Shut Out at the Gate

The only response he got was two eggs flying his way.

Seeing the eggs hurtling toward his face, Barry Zhu—the fat Inner Sect disciple—showed a hint of disdain in his eyes. Getting hit on the forehead earlier was just carelessness; now that he was on guard, there was no way he’d get hit again.

He shot out his right hand like lightning, reaching to grab both eggs.

But just as his palm was about to touch the eggs, the two slow-moving eggs swerved left and right, dodging his hand and suddenly accelerating...

"Smack! Smack!"

Both eggs exploded on Barry Zhu’s face again. Seeing his miserable state, the Outer Sect disciples burst out laughing.

Meanwhile, dozens of Outer Sect disciples rushed forward, fists and kicks flying at Barry Zhu.

As the saying goes, 'many ants can bite an elephant to death.' Besides, all these Outer Sect disciples were Ian Song’s followers, personally coached by him; every one of them had reached Qi-Refining tier five.

For a moment, facing the onslaught from dozens of Outer Sect disciples, Barry Zhu didn’t even have a chance to fight back—he was knocked to the ground instantly.

"Stop right there!"

Suddenly, a thunderous shout rang out—it was one of the Outer Sect elders who had been watching the fight.

The crowd beating Barry Zhu quickly stopped and backed away. As for Barry Zhu himself, his face was swollen and bruised, his clothes torn, and footprints covered his body—he looked even rounder than before.

"What happened here?"

Simon Han, the Outer Sect elder, asked coldly.

"Reporting to Elder Han: This guy relied on his Inner Sect status to injure Brother Lin and then started insulting us Outer Sect disciples. Everyone lost their temper and attacked him! Elder Han, please uphold justice for us Outer Sect disciples—this guy is way out of line!"

Ian Song stepped forward, looking utterly aggrieved.

"Do you have any proof?" Elder Han’s face grew even colder.

"Bring Brother Lin over!"

At Ian Song’s signal, two people quickly helped Evan Lin over, his mouth still stained with blood.

"Elder Han, look—this is Brother Lin, the one he injured. We Outer Sect disciples may have lower status than Inner Sect disciples, but that doesn’t mean we can be beaten or killed at will!" Ian Song’s expression grew even more sorrowful, as if he’d suffered some great injustice.

Elder Han blurred forward, grabbing Lin Yue’s wrist to check his injuries. Sure enough, he found Lin Yue was badly hurt—even his internal organs had been shaken.

Immediately, his eyes grew sharper, and he now believed about seventy or eighty percent of Leon Huang's words. With a cold expression, he glared at the fat Inner Sect disciple struggling to his feet and barked, "Do you have anything else to say?"

"He... he’s lying! He attacked me first, I was just defending myself!" Barry Zhu stammered, his face showing a hint of panic.

This fat Inner Sect disciple was named Barry Zhu. His cultivation was only at the seventh layer of Qi-Refining, but thanks to his wealthy family, he had given plenty of gifts and was taken in as an errand-runner by top Inner Sect disciple Frank Feng.

"So you attacked him first?"

Elder Han turned to ask Lin Yue.

Leon Huang quickly spoke up, "Elder Han, please judge fairly. Here’s what happened: I was watching Brother Lin’s match when this fat senior suddenly ran over and said some Inner Sect Senior Brother Feng wanted to see me, and tried to make me go with him.

But I don’t even know who this Senior Brother Feng is, so of course I refused to go.

That made the fat senior angry, and he started threatening me. Still, I wouldn’t agree, so he tried to grab me by force. At that moment, Brother Lin saw what was happening. He and I have always been close, so out of concern he jumped down to help, even ignoring his own match. But the fat senior struck hard and seriously injured Brother Lin. That’s what finally enraged everyone and made them rush to attack him!

That’s how it went, Elder Han. Please stand up for me and Brother Lin. And everyone saw what happened!

Elder Han’s expression grew even darker. He fixed Barry Zhu with a cold glare. "Anything else to say?"

Barry Zhu wanted to argue, but ninety percent of what Leon Huang had said was true, and he really didn’t know how to defend himself.

Seeing this, Elder Han’s expression grew even colder. He snorted, "Hmph. Enforcement disciples, seize him!"

At once, two black-clad enforcement disciples arrived and grabbed Barry Zhu, one on each side.

"Enough. This matter is settled. Continue the tournament!"

Elder Han said this blandly and was about to leave, but after two steps he suddenly paused.

Elder Han paused after a few steps, then tossed a jade bottle to Leon Huang. "There are two healing pills inside. Give them to him."

"Thank you, Elder Han! I’ll see Elder Han off!" Leon Huang said quickly, bowing respectfully.

After this little episode, the tournament continued. However, because of his injuries, Lin Yue couldn’t keep competing, which was a bit of a shame.
