Refusing to Give Face

1/11/2026

As soon as the call connected, the glamorous woman instantly dropped her previous arrogant attitude and began sobbing into the phone, complaining about how the Special Police had bullied her, how Deputy Minister Gordon Gao had made things difficult for her, and that Ben Ma, the supposed victim, was still locked up and refused release.

Gordon Gao was honestly speechless at this woman's ability to twist the truth!

Bullied her?

Made things difficult for her?

Keeping Ben Ma locked up and refusing to let him out?

Gordon Gao honestly wished he could give this woman a slap right then and there.

After hanging up, the glamorous woman immediately switched back to her arrogant self, looking at Gordon Gao with a proud sneer: "Gao, just you wait. My husband's sister is on her way. When she gets here, you'll be in for it!"

Meanwhile, led by two officers from the First Squad, dozens of auxiliary police arrived outside the gate of the Special Police Base.

The two Special Police officers shouted at the crowd, "All of you, leave immediately! Otherwise, don't blame us for arresting every last one of you!"

This whole group were Ben Ma's hired thugs. They all knew Ben Ma's brother-in-law was the second deputy mayor, so when the Special Police threatened them, the leader just sneered fearlessly, "Who are you trying to scare, little Special Police? We're not leaving. If you've got the guts, arrest us all!"

"Yeah, come arrest us!"

"You're nothing, little Special Police! Even if you had ten times the guts, you wouldn't dare arrest us!"

The others joined in, shouting and jeering loudly.

Normally, the two young Special Police officers would have looked extremely uncomfortable, maybe even a little hesitant.

But not this time.

Both Special Police officers grinned menacingly. One of them shouted to the auxiliary police, "Arrest them all! If anyone resists, hit them!"

The auxiliary police were all native tribesmen. Many of them harbored resentment toward Federation citizens, and in their daily work, city dwellers called them low-class or even outcasts. Now, given the chance to arrest Federation citizens, they pounced like wolves.

Anyone who dared resist was immediately beaten down without mercy by the auxiliary police swinging their batons.

Don't think the auxiliary police are weak—actually, they're stronger than most of the official Special Police. The only reason they can't become full officers is because they're native tribesmen.

Besides, these auxiliary police were handpicked from a huge pool of native men—the weakest among them was still a Sixth-Level Warrior.

In no time, dozens of officers took on more than a hundred people, beating them until they wailed and screamed. In just over ten minutes, every last one was arrested and slapped into alloy handcuffs.

After being blocked at the gate all morning, everyone inside the Special Police Base was itching for action.

Seeing those troublemakers finally arrested—most of them after a good beating—plenty of people applauded. Especially when word got around that the order came straight from the Minister, everyone agreed: the Minister really had guts. If it were anyone else, they’d never dare pull this off.

In the mediation room, the glamorous woman was still facing off with Gordon Gao when suddenly a commotion broke out outside. She instinctively glanced out and saw a huge group of people being escorted in.

Before being sent to the holding cells, everyone had to have their statement taken. This group was being brought in for processing.

One of them happened to spot the glamorous woman in the mediation room and immediately shouted, "Mrs. Ma, save us!"

At that, the glamorous woman’s expression changed dramatically. She pointed at Gordon Gao, demanding, "Gao, what do you mean by this? Why are you arresting them?"

Gordon Gao leaned back in his chair and said calmly, "Mrs. Ma, don't you know that blocking a Federation government office is a crime? Or maybe you just don't know the law at all—are you a legal illiterate?"

Hearing Gordon Gao's taunt, the glamorous woman instantly grew furious, shrieking, "Gao, let them go right now, or you'll regret it!"

Gordon Gao's expression turned cold: "Oh? So Mrs. Ma, are you close with these people, or did you order them to block the government office? Because if that's the case, the Special Police Department will arrest you for incitement and conspiracy!"

"Arrest me? Go ahead, if you've got the guts!"

The glamorous woman shouted disdainfully.

"Someone escort this lady to the interrogation room next door for questioning!" Gordon Gao ordered coolly.

Immediately, two Special Police officers came in, flanking the glamorous woman on either side. "This way, please, ma'am."

"Stay away from my protectee, or I'll have reason to suspect you're a threat to her safety and will take action to stop you!" the burly female bodyguard suddenly declared.

Where did this clown come from?

Everyone was left speechless at the bodyguard's words. Seriously, this was the Special Police Department—wasn't that a bit much?

Still, Gordon Gao spoke up: "Miss Bodyguard, I hope you understand the situation and don't make trouble for no reason!"

"I don't care about any of that. My job is to protect Ms. Yang, period!" the bodyguard retorted stubbornly.

Hearing this, Gordon Gao's face darkened. Some people just don't know when to quit.

"Let me make this clear: if you dare use force here, we'll shoot to kill!"

"Such impressive authority! If I hadn't come to the Special Police Base today, I never would've seen just how powerful Deputy Chief Gao is!"

Just then, a man and a woman entered, followed by two bodyguards of Warrior rank.

The man, just over forty, had an imposing presence, a broad face and big ears—he looked every inch the official. He was Qin Tao, the second Deputy Mayor of Mass City, in charge of economic development and a true power-holder in the city government.

The woman appeared just over thirty, beautiful, with a well-kept figure and a charming aura. She was Qin Tao's wife, Ma Shuangyan—Ma Bing's older sister.

Seeing Qin Tao arrive, Gordon Gao was slightly startled and quickly stood to greet them: "Mayor Qin, Madam Qin, welcome."

"Waaah!"

At that moment, the glamorous woman rushed over, sobbing: "Sis, brother-in-law, thank goodness you're here! If you'd been any later, that Gao guy would've arrested me too! He's so awful—not only is he holding Bingbing, now he's trying to arrest me! You have to stand up for me!"

Hearing her tearful complaint, Ma Shuangyan's face darkened. She tugged on Qin Tao's arm, "Honey!"

Qin Tao nodded at her, then gave Gordon Gao a hard look. "Deputy Chief Gao, is this true?"

Gordon Gao hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "It's true."

"Don't you owe me an explanation?" Qin Tao's expression grew even darker.

"If I remember correctly, Deputy Mayor Qin is in charge of economic development, right? Since when do you have authority over the Special Police Department? Or did you get promoted to First Deputy Mayor, or even Mayor?"

A mocking voice rang out, and Song Yan strode in.

The Deputy Mayor holds a vice-ministerial rank, one level above his own rank of lieutenant colonel.

Still, even with a higher rank, the Deputy Mayor has no authority over him. If he feels generous, he'll call him Mayor Qin; otherwise, it's just Deputy Mayor Qin.
