Competing to Show Kindness

1/4/2026

After all the commotion, quite a few people had enjoyed the spectacle that afternoon.

As for the three people at the center of it all—Ethan Yin, Violet Wei, and Jane Zhang—their faces were anything but pleasant.

By dinnertime, the three finally managed not to embarrass themselves any further, sitting properly in their own areas to eat.

Jane Zhang didn’t have the nerve to ask to join them for dinner either.

At lunch, Charles Yin’s attitude had already been made clear.

He only ate with his own family.

Violet Wei was qualified to sit at the table, but Jane Zhang definitely wasn’t!

Violet Wei was the fiancée; Jane Zhang was just someone Ethan Yin used to keep around.

How could they be the same?

At dinner, it wasn’t a group meal anymore—everyone ate separately.

The security guards and assistants all ate their work meals alone at their own posts.

After all, they weren't here to play—they were here to work!

The students from the kindergarten and elementary school all gathered together and ate with Cecilia and her family.

The teachers circled around, serving the children.

You have to realize, each of these students was the child of a high-society family!

As a teacher, your job wasn't just to teach skills—it was also to play the role of a nanny.

Otherwise, how could the kindergarten and elementary teachers' salaries possibly be higher than those of managers outside?

These students were the future pillars of the business world!

Violet Wei also sat quietly beside Ethan Yin, eating her meal with proper manners.

Charles Yin smiled as he watched Nora Yin confidently munching on freshly picked corn from the north.

No one knew why.

The whole family exuded refined elegance, except for Nora Yin, whose boldness was impossible to hide!

Could it be that all of Charles Yin’s domineering spirit had been inherited by Nora?

As the heir, Ethan Yin was the epitome of a gentleman.

He was the definition of quietly restrained power.

So the siblings—one was quietly powerful, the other was all swagger on the surface.

There was truly no one else like them.

As chairwoman, Cecilia Gu’s mere presence at the table was enough to silently command respect from the children.

Even the little troublemaker behaved herself and ate properly in front of Cecilia, not daring to cause a scene.

Whenever Nora tried to reach her little hand out for more meat, Cecilia would shoot her a look and she’d instantly pull her hand back, looking innocent as she explained, “Mommy, Sakura wants some meat!”

Only five-year-old Sakura Mi sat quietly beside her, willingly taking the blame for Nora. “Yes, Madam, Sakura wants some meat.”

Cecilia suppressed a laugh, deliberately putting on a stern face. “Sakura, you’re Nora’s chief assistant. You can’t always cover for her. If anything happens, you have to report to me first, understand?”

“Yes, Madam,” Sakura answered obediently.

Sakura Mi had been strictly trained from the moment she could speak.

The level of discipline was practically on par with a secret agent’s training.

So, even though Sakura was only five, she was far more mature than other girls her age—her mental age was nearly equal to Ethan Yin’s.

Cecilia sighed and used the serving chopsticks to give both Nora and Sakura a piece of meat. “You’re both growing, so eating more meat is good for you, but your diet must be balanced. No picky eating! Especially you, Nora, you’re not allowed to be picky! Your meal plan is carefully designed. If you don’t want to grow up looking like Popeye, you’d better follow it.”

Nora immediately looked at Charles Yin with teary eyes.

Charles received his daughter’s silent plea and was about to speak up for her.

Cecilia shot him a look, and Charles instantly changed his tune. “Nora, your mother’s right. You should listen to her!”

Ethan Yin sat beside them, struggling to hold back his laughter.

Does this scene have to play out every single day?

Mom and Dad, you might not be tired, but it's exhausting for us just watching!

"Oh..." Nora looked aggrieved, lowered her head, and obediently ate her vegetables.

Violet Wei looked at Ethan and Nora with envy, whispering to Ethan, "I wish I had a son and daughter like that too! Life would be truly complete."

Ethan Yin glanced at her with a smile. "That day will come."

A blush of shyness and anticipation instantly appeared on Violet Wei’s face.

As they ate, Cecilia noticed Nora's cheeks were unusually flushed. She couldn't help but reach out to feel Nora's forehead—it was slightly warm.

"What did Nora do this afternoon?" Cecilia turned to ask Nora’s bodyguard.

"Miss spent the whole afternoon running around the mountain with the other kids. She didn’t go to the river," the bodyguard quickly replied.

"What’s wrong?" Charles Yin noticed Cecilia’s worried look and couldn’t help but ask, "Isn't Nora usually quite healthy? Is she okay?"

"I’m not sure. Her forehead feels a bit warm—maybe she’s coming down with something," Cecilia replied.

Cecilia asked Nora again, "Nora, do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"

Nora shook her head at first, then her eyes lit up. "Mommy, if I’m not feeling well, can I have an extra piece of meat?"

"No, you can’t!" Cecilia replied.

"Oh, never mind. I’ll just act normal," Nora sighed. "Having a smart mommy isn’t always good—she interferes with everything I do."

Ethan Yin picked up a piece of special braised bamboo shoots and offered it to Nora. "Here, it’s not meat, but it’s been simmered with minced meat for three hours. The flavor’s soaked in."

"You’re the best, big brother!" Nora grinned at Ethan. "I like you the most!"

Cecilia teased, "Is it whoever gives you meat that you like the most?"

"No way! I love Mommy the most! And Daddy! And Uncle!" Nora said sweetly. "And Sakura, and Aunt Violet!"

Everyone at the table couldn’t help but smile.

After dinner, Cecilia took Nora out for a walk to help digest her food. Seeing that Nora’s temperature hadn’t gone down, she immediately called the doctor to check her over.

The doctor’s examination revealed a thorn stuck in Nora’s calf.

Because it had been there for a while, the area was inflamed and swollen.

Nora’s slight fever was caused by the inflammation.

The doctor quickly treated Nora’s wound, applied medicine, and confirmed that she didn’t need medication—just some rest.

Nora was surprisingly tough.

As the eldest daughter of the Yin family, she behaved herself during the treatment—no crying, no fussing, no complaints—just watched calmly as the doctor tended to her wound.

Cecilia’s heart ached seeing her like that.

The doctor said, "Don’t worry, Madam. Kids get hurt all the time. Miss probably got scratched running through the woods. With so many children, it’s normal not to notice right away."

Cecilia replied, "I understand. I won’t blame anyone."

"I’ve already applied medicine. She just needs to rest tonight and she’ll be fine," the doctor smiled. "Honestly, it’s good for kids to be a little mischievous—the smarter they are, the naughtier they get. Remember how Master used to drive you crazy when he was young?"

Cecilia rubbed her temples, "Exactly! Just when one finally settles down, another starts acting up. It’s exhausting! All right, I’ll keep an eye on Nora’s temperature tonight. Please check the other children too, just in case anyone else is hurt."

The doctor picked up his medicine kit and left.

Cecilia was about to scold Nora, but Nora made a funny face to cheer her up. "Mommy, it doesn’t hurt at all! Please don’t be mad, okay? I want to be strong so I can protect you!"

Cecilia deliberately put on a stern face. "Mommy doesn’t need Nora to protect her!"

Nora held her head high and replied, "Hmph, Mommy’s lying! When I grow up, you’ll get old, and then you’ll need my protection for sure!"

Just then, someone knocked on the door. Xiao Wang went to open it and saw Violet Wei standing outside, smiling. "Miss Wei, do you need something?"

Violet Wei didn’t come in. She said to Xiao Wang, "I heard Nora got hurt. I brought some ointment that’s great for bruises and swelling. If you need it, feel free to use it."

Xiao Wang took it and replied, "The doctor already treated her, so she should be fine. But thank you for bringing it over."

Violet Wei smiled and shook her head. "I won’t go in and disturb them. Goodbye!"

"Goodbye," Xiao Wang nodded and saw Violet Wei off.

Before Xiao Wang could return, a voice called out from behind, "Miss Wang, please wait."

Xiao Wang turned and saw Jane Zhang holding a box of pastries.

"Miss Zhang?" Xiao Wang was slightly surprised. When she saw the pastries in Jane’s hands, she understood. "Is there something you need?"

Jane Zhang stepped forward and handed the pastries to Xiao Wang. "I just made these myself. I heard Miss Yin was hurt, so I brought some sweets to cheer her up. Please don’t mind. I’ve already tasted them—they’re perfectly safe."

Xiao Wang accepted them with a smile. "Thank you. I’ll let Madam know."

"Then I’ll take my leave," Jane Zhang didn’t dare linger around Cecilia like she did with Ethan Yin, so she quickly left after delivering the treats.

Xiao Wang brought the ointment and pastries back to the room, set them in front of Cecilia, and described what had just happened.

Cecilia smiled. "So now she’s targeting me? There’s really no need. As for the food, you can eat it yourself. Nora doesn’t eat anything from outside."

Xiao Wang opened the box, tasted a piece, and nodded. "Madam, it’s actually quite good. Looks like Jane Zhang really knows her way around the kitchen."

Cecilia smiled. "She’s been after Ethan for a long time. It’s only natural she’d learn a few extra skills to reach her goal."

Xiao Wang nodded. "By the way, Madam, why did you let Jane Zhang come along? Isn’t she just here to stir things up?"
