Instinct 9

On the fourth day, just before nightfall, I woke Old Ray. The moment I opened my eyes, I saw the three already sealed in black ice. Even now, I still can't believe how easily the three of them ended up like this.

"The human heart truly is fragile, especially at times like these. After all, those three are only human too."

Old Eccentric said this as he slowly walked over. He looked pale, but something about his demeanor gave me a feeling I couldn't quite describe.

"Heh, Ethan, instead of worrying about me, you should worry about yourself. I may be old, but I've been through more than they have in the human world."

"Everything's ready. What comes next will be extremely difficult."

Oddball Moe said this. I looked over at him—his hand was trembling, already at its limit. I was too. My body was unbearably fatigued, and my mind was on the verge of collapse.

The darkness all around us kept devouring our hope, bit by bit, stripping it from our minds.

"I have a proposal."

Old Ray suddenly stood up. The three of us turned to look at him.

"Go ahead. After all, you're the oldest one here."
