Crisis

"Nightstar is a very special place. If you can get in, you might even have a shot at Moonshade in the future."

Leon Lu looked genuinely sincere. "This slot is really valuable, but if you're interested, I can help you fight for it."

His words made the several second-generation heirs behind him all turn to look at Evan Lin.

For a moment, their earlier goodwill toward Evan Lin was mostly because he was Leon Lu's friend, but none of them had seriously thought about befriending him.

After all, they still didn’t know Evan Lin’s background.

But Leon Lu’s words instantly made their gazes turn eager.

If Evan Lin agreed to try for Nightstar, these guys would definitely throw him an olive branch without hesitation.

"Wouldn't that be a bit much?"

Standing there, Gloria Rong listened to Leon Lu’s words and was momentarily stunned.

With her family background, even she would have a hard time finding a way into Nightstar.

The thought that Evan Lin might actually join Nightstar left Gloria Rong feeling strangely unsettled.

"There's nothing to worry about. He really does have what it takes."

Leon Lu shook his head and looked at Evan Lin, his eyes burning with intensity.

"Not interested."

Hearing Evan Lin's rejection, the second-generation heirs looked awkward, suppressing their urge to get to know him. Though it felt odd, they hid their emotions well.

Countless people would fight tooth and nail to join Nightstar, but this kid just turned it down without hesitation.

Is he really clueless, or just pretending?

Gloria Rong glanced at Evan Lin again, wondering if maybe he simply had no idea what Nightstar actually was.

That was entirely possible.

Leon Lu and Evan Lin chatted briefly about their recent lives, while staff at Illustrious Gate Arena were busy handling the emergency. Upstairs, they'd already set up long temporary ladders to help evacuate the crowd.

After leaving Illustrious Gate Arena, Evan Lin didn't share a car with Gloria Rong's group. Leon Lu had wanted to take Evan to the Olympic Center's bar street for some fun, but Evan directly refused.

He hailed a taxi by the roadside and headed to the hotel.

The taxi driver had the radio on, and it happened to be reporting a big explosion near Illustrious Gate Arena. Of course, the news made no mention of the underground casino or fight club.

Clearly, the people behind Illustrious Gate Arena had suppressed the real story.

When Evan Lin arrived at the hotel and walked into the lobby, he saw Lynn Chen sitting on the sofa.

"You're back."

Lynn Chen stood up as soon as she saw Evan Lin, visibly relieved, though her face was still pale.

"She’s been waiting for you quite a while. She tried calling, but you didn’t pick up," Autumn Zheng, who was sitting beside Lynn Chen, said as she also stood up.

After Lynn Chen arrived, Autumn Zheng stayed with her in the lobby. Autumn originally wanted Lynn to wait in her room, but Lynn insisted on staying in the lobby so she could see Evan Lin the moment he returned.

Autumn Zheng told Evan Lin she'd go upstairs first and asked him to come to her room later—she had something important to discuss.

After speaking, Autumn Zheng turned and took the elevator upstairs.

Lynn Chen stood in front of Evan Lin, hesitant and worried. "Are you hurt?" she asked.

Lynn Chen apologized, saying she hadn't thought things through and felt guilty for getting Evan Lin involved in her troubles.

Her face was full of guilt, and her eyes reddened as she spoke. She’d felt uneasy earlier when Gloria Rong forcefully invited Evan Lin to dinner.

Evan Lin reassured Lynn Chen, saying he was fine, but reminded her that he couldn't always show up at the perfect moment to help her. He advised her to avoid such dinners whenever possible, so Auntie Lu wouldn't worry.

Evan Lin shook his head; Lynn Chen nodded.

The two of them stood there, at a loss for words.

Evan Lin felt there wasn’t much more to say, while Lynn Chen wanted to speak but didn’t know how to start.

Lynn Chen said that if there was nothing else, she'd head back first.

"If there's nothing else, I'll go back now." Lynn Chen said, then turned to leave.
