May Parker spat out a vicious curse at Lily Evans’s future child, feeling much better afterward. Only then did she realize the villagers were eyeing her strangely.
Actually, you couldn’t really blame May Parker for being clueless. She’d never taken a good look at Lucky’s face.
Although May Parker and Lucky had run into each other by the river before, Lily Evans had kicked her into the water and tripped her so badly she looked ridiculous.
At the time, May Parker was a mess, too busy cursing Lily Evans to bother looking at Lucky closely.
So in May Parker’s mind, Lucky was just some dumb, ugly guy—probably short, hunched, and bow-legged to boot.
Every day, when May Parker heard the villagers gossip about how much Lucky adored his wife, she’d mentally make him even uglier, just to make herself feel better.
Who cared about some ugly fool? May Parker certainly didn’t!
“Hmph! Letting you back into the Evans Family was me being generous. You really don’t know what’s good for you!” May Parker huffed, wringing her handkerchief as she stormed off toward home.
Susan Evans deliberately chimed in, “Well, I doubt any big household would let a blind girl be their young mistress. Sis, you’d better take your daughter to get her eyes checked.”
Helen Parker shot Susan Evans a fierce glare, torn between chasing after May Parker and not wanting to leave all this food behind—she still planned to take some of that meat home for Arthur Evans.
