Evan Lin!
As soon as Wendy Wen spoke, the crowd froze for a second.
Eric Yu, who had already stepped forward, had his smile instantly stiffen.
"How could it be him? Damn outsider!"
Eric Yu couldn't hold back and snapped loudly.
Since it was so quiet around, his words sounded especially harsh as they reached everyone's ears.
"Why can't it be him?"
Someone in the crowd muttered softly after hearing Eric Yu's words.
"He gets great grades and is kind of a big deal at school. His Hundred-School Joint Exam results are probably insane too. Even if he's a transfer student, he totally deserves to be the student representative."
"Yeah, same here. I used to not like Evan Lin much, but now that I think about it, he’s never actually stirred up any trouble. He’s always super low-key."
The crowd broke into heated discussion.
After everything that’s happened, a lot of students at Capitalview First High have totally changed their impression of Evan Lin.
If this were before, seeing Evan Lin surrounded by pretty girls and now getting the student representative title, most students would definitely be jealous and unconvinced.
But now, when Eric Yu stepped out of line looking so sure he'd get the honor, and then suddenly Evan Lin’s name was announced, plus Eric Yu’s loud outburst about 'outsiders,' a lot of people just felt weirdly uncomfortable inside.
Not all Capitalview First High students are locals. Plenty of top scorers transferred in from other districts after the entrance exams.
Eric Yu’s words pissed everyone off.
His face turned dark, and instead of rallying support, he just triggered waves of scorn from the crowd.
Eric Yu clenched his fists, looking absolutely awful.
Ivy Liang froze for a second, then turned to look at Class 12’s lineup.
It was like all of Class 12 got some silent signal—they instinctively parted to make a path for Evan Lin. Everyone watched quietly as he walked forward from the back row, face calm and indifferent.
"Principal Deng, what's going on here?!"
Director Victor Zhao’s smile vanished, and he shot a fierce glare at Damon Deng beside him.
"I... I have no idea either." Damon Deng gave a bitter smile, glancing at Wendy Wen, who was facing away. He really hadn’t expected Wendy to be gutsy enough to change the student rep’s name on the spot.
But seeing this play out, Damon Deng actually felt a bit relieved inside.
What’s done is done.
Before Director Zhao could even react, Deputy Director Simon Sun had already jumped up and hurried over to Stella Huang and the cameraman. "Stop filming, stop filming! Hold on a sec!"
Deputy Director Simon Sun covered the camera, then stormed onto the stage, eyes cold as he glanced at Evan Lin walking up. He gave a chilly snort, then planted himself in front of Wendy Wen and snapped, "You, little host—did you say the wrong name?"
Deputy Director Sun stared Wendy Wen down, his eyes full of pressure.
"What did I say wrong?" Wendy’s heart was racing, but she forced herself to keep smiling.
"You got the student rep’s name wrong! It’s supposed to be a three-character name, but you only read two. Do it again—announce it properly!"
Deputy Director Sun’s tone turned cold.
Wendy Wen shook her head seriously. "Sorry, I’m the host. I didn’t misread a single word, so I refuse!"
"You—!"
Deputy Director Sun’s face twitched at Wendy’s blunt reply.
Before he could say anything, Director Zhao’s voice rang out from the side.
"Principal Deng, this girl seems pretty stubborn, but the student rep thing isn’t a joke!"
"She actually dared to change the school’s decision on her own. That’s way out of line. How about this—let her go home and reflect for a week. For this rally, you host it yourself."
Director Zhao’s words made the whole student crowd explode.
Damon Deng’s face changed, and Wendy Wen’s heart skipped a beat.
That basically meant a week-long suspension. For Wendy Wen, who’s never gotten in trouble and has always been showered in praise, it was a crushing blow.
Wendy Wen’s eyes suddenly turned red.
"Did you hear that? Please leave the stage now. Don’t disrupt the rally!"
Deputy Director Sun looked at Wendy without a trace of sympathy.
Wendy stayed put, while all kinds of worried and sympathetic eyes stared up from below the stage.
Seeing Wendy wasn’t leaving, Deputy Director Sun reached out and took the mic from her. He turned and announced hoarsely, "Now, I’ll re-announce the next part: student representative’s speech!"
"Student representative: Eric Yu!"
Deputy Director Sun spoke into the mic.
Just as he finished, he saw Evan Lin walking out from Class 12’s lineup.
Evan Lin kept moving forward, not hesitating for a second despite Deputy Director Sun’s words.
"Hey, you there—what’s your name? Get off the stage!"
Deputy Director Sun watched as Evan Lin stepped onto the stage, climbing the steps one by one.
"I’m talking to you! Can’t you hear me? You’re not the student representative, so don’t think you can claim the honor that’s not yours!"
Deputy Director Sun got flustered when Evan ignored him, feeling his authority was being challenged.
All the students at Capitalview First High looked up, their eyes drawn to that lone figure walking steadily forward.
Evan walked through the crowd’s stares, stepped firmly onto the stage, bypassed the spluttering Deputy Director, and stopped in front of Wendy Wen, whose eyes were still red.
That scene made Deputy Director Sun’s face go red, and Director Zhao’s expression turned ice cold.
Byron Yang was tense with worry, Ivy Liang was flustered and opened her mouth to speak but couldn’t get the words out.
On the other side, Ivy Liang’s eyes were complicated as she watched Evan Lin take the stage.
"This student rep title means nothing to me. Why bother?"
Evan Lin sighed, his voice loud and clear, echoing through the crowd.
Wendy Wen bit her lip. "Why not? You deserve it!"
"Hey, I’m talking to you! Didn’t you hear me? You’re not the student rep—you’re in the wrong place! The student rep is Eric Yu!" Deputy Director Sun turned and shouted at Evan.
"Oh? Then ask him—see if he dares to come up here."
Evan Lin’s words carried a hint of mockery, his tone icy.
