You Shouldn't Take Medicine Recklessly
At the Prince of Qin's Manor, Alexander Hayes held the freshly received carrier pigeon message while Sean Hayes stood by, reporting: "Your Highness, Deputy White sent word that after searching Hanford Wharf for several days, there’s still no sign of Gregory Gu Jr. and Princess May. Deputy White suspects they may have taken another route and are likely already in the Kingdom of Chu."
Alexander Hayes listened to Sean Hayes’s report, his brows furrowed in thought.
Alexander Hayes was well aware of Sophie White’s skills—he had personally trained her, and her abilities surpassed even Sean Hayes.
"Where is Deputy White now?" Alexander Hayes asked.
Sean Hayes replied, "Your Highness, Deputy White has already taken an elite squad and infiltrated the Kingdom of Chu, planning to intercept them on their way back to the royal capital."
Alexander Hayes nodded. "Deputy White is the most familiar with the situation in Chu. Let her handle the blockade inside Chu; I hope she won’t disappoint me."
Sean Hayes said, "Your Highness, I’ve long heard of Deputy White’s reputation. She was your personal aide at the frontier, trained by you, and I’m sure she won’t fail in her mission."
"Let’s hope so," Alexander Hayes said, standing with his hands behind his back. He suddenly changed the subject, "Sean, you’re about to be a father, aren’t you?"
Sean Hayes chuckled, scratching his head. "Simon Yu says there are still more than ten days to go."
"Simon Yu, Simon Yu—sounds like you’re quite close. Are you two very familiar?" Alexander Hayes glanced at Sean Hayes.
Sean Hayes chuckled awkwardly. "We’re just... somewhat familiar."
"Hmph, I bet you drag Young Master Lin every day to check Mrs. Penny’s pulse for peace of mind," Alexander Hayes remarked.
Sean Hayes admitted honestly. He thought Alexander Hayes would scold him for being overly cautious, but instead, Alexander said, "It’s good to be careful. When your wife is having a child, a husband should worry more."
Sean Hayes’s mouth dropped open in surprise. Alexander Hayes simply told him to keep investigating, then left to accompany the Princess.
Lily Evans had already awakened and, with Dr. Rowan Lin’s care, was recovering quickly.
But Charles Hayes, born prematurely and having undergone a blood transfusion at birth, was extremely weak. Just a few days old, he suddenly started coughing, which worried Lily Evans terribly. Despite her own frail state after childbirth, she insisted on keeping Charles Hayes in her room to care for him.
When Alexander Hayes entered the room, Lily Evans looked exhausted, dark circles under her eyes, holding the tiny Charles Hayes in her arms. A bowl of medicine sat beside her, and she drank it in one gulp.
"Lily, what medicine are you drinking?" Alexander Hayes frowned, recognizing it wasn’t her usual tonic for calming nerves and strengthening the body.
Lily Evans wiped the medicine from her lips and said, "It’s cough medicine."
"Cough medicine? But you aren’t coughing. Why are you taking it?" Alexander Hayes asked anxiously. "Are you feeling unwell, my dear?"
"It’s not for me, it’s for Charles." Lily Evans cradled her thin, frail son and sighed, "He’s coughing badly. Father says he’s too young, and medicine would harm his body. The only way is for an adult to take the medicine and then nurse him—the medicinal effect will pass into the milk, so when Charles drinks it, it’s as if he’s taking the medicine. It’s the only way that won’t harm his body."
Alexander Hayes grew anxious. "Lily, don’t you know you just suffered massive blood loss and barely escaped death? All medicine has some toxicity, you shouldn’t take Charles’s medicine yourself! Let a healthy wet nurse take it and then feed him. Why must you do it yourself? Are you so devoted to your child that you neglect your own health?"
