The Fall of the City

1/18/2026

"Ahhhh!"

The screams of dying soldiers echoed one after another. This wave of self-detonation by the Fire Bombers instantly killed over a thousand border defenders, and more and more Fire Bombers began appearing atop the city walls.

Witnessing this, Deputy General Long Drake felt his heart shatter, yet he was utterly helpless.

In the end, he could only shout, "Retreat! Fall back from the walls!"

"We can't retreat!"

Still locked in battle with three Insectoids, General Monsoon Ji suddenly roared, "There are still hundreds of thousands of civilians inside the city. If the soldiers retreat, all those people will become food for the Insect Horde!"

"But General, can you really bear to watch the remaining soldiers throw away their lives here?" Long Drake cried out bitterly, his voice thick with pleading.

Hearing this, a flash of sorrow appeared in Monsoon Ji's eyes, but it was quickly replaced by resolve. He swung his black-and-white spears, smashing two nearby Insectoids away, then shouted, "Generals die a hundred deaths in battle; why should soldiers fear death? From the moment you became a soldier, you should be prepared to die! Warriors, are you willing to fight to the death with me?"

"We are willing to live and die with the General!"

"We are willing to fight to the death with the General!"

"Fight to the death!"

............

At first, the soldiers' voices were scattered, but soon they merged into a flood; every warrior shouted to fight to the death. Their previously low morale surged, and more and more soldiers exploded with power beyond their limits, cutting down Flying Beetles one after another.

"Good! This is what true sons of Borderwatch are made of. I swear again: as long as I, Monsoon Ji, live, the Insect Horde will never set foot past these walls!" Monsoon Ji roared once more, and the Sun-Soul phantom behind him suddenly ignited.

A torrent of vital energy poured into his body, causing his aura to surge explosively.

Seeing this, Deputy General Long Drake's eyes grew wet. The General was burning his Sun-Soul to boost his strength; even if he won, his cultivation would be devastated.

"Kill!"

Since the General was burning his Sun-Soul, there was nothing left to say. Long Drake leaped forward, his saber turning into a sweep of snowy light, clearing most of the Fire Bombers from the ramparts.

"Pfft!"

Up in the sky.

Monsoon Ji endured heavy blows from two Insectoids, then pinned another Insectoid in midair with his black spear.

But this determination did not frighten the remaining two Insectoids; instead, it made them even more ferocious as they attacked him.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The three figures became blurred shadows in the air, moving so fast they were impossible to see with the naked eye.

After half a quarter of an hour.

Two blurry shadows suddenly exploded, and the remaining shadow revealed Monsoon Ji’s figure. He was in a terrible state: covered in blood, his left arm severed at the shoulder, his once-handsome face now marked with savage wounds, and one eye socket empty.

Meanwhile, the Sun-Soul phantom behind him was now extremely faint, as if it could shatter at any moment.

General!

Seeing this, Deputy General Long Drake nearly burst into tears.

Monsoon Ji glanced at the fewer than two thousand soldiers left on the walls, took a deep breath, and said, "Long Drake, listen to my command. Lead the remaining warriors in retreat!"

The next moment, Monsoon Ji suddenly charged up to the battlements. In a brief, frenzied slaughter, he cleared the city walls of insects, but the Sun-Soul phantom behind him grew even fainter.

Then, Monsoon Ji leapt into the dense swarm of insects below the city walls.

Boom!

A deafening explosion erupted, and a wave of annihilating light swept out, engulfing at least fifty million insects. Then, a giant mushroom cloud shot into the sky…

General!

Long Drake cried out in grief, wiped away his tears, and shouted, "All soldiers, listen up! Retreat!"

Deputy General Long, we won’t retreat! We want to fight the Insect Horde to the death!

Covered in blood and wearing battered armor, Ray Chu shouted.

Retreat! This is the chance the General bought for us with his life. Don’t let him down!" Long Drake shouted hoarsely.

The remaining soldiers fell silent, many quietly shedding tears.
