illusions flickered everywhere, and countless afterimages of the Bat Alchemical Golem filled the surroundings.

Leon’s expression remained calm. He tapped the Spellbook of Ages again, and a complex spell, crackling with lightning, shot out from the tome.

In an instant, countless bolts of lightning converged, and a massive electromagnetic rail nearly twenty meters long materialized. Leon tossed a specially made shell to the far end of the rail.

Immediately, rings of lightning danced wildly along the rail. The specialized shell accelerated within the electromagnetic track and vanished in a flash.

Less than a second later, eight hundred meters away, a muffled boom exploded in midair. The Bat Alchemical Golem’s form seemed to appear out of nowhere, and the shell fired from the railgun struck its right cheek. The shell shattered, but most of the Bat Alchemical Golem’s head was simply gone...

Instant kill...

In a flash, the Bat Alchemical Golem was slain. Its headless corpse spun through the air, plummeting toward Ironhold like a falling meteor.

Leon flew toward Ironhold, catching the Bat Alchemical Golem’s corpse as it fell, then turned away without a backward glance.

The moment Leon turned away, Ironhold’s defensive systems and weapon arrays sprang to life. Dozens of massive laser cannons and thunderous flames surged toward him like a tidal wave.

But those attacks no longer had any effect on Leon. By the time hordes of Alchemical Golems poured out from Ironhold, Leon had already carried the Bat Alchemical Golem’s corpse back inside Agalon’s concealed barrier. Here, unless an Alchemical Golem King of the Celestial tier appeared at close range, it was impossible for any golem to detect Agalon’s presence.

Agalon wore a faint smile, clearly satisfied with Leon’s battle, though his words said otherwise.

“A Celestial Grade Five Alchemical Golem can only use a limited amount of rule power directly. Even those with innate runes, when it comes to flexibility, are far inferior to human mages.

These golems use rule power in a rigid manner. Although their innate runes make them powerful, the spells they unleash are, strictly speaking, even more potent than those cast by Grade Five Celestial mages.

But the wavelength and manner in which they wield rule power are all fixed. Any Grade Four Celestial mage who truly masters rule power—especially if they comprehend the same rules the golems use—can defeat a Grade Five Alchemical Golem. That’s just the bare minimum.

For you, the rule projection of the Natural Semi-Plane is incredibly comprehensive. At least half of the rule power those Grade Five Alchemical Golems use falls within the rules evolved by the Natural Semi-Plane. You should have been able to take care of that guy easily—it just took you a bit too long..."

Leon listened to Agalon’s guidance, humbly accepting it. This time, Agalon’s critique was spot on. If he’d realized earlier and broken free from his old combat style, he could have finished off that golem in ten minutes, tops.

Even an awakened, intelligent Alchemical Golem is still rigid compared to a true mage. If it had been another Grade Five Celestial mage, the time Leon wasted would have been enough for the opponent to kill him several times over...

Combining the powers of the Arcane Wheel, the Spellbook of Ages, and his magitech armor, the burst of force that Leon unleashed even shocked himself.

The Alchemical Golem's combat style and movement patterns are largely dictated by its control system, making it highly predictable. But by constantly recalibrating and calculating these patterns, I was able to fire the railgun at just the right moment, nailing the golem's head. This realization suddenly made me understand the true purpose of the Mana Harness.

During Northend’s golden age, the Mana Harness was considered the most powerful arcane rune, famed for its unparalleled computational ability. Only now do I truly understand, firsthand, why the Mana Harness is recognized as the strongest.

It boosts spell power, shortens casting time, reduces mana consumption, and speeds up mana recovery...

Almost ninety percent of its features, taken alone, aren’t as impressive as many other arcane runes. Yet the Mana Harness is still universally acknowledged as the strongest rune. In Northend’s prime, talent was cheap—Celestial mages were everywhere, and titled mages were as common as dogs. That’s not even an exaggeration.

Now I finally understand—no matter how much data or how many descriptions I’d read before, nothing compares to experiencing it for myself. Only then can I grasp its true power.

It’s not the strongest spell, nor the fastest casting. But in battle, it’s the rune with the highest efficiency at taking down enemies. When simulating outcomes, as long as you’re strong enough, you can perfectly predict every movement—like knowing in advance what your opponent will do, and simply laying traps along their path...

If you try to go head-to-head and take down a Grade Five Celestial golem—especially one with innate runes and unbelievable speed—forget it. Don’t even think about it...

After this battle, I truly felt a transformation—a real breakthrough. It seemed that only now had I fully completed the process of transcending the ordinary.

I dissected the Bat Alchemical Golem’s corpse, collecting all the parts I could salvage. Many of them could be used to upgrade Puppet, and inside the golem’s body, I found a mass of that black substance—constantly devouring mana, like molten pitch.
