The Wraithlord

12/15/2025

Blinding golden light surrounded everything, and dazzling brilliance poured down from the long-darkened sky. I quietly watched everything in this small village; everyone knelt on the ground, praying devoutly. The gods finally descended, as if they had thought of some solution.

At this moment, the scene before my eyes froze. I looked at Mother Goddess Nuwa beside me; a trace of doubt flickered in her eyes.

What's wrong, Nuwa?

I asked. Nuwa shook her head.

When you understand the beginning of this world, that is when you must make your choice, Ethan Zhang.

I stared in surprise, not knowing what Nuwa meant, but I felt she was trying to tell me something through these memories.

The gods descended upon the village, transforming into golden spheres of light. Instantly, the land around the village, once withered by ghostly power, began to flourish anew.

The solution was for humans to kill ghosts. It sounded simple, but killing the Wraithlord now was impossible. Tan Tian listened to what the gods said and shook his head.

It's impossible. To kill that ghost, with our current strength, we can't do it. Right now, we have 313 instinct-bearers, and even if we pooled all our power, we couldn't defeat him.

Tan Tian's words chilled everyone's hearts. He knew his own body was close to death; let alone defeating the Wraithlord, a direct confrontation would mean certain doom.

No one noticed at this moment that a special power from the Wraithlord's three children was observing everything before them, transmitting all they saw directly to the Wraithlord.

After some discussion, the gods decided to take Tan Tian to the Shattered Unreal Realm, where they would personally teach him to enhance his powers. Then they locked Tan Tian's time, so he would no longer age or suffer physical anomalies due to time.

The gods' proposed method coincided with Loraine Locke's approach. The Wraithlord's immense power came from being created by Mother Goddess Nuwa, who gave him her blood, and he gradually absorbed everything in this world, resulting in his mutation. To kill the Wraithlord, only someone with the same bloodline could do it.

The gods planned to teach Tan Tian so he could draw even greater power from the Shattered Unreal Realm, then return to this world and defeat the Wraithlord. The price would be everything he had.

Faces filled with sorrow all turned to Tan Tian. He smiled faintly, preparing to accept the gods' plan, to sacrifice everything for greater power, to kill the Wraithlord, and finally resolve the source of this world's collapse.

Do you have any requests? After your sacrifice, we can grant you an equivalent wish.

A majestic voice descended from the sky. Tan Tian looked up, smiling at the golden light all around him, then glanced again at the young generation rising in the village.

If possible, I hope that after my death, you can make this world not only filled with light—shadow is also a part of this world. After long oppression, one day everything will be destroyed again because of hell. If such an order cannot be perfected, humanity cannot go further, especially the ghosts.

Tan Tian bowed his head, as if recalling something. When he was young, he fought ghosts—ghosts who were once people, including his parents, siblings, even his own children. Over the years, he witnessed countless tragic battles between kin, leaving his heart scarred and battered.

If possible, I hope you can let humans and ghosts coexist. In this world, light and shadow both exist, and so should people and ghosts.

Tan Tian hoped his sacrifice would bring about a better era. He understood all too well what it meant to give up everything—his entire existence in this world would be wiped away. Yet he still wished to see this world with his own eyes, for there was so much he had never witnessed.

From the day Tan Tian was born, the sky above was thick with dark clouds. That was why his parents gave him this name. He had never glimpsed the world beyond the cloud cover, and from childhood to adulthood, he often imagined what the world would look like if the clouds dispersed.

"We swear by everything we have. We will fulfill your wish. The promise takes effect from this moment."

With a resounding voice, golden light instantly flooded the entire village. Tan Tian and the gods made their vow—a world where humans and ghosts coexist.

It was just his meaningless fantasy, after all. To this day, that promise has never been realized.

I quietly watched Mother Goddess Nuwa, my mind clear with the memory of this village's name—The Unreal Covenant. I smiled helplessly.

"Coexistence of humans and ghosts! Perhaps that day will never truly come."

Mother Goddess Nuwa turned her head, her gaze growing serious.

"Maybe you have already forgotten, Ethan Zhang. Keep watching—one day, this world will need you to fulfill that covenant."

My eyes widened as the scene shifted once more. Tan Tian was taken away by the gods, and everyone in the village began preparing for battle, training day and night.

As for Luo Shui's other method for dealing with the Ghost Ancestor, it began with the ghosts themselves. They captured some wandering spirits and started to study and analyze everything about ghosts. Humans possess souls, while ghosts have ghost souls. After understanding that the basic composition of humans and ghosts was fundamentally the same, Luo Shui proposed a plan—a relatively safe one, though she didn't state it explicitly. Instead, she intended to wait until Tan Tian returned before revealing it.

Days passed, one after another. No one knew how much longer it would take, but the air was thick with tension. Meanwhile, on the Black Isle, the Ghost Ancestor had long understood everything that was happening.

The Ghost Ancestor, more excited than ever, awaited the day of the decisive battle. He was eager to see how these people intended to kill him.

"Death Curse, you were once an important member of their tribe. So why do you hate humans so much? After you died, you quickly suppressed your primal urge to eat people."

Death Curse gently shook his head.

"I don't think humans deserve to go on living. You could have wiped them out in an instant. Why not just do it now?"

The Ghost Ancestor laughed heartily, shaking his head. He stepped down from a black throne and floated to Death Curse's side.

"I want to see what these worm-like people will do when they attack me. When the time is right, I'll kill my three sons and daughters. As their father, I've been far too lenient with them at their most impressionable age—yet I died. Heh, they shouldn't serve the humans."

Death Curse nodded, then looked over at the Ghost Ancestor.
