The Cold Corpse

Luantian Xuekui intended to kill Luo Yu outright. However, at that moment, Luo Yichen intervened. Deep down, Luo Yu despised these revenants—he only wanted to follow the Immortality Society's plan and ignite conflict between the revenants and the Arcane world.

Luo Yu couldn't understand why Luo Yichen stopped Luantian Xuekui. He knew he was no match for this revenant—its strength was far beyond his imagination. Ever since he had come into contact with such power, he was painfully aware of his own limits.

Yet Luo Yu still couldn't figure out what Luo Yichen wanted. Trapped in the Nether Syndicate, he could only wait day after day. The waiting was endless and torturous—almost a month had passed, and Luo Yu still hadn't seen Luo Yichen. He didn’t know what the revenants would do to him.

Within the Nether Syndicate, Luo Yu saw countless revenants. He began to patrol and observe seriously, recording everything about this place and storing it within the evil spirit inside him. Although the evil spirit couldn’t leave his body to deliver intelligence, as long as he could escape, it would be enough. Luo Yu only wanted to wipe out everything—both the revenants and the people of the Arcane world.

The hatred and anger in Luo Yu’s heart grew day by day, gnawing away at his soul. He couldn’t wait any longer, but the revenants still refused to let him go.

Luo Yu tried to head up the mountain, but some flying revenants stopped him and said he wasn’t allowed. He had no choice but to keep waiting. In the blink of an eye, half a year passed. Luo Yu had figured out the structure of the revenants, but among the tens of thousands in the Nether Syndicate, he still hadn’t found any trace of his father.

He asked some of the revenants, but none would tell Luo Yu what was going on. At last, Luo Yichen descended from the mountain and told Luo Yu that he could help him sweep the Arcane world clean—but on one condition: Luo Yu must tell them everything he knew about the Immortality Society.

Luo Yu immediately shook his head and told Luo Yichen that a certain spell had been cast on his body, making it impossible for him to reveal any secrets about the Immortality Society.

But Luo Yichen already knew this. He explained to Luo Yu that the Nether Syndicate had been aware of these secretive people for centuries, and had even captured some Immortality Society members for research. So, he was well aware of what kind of spell was binding Luo Yu, preventing him from speaking about the Society.

Luo Yichen led Luo Yu up the mountain, where they met Luantian Xuekui.

Luantian Xuekui told Luo Yu he could break the spell inside his body, but only if Luo Yu revealed everything he knew about the Immortality Society—including the location of their base. Luo Yu simply shook his head, saying he didn’t know. To become a Blue-faced Man, you had to serve the Immortality Society for at least a hundred years before you could even approach the place where the Gold-faced Men gathered.

Yet Luantian Xuekui still unleashed his power, tearing the spell from Luo Yu’s flesh and yanking the Deathbane Shade out of him. With a surge of force, he wrapped the Deathbane Shade in a supernatural shroud, telling Luo Yu it would now be blind to his whereabouts. All Luo Yu had to do was release the Shade after he left.

Luantian Xuekui explained that only after years of dissecting the Immortality Society’s members did they uncover this secret—the Deathbane Shade had to inhabit a member’s body to record information. Once extracted and sealed with the Nether Syndicate’s power, the Shade became inert, unable to transmit anything.

Luantian Xuekui demanded Luo Yu become their spy, even if it took a century, and pinpoint the exact location of the Immortality Society’s base. Luo Yu agreed, a dark satisfaction swelling in his chest. He felt no nostalgia for the Society—only bitter resentment for all they’d done to him.

Luo Yu made up his mind: he’d let all three factions tear each other apart. That was a better revenge than he’d ever imagined. He accepted every demand from the Nether Syndicate. When Luantian Xuekui had finished, Luo Yu left, carrying a small shard of the Scarlet Soulstone.

Luantian Xuekui told Luo Yu that this Scarlet Soulstone would let him contact the Nether Syndicate. All he had to do was find the Immortality Society’s base—and send word.

After leaving the Nether Syndicate, Luo Yu didn’t return to the Immortality Society. Instead, he set out for Zhang Jizheng’s retreat, determined to tell him everything.

A month later, Luo Yu climbed the mountain where Zhang Jizheng lived in seclusion. Zhang Jizheng looked just as he always had—his skin flush with seven shades of red. This time, he didn’t strike out at Luo Yu, but instead prepared a few dishes and opened a bottle of fine wine to welcome him.

Zhang Jizheng confessed that his greatest mistake was ordering the slaughter of the Corpse Handlers. He considered everything he’d done inhuman, unforgivable. After all these years, the memory haunted him, and he apologized to Luo Yu. But Luo Yu just gave a cold, mirthless smile and promised that one day, he’d kill Zhang Jizheng himself.

Zhang Jizheng didn’t know Luo Yu’s current situation, but he began to probe, asking about Luo Yu’s circumstances. After several rounds of wine, Luo Yu finally spoke about all he’d endured over the years, sealing the Deathbane Shade with the Scarlet Soulstone as he did so.
