Inside the Wood Immortal Hall

2/27/2026

But just as Cloudwind Wood began sealing his body, the insects broke through the barrier at his mouth—not just one, but a swarm. If it were only a single insect, he could have handled it easily, but dozens rushed in together, instantly forcing the opening apart.

The insects rampaged inside him, relentlessly injecting toxins and destroying his internal tissues. In the end, he spat out fresh blood and collapsed. As he fell, Melody Wood was shocked—at that moment, Cloudwind Wood's soul hurriedly escaped from his body before losing consciousness.

Evan Yang, watching from nearby, couldn't help but admire Cloudwind Wood's decisiveness—even at the last moment, he had a backup plan. His soul floated out, extremely weak, and he looked at Melody Wood and said, "Quick, carry my body to the Wood Immortal Hall."

"Father, you—" Melody Wood was startled to see her father's soul leave his body.

"Hurry, don't waste words. If you delay, my body's finished," Cloudwind Wood urged.

Melody Wood nodded, covered her face, and started carrying his body toward the Wood Immortal Hall. Evan Yang knew the Wood Immortal Hall was definitely no ordinary place—he couldn’t let Melody go there, but he didn’t want to hurt her either. So, he used a mind-affecting insect to sting her neck while she was off guard, causing her to faint.

But Melody's coma was different from the others—she would wake up on her own. Without Evan Yang's help, the others would never recover.

Seeing Melody collapse, Cloudwind Wood's soul panicked—he hadn’t expected more insects outside. Furious, he rushed toward the Wood Immortal Hall, but just then a gust of wind swept away his soul, leaving him with no idea what was happening.

When Cloudwind Wood regained awareness, he found himself in another space. Startled, he demanded, "Who are you?"

"Hello there," Evan Yang said with a smile, appearing in front of him.

"It's you?" Seeing Evan Yang appear before him, Cloudwind Wood was shocked. By now, he realized Evan Yang was no ordinary person—and those insects were even more terrifying.

"That's right, it's me. Surprised?" Evan Yang smiled.

"Why do this? Aren't you afraid of the Wood Family's revenge?" Cloudwind Wood said angrily.

"Tell me your name first. Otherwise, I'd have caught you without even knowing your name—that would be rude," Evan Yang smiled.

"My name is Cloudwind Wood," the man snorted coldly.

"Cloudwind Wood—a good name, but your heart is too cruel. You even scarred your own daughter's face." Evan Yang thought of those scars and almost wanted to destroy Cloudwind Wood's soul, but he calmed down and decided to keep it sealed.

"Hmph, my family affairs are none of your business," Cloudwind Wood replied.

"None of my business? Then why did you try to poison me today?" Evan Yang asked with a smile.

"You already know? Did she tell you?" Cloudwind Wood asked in surprise.

"She didn't tell me. I just guessed," Evan Yang smiled.

Cloudwind Wood stared at Evan Yang and demanded, "Which dynasty are you from? Who sent you here? Damn it, to send someone so ruthless."

"Dynasty?" Evan Yang paused, suddenly recalling what Melody Wood had said: the dynasties often fight each other, and if given the chance, they'd wipe out rival powers. The subordinate clans and sects would then attach themselves to the victor, and with that, the resources would multiply.

"After all you've done to me, don't tell me you don't even have the guts to speak?" Cloudwind Wood asked.

"Well, I don't really know how to answer that. Anyway, for now, you can just stay here." Evan Yang smiled, then sealed him away. Cloudwind Wood cursed Evan Yang furiously, but there was nothing he could do—his soul and body were separated, and he had no idea what was happening to his body.

Evan Yang returned to reality and looked at the two bodies—one had its soul separated from the body, the other was merely unconscious and would recover soon.

"Miss Wood, I'm sorry, but for your safety, I had to act. Now, let me help you clean up the mess." Evan Yang said, then began tidying up the attic—making it look as if a struggle had occurred, releasing a few insects as cover, and setting up a small explosive device.

So Evan Yang left traces of chaos around the pavilion and released some insects, then set up an explosive device there.

After Evan Yang left, he detonated the device. Boom—a thunderous explosion echoed through the area. The Wood Estate's guards and all the nearby experts heard it and instantly swarmed to the scene.

Originally, they were about to tease Lynn Lin, but the sudden noise shocked them. Without a moment to spare, they rushed toward the lakeside pavilion.

When Prince Adrian Wood arrived, he was stunned. He saw the crowd battling swarms of bizarre insects, which had already gathered in clusters.

As for Evan Yang, once he saw the timing was right, he slipped away. After the experts drove off the insects, they found Cloudwind Wood and Melody Wood inside the room. Prince Adrian Wood rushed in, picked up his father, and shouted, "Dad, what's wrong?"

No matter how he called out, Cloudwind Wood didn't wake up. Everyone was shocked. At that moment, two middle-aged men walked in.

One of them asked, "Big brother, what's wrong with second brother?"

Seeing the two, Prince Adrian Wood set his father down and said, "Uncle, third uncle, you have to save my dad!"

"Don't worry. Since this happened in our territory, we'll definitely save your father. I'll take him to see your grandfather now. Third brother, take some people and check the surroundings—find out what caused all this," the older uncle said.

"Yes, big brother," the younger middle-aged man replied. Then the older uncle told Prince Adrian Wood, "Have people carry your father and your sister to the Wood Immortal Hall."

Prince Adrian Wood nodded quickly and ordered people to carry both of them off to the Wood Immortal Hall.

Nothing this bizarre had ever happened inside the Wood Estate before, so as soon as word spread, rumors started that some rival dynasty was targeting the Wood Family.

Meanwhile, Evan Yang was in the garden, using his divine sense to monitor the lakeside scene. He muttered to himself, "So there's an older and a younger brother. The master of the Wood Immortal Hall must be the real head of the Wood Estate—could it be that God?"

Thinking there might be a God in the Wood Immortal Hall, Evan Yang started to worry. If he was discovered, his insects would be useless against a God. Even powerful Immortal Sovereigns would be immune. He'd have to come up with another plan if things went south.

Inside the Mu Immortal Hall, which was usually quiet, a crowd had gathered. They stared at the two people on the floor. The person called Clan Chief checked them, frowned, and said, "What happened here?"

Seeing the Clan Chief's expression change, Prince Mu and the others realized something was wrong. Prince Mu hurriedly said, "Grandfather, what happened to my father?"

"Call him Clan Chief," his uncle corrected sternly from the side.

Only then did Prince Mu remember the family rules and quickly said, "Clan Chief, what happened to my grandfather?"

"Your father's soul and body have separated, and his body is heavily poisoned. Unless his soul returns soon, his body will be ruined," the Clan Chief said.

Everyone was shocked. The youngest uncle, who was especially close to Mu Yun, asked, "Clan Chief, what about Yun'er?"

"She's lucky—her soul and body are still intact. Even though she's poisoned, it's mild. She'll recover in a few hours. But Yunfeng, his case is more serious," the Clan Chief said, frowning.

"Clan Chief, what exactly happened? Why did this happen?" Prince Mu's uncle asked angrily.

"I told you two to investigate. How did it go?" the Clan Chief asked.

"No leads," the two replied. The Clan Chief was clearly displeased: "Everyone else is making trouble at our doorstep, and now we don't even know their identities? Useless."

"Clan Chief, what exactly happened? Can I help? Is it related to my father?" Prince Mu asked.

"He's been handling things in Mu City lately, maybe he knows something," Prince Mu's uncle said after thinking for a while.

The Clan Chief looked curiously at Prince Mu and asked, "Anyone suspicious lately? Or have you seen these insects before? Any similar incidents?"

Prince Mu replied, "Yes, before this, two people were bitten by insects. My father and I both suspected someone, so my father went to confront him. But somehow, he ended up at Yun's place instead."

"Looks like we need to wake Yun'er first to find out what happened—and why Yunfeng went to her room," the Clan Chief said.

"Clan Chief, let me do it," Prince Mu's third uncle said.

"Alright," said the Clan Chief.

Prince Mu's third uncle lifted Mu Yun, injected his power, and forced out a bit of the toxin from her body.

Everyone watched as Mu Yun slowly regained consciousness and opened her eyes.

When Mu Yun saw where she was—and the corpse nearby—she was shocked.

"Don't be scared, this is the Mu Immortal Hall," said Prince Mu's third uncle.

"Third uncle," Mu Yun called.

"Yeah, tell us—what happened?" Prince Mu's third uncle asked curiously.

Prince Mu also asked, "What happened to my father? What exactly happened to you both?"

Mu Yun couldn't tell the whole story, just part of it: "Last night, I came back from the lakeside to my room. Suddenly, my father came to see me and lectured me for a while. Then a few insects appeared. My father thought they were ordinary bugs and tried to kill them with his energy, but they all rushed into his mouth. He couldn't resist, so he had me help seal a few spots, then tried to burn the insects with flames. But after I helped, the seals still didn't hold—the insects were just too fierce. In no time, they broke through, and my father fainted. His soul left his body and told me to hurry and bring his body to the Mu Immortal Hall. As I was about to lift him, something bit my neck and I blacked out. I don't remember anything after that."

Everyone listened to Mu Yun's story and finally understood what happened. But they were still curious why Mu Yunfeng suddenly went to scold her today. Although Mu Yun often got lectured, this time seemed way too sudden.
