Unappreciated Good Intentions
Princess Jade Hayes (Lily Evans), Lola, and Martin Wu all turned around at once, surprised to see Sean Hayes standing at the door with a dark expression, holding Mrs. Penny in his arms.
Mrs. Penny looked terribly weak, her face pale and drained of energy.
Usually, Mrs. Penny was always so enchanting and radiant, but now, curled up in Sean Hayes's arms, it was the first time anyone had seen her so frail. Everyone was shocked and deeply moved.
"Mrs. Penny, why are you here? Your health..." Princess Jade Hayes (Lily Evans) frowned at Mrs. Penny, then reproached Sean Hayes: "Sean, how could you bring Mrs. Penny here? She's just been injured, she can't be exposed to the wind or leave the house. How could you be so reckless!"
Mrs. Penny gave a soft smile. "Princess Jade Hayes, don't blame Sean. I insisted on coming. Sean didn't want to, but I forced him to bring me. My miscarriage had nothing to do with Lola—it was all my own carelessness."
Hearing Mrs. Penny herself say the miscarriage wasn't Lola's fault, Lola finally breathed a sigh of relief. The worry and guilt she felt for Mrs. Penny instantly faded away.
Princess Jade Hayes (Lily Evans) sighed. She knew Mrs. Penny was always strong-willed—if she had made up her mind, no one could stop her.
Someone like Sean Hayes, who usually listens to his wife in all things, naturally couldn't say no to Mrs. Penny.
After speaking, Mrs. Penny turned her gaze to Lola.
Lola looked back at Mrs. Penny and stood up.
"Lola, are you really going to rush into marriage like this?" Mrs. Penny sighed, her brows furrowing in concern. Though her voice was gentle, every word struck Lola's heart like a hammer.
Lola lowered her head, biting her lip, lost in thought. After a long silence, she finally looked up at Mrs. Penny. "Master Penny, since you don't approve of my marriage, there's nothing more to discuss. I've made up my mind—today I will marry Neil Zhao. Even if you try to stop me, I will still marry him."
"Lola, I'm not trying to ruin or stop your marriage. It's just that the timing isn't right..." Mrs. Penny's face was full of concern, wanting to persuade Lola, but Lola interrupted her.
Lola turned her back, flicking her sleeve. "Master Penny, today is my wedding day. If you're here to bless me, you're welcome. But if you're here to stop me, then I can't welcome you today."
"Lola..." Mrs. Penny's face grew paler. She gently raised her hand, as if wanting to reach out to the stubborn, determined girl before her.
Seeing this, Sean Hayes's already grim face darkened further. He said to Lola, "Lola, your master is only thinking of your well-being. How can you be so ungrateful? Have you forgotten how Mrs. Penny has treated you all these years?"
Lola bit her lip and looked back at Sean Hayes. "Brother Sean, I would never forget Master Penny's kindness. But this is my lifelong decision—I have to make it myself! Today, I must marry Neil Zhao!"
"Lola! You can't get married yet!" Sean Hayes grew anxious. Mrs. Penny had already explained her worries to him—she feared Lola would be rejected on her wedding night and deeply hurt.
Seeing Lola so stubborn and unappreciative, Sean Hayes was beside himself with worry.
After all, she was the little girl he'd personally rescued and cared for as a sister all these years. Sean Hayes couldn't bear the thought of Lola suffering in marriage.
But now, seeing Lola so stubborn and unwilling to listen, he was at a complete loss.
