Sheng Family Banquet

Evan Lin saw Lucy Lu and was slightly startled. He nodded, "We meet again."

"If it hadn't been for that prescription you wrote last time, I wouldn't have known what to do." Seeing Evan, Lucy naturally remembered the scene when Haiyang Sheng drank the first bowl of herbal medicine.

After drinking the first bowl, Haiyang Sheng nearly died. Then Yvonne Yun told Lucy to bring over the medicine made from Evan's prescription, and after Sheng drank it, his condition finally improved and he eventually recovered completely.

Later, Lucy thought about contacting Evan, but realized she didn't have his number. She was annoyed for a long time, and never expected to run into him here.

"It was nothing." Evan nodded slightly.

Lynn Chen, standing nearby, was a bit confused. "Prescription? What prescription?"

Lynn asked, wanting an answer from Evan, but he just glanced at her and said nothing.

Lucy looked at Lynn at that moment, her eyes lighting up. "Is she your girlfriend? She's really pretty."

"I'm not his girlfriend!" Lynn blurted out instinctively, ignoring the prescription talk and glaring at Evan. "Someone like him couldn't possibly have a girlfriend."

After speaking, Lynn tossed her head, pouted, and walked over to the dining table.

"Uh, did I say something wrong?" Lucy asked, a little embarrassed.

Maybe Evan was trying to get close to her, and I barged in like a giant third wheel—scared her off instantly.

"No, she's probably just feeling insecure."

"Insecure?" Lucy blinked, then got it. Her cheeks flushed as she remembered Evan holding her hand in the office—her ears turned red too.

"Hey, everyone's here!"

From upstairs, Haiyang Sheng came down the stairs, dressed in loose clothes.

His wife, Susan Pang, walked beside him, and behind her was a girl.

The girl was pretty, but shy—she hid behind Susan. Back at the hospital, she quietly stayed with Susan and never said a word.

"Manager Sheng, you look almost fully recovered."

Seeing Haiyang Sheng come down, Dean Victor Lu jumped up, grinning.

Haiyang Sheng nodded slightly. "Not totally, but pretty much. I just feel a bit weak—otherwise, I'm good."

"It's all thanks to your hospital, Dean Lu." Haiyang Sheng nodded toward Dean Victor Lu, who was sitting nearby.

Dean Victor Lu, a man in his fifties, sighed, "Manager Sheng, don't say that. Our hospital didn't do enough. It's really thanks to Doctor Wu the Miracle Healer. Otherwise, we might've delayed your treatment."

Dean Lu looked guilty, and Yvonne Yun sighed softly beside him.

"Don't say that. If it weren't for you and the doctors at Brightsea City General, I might not have made it till Doctor Wu arrived." Haiyang Sheng laughed as he came downstairs, looking around. "Is Neil Ping and Doctor Wu not here yet?"

"They should be here soon. I just called Manager Ping—a few more minutes." Henry Shen answered respectfully. Haiyang Sheng nodded, smiling, "When they get here, I really have to thank them."

Charles Chen sat at the table, listening, feeling bitter. Sheng used to be his supporter, but now it looked like he was being left out in the cold.

That was a bad sign.

Sharon Lu wanted to say something, but Charles stopped her with a look. Now, saying anything would just make things worse—and Charles didn't even know what to say.

Just then, footsteps sounded outside the door.

Neil Ping, round as ever, pushed open the door. Doctor Wu, looking every bit the immortal master, followed. Beside them was a boy in a sharp black suit.

The boy looked about Lynn Chen's age—seventeen or eighteen, but much skinnier than Neil Ping.

The boy grinned at Haiyang Sheng. "Hi, Uncle Sheng."

"Oh, Ryan! Long time no see—you've gotten so tall." Haiyang Sheng nodded at the boy.

Ryan Ping, Neil Ping's son, had a gloomy look and an aquiline nose. Young as he was, he gave off a seriously creepy vibe.

"After dinner, Ryan, you and Claire go hang out. It's been ages since you two met." Haiyang Sheng smiled.

Ryan's gaze landed on the shy girl hiding behind Susan Pang. Claire was pretty, half her face hidden, her eyes nervous as she peeked at Ryan.

A flash of joy crossed Ryan's eyes, and he nodded eagerly.

Claire Sheng, Haiyang Sheng's daughter, was usually spoiled by her dad. Neil Ping had suggested before that Ryan spend more time with her, but Haiyang Sheng had always politely refused.

Now that Haiyang Sheng said it, the message couldn't be clearer.

Sharon Lu looked worried, glancing at Charles Chen, who'd been quietly ignored the whole time.

Alright, everyone, take a seat!

The food was already on the table.

Haiyang Sheng called everyone over. There were a lot of people, but the big table kept things comfortable.

Evan Lin and Lucy Lu joined the group, picking seats.

Lucy sat right next to Evan, determined not to let him escape this time. Yvonne Yun and Dean Victor Lu were both a little surprised.

Lucy was famous for avoiding boys—yet here she was, sitting right next to this unfamiliar guy.

Thanks for coming, everyone, you're giving me face. I was going to book a private room, but decided to bring the chef home instead.

Let me start with a toast—cheers! Haiyang Sheng stood up, raised his glass, and downed it.

Everyone quickly stood up, grabbed their glasses, and drank.

Ryan Ping raised his glass and drained it, his face flushing as he stared intently at Claire Sheng.

Evan Lin was starving—he didn't bother with manners and went straight for the meat.

"Is this the kid who came with Manager Chen?" Neil Ping asked, not even setting his glass down, staring at Evan as he ate.

Evan looked up, calm, and frowned.

Charles Chen and Sharon Lu glanced at Evan. During the toast, everyone drank—even Lynn Chen took a sip.

Only Evan just grabbed some meat and started eating.

Looks like Neil Ping is about to make a scene.

Charles Chen felt a chill—instantly regretting bringing Evan.
