No Body Left Behind
The day of Sophie White's execution arrived as scheduled, with no delays or changes.
Neither Alexander Hayes nor Lily Evans attended the execution ground that day, but the capital was deserted as countless people flocked to witness the death of the witch who had harmed innocent children.
Fifty-four grieving parents who had lost their children formed the execution squad.
Lily Evans did not know exactly how miserable Sophie White was that day; she only heard later that from the moment Sophie White entered the grounds until she breathed her last, the ordeal lasted a full three days and nights.
Lily Evans didn't need to imagine to know what Sophie White must have gone through during those three days and nights.
All the sorrow and rage of those fifty-four bereaved families was borne by Sophie White.
In the end, when everyone had left the execution ground, there was not even a need to collect Sophie White's body.
Because there was no body left at all...
The notorious child murder case that shook the Jin Dynasty finally came to an end, and Princess Lily Evans, once branded as a witch, was now cleared of all suspicion and became a symbol of justice.
The businesses under Lily Evans's name, once devastated by rumors, were now rapidly recovering.
After seeing Uncle Arthur off, Lily Evans rubbed her forehead and called April in.
In the past six months, April had shot up in height and was now almost as tall as Lily Evans—a bold young woman, through and through.
"Princess, what are your orders?" April stood confidently, flashing a neat row of white teeth. She looked sharp and capable, but compared to White Dew’s cleverness, she had a gentler touch.
"April, get the carriage ready. You're coming with me to Evans Manor," Lily Evans said.
At Evans Manor, Uncle Gregory and his family were all present. When they saw Lily Evans, Uncle Gregory's face was full of worry: "Lily, is there any news about the spices? This pile of spices just sitting here unsold is really not ideal!"
Lily Evans smiled and patted Uncle Gregory’s arm. "Don’t worry, Uncle. I came bearing good news today. Our spice sales are all settled; just get ready to count your silver!"
The whole family broke into smiles. Aunt Summer slapped her thigh and laughed, "I knew our spices would sell! It’s all that White witch’s fault—she tried to frame our Lily and nearly ruined our business. Now that she’s dead and gone, we can get back to work as usual."
Lily Evans grinned, "That’s right, Aunt Summer. Now that the White witch is out of the picture, our business will boom again."
Uncle Gregory’s face lit up. "Lily, you’re really our family’s lucky star!"
Aunt Summer chimed in, "That’s right! With Lily around, we’re not afraid of any more troublemakers."
Lily Evans laughed. "Let’s not jinx it. I’d rather have peace and quiet than another round of drama."
The family burst into laughter, the gloom finally lifting from Evans Manor.
After chatting a while longer, Lily Evans got up to leave, but Uncle Gregory stopped her. "Lily, stay for dinner! Aunt Summer made your favorite dishes."
Lily Evans smiled, "I’ll come back for dinner another day. There’s still a lot to take care of at the Prince of Qin’s Manor."
Aunt Summer sighed, "Our Lily is busier than a spinning top."
Lily Evans waved as she left, her heart feeling lighter than it had in a long time.
With the scandal behind them, peace and laughter returned to Evans Manor at last.
