Winds of War

Gradually, night fell. On the immortal-beast army’s side, the horn sounded—the signal to withdraw troops. For many, this sound was all too familiar, and a wave of relief rose in their hearts.

The immortal-beast army quickly retreated, and the Immortal Realm’s soldiers didn’t try to stop them. At this moment, both sides desperately needed rest—this kind of battle was just too exhausting, and many of the wounded required treatment.

Right then, a young man was weaving tirelessly through the army, stopping briefly before each seriously wounded soldier to administer a pill, then moving on to check the next.

This youth was none other than Gavin Wei, the reincarnation of the ancient Medicine Immortal. Thanks to his miraculous pills, many soldiers were saved, but with so many wounded, treating everyone was impossible—he could only help those he encountered within his reach.

Evan Chu didn’t descend to the battlefield. He was moved by Gavin Wei’s appearance—since ascending to the Immortal Realm, they’d exchanged barely ten sentences, yet Gavin’s actions were truly inspiring and boosted morale. With him among the army, spirits rose significantly.

At the same time, the name Wei the Divine Healer began to spread through the ranks. Everyone learned of his extraordinary medical skill—rumor had it that as long as one’s Immortal Infant was intact, he could bring you back from the brink of death.

After a full day of slaughter, most were already exhausted. Now, they fished out Immortal Stones to rapidly restore their depleted Immortal Spirit Force—every extra shred of life meant a greater chance of survival, because tomorrow would bring another fierce battle.

The Immortal Realm’s army was clearly much weaker than the immortal beasts—no one expected the beast army to have nearly ten thousand Immortal Lord–realm experts, several times more than the Immortal Realm’s own Immortal Lords. The odds of victory were slim, though no one knew this yet. If the soldiers found out, their fighting spirit would surely plummet—this was one of Evan Chu’s greatest worries.

After sending Goldwing back into his body, Evan Chu flashed away into the night sky, instantly turning invisible and infiltrating the immortal-beast army. He needed to scout out the enemy’s situation—if the beasts were this powerful, only extreme measures could quell this war and pave the way for peaceful coexistence between immortals and beasts.

Flying above the beast army, Evan Chu grew more and more shocked—there were actually several Teleportation Gates among their ranks, each guarded by hundreds of beast soldiers, with even the weakest among them at the Immortal Lord Realm.

Seeing those Teleportation Gates, Evan Chu seemed to realize something, but couldn’t make up his mind right away. Before long, he arrived at the core area of the beast army, moving with utmost caution.

Evan Chu clearly remembered that Tiger-Elephant Beasts could once see through his invisibility. Although he didn’t spot any Tiger-Elephant Beasts here, there was no guarantee some other immortal beast couldn’t see him.

On the beast army’s side, there were actually tents—and not just any tents, but massive ones. Evan Chu hadn’t expected immortal beasts to be even more comfortable than humans. The presence of tents meant this was the command center, where the supreme commander discussed military affairs. If he could get inside, he might pick up some crucial information.

The tent’s entrance was open, but dozens of guards stood outside. These immortal beasts had all taken human form and were quite powerful. Evan Chu slipped inside without anyone noticing.

Inside, he saw more than ten late-stage Immortal Emperor–level powerhouses talking, including two women. At the head sat an elderly man with white hair, his expression stern.

“This time, we immortal beasts must conquer the Immortal Realm—no matter the cost. I’ve been preparing for this war for twenty thousand years. Every previous Immortal-Beast War ended in failure and humiliation for us beasts.

This time, we’ll wash away that shame and let those Immortal Realm ants know that immortal beasts are the true rulers. We’ll make them bow beneath our feet and drive them to survive in the bitter-cold lands.” the old man said to the crowd.

“The Supreme Commander has spent twenty thousand years in seclusion—that’s something no ordinary being could do. Now he could ascend to the God Realm at any time. It’s truly worth celebrating. With the Supreme Commander here, the Immortal Realm’s army will definitely be defeated. Soon, we immortal beasts will unify the Immortal Realm for real—just thinking about it makes me excited!” a middle-aged man exclaimed.

“The Immortal Realm’s forces seem pretty weak this time, especially here at Heavenshroud Cliff—they can’t possibly withstand our army. Tomorrow, let all Da Luo Golden Immortal and Ninth-Heaven Arch-Immortal–realm beasts attack. I believe we can crush them without even deploying our Immortal Lord–realm beasts.

Splitting the Immortal Realm’s forces into four fronts was the wisest move—even if they realize our plan, it’ll be too late. The Supreme Commander’s foresight truly commands our respect!” said a flame-robed woman.

“After we conquer the Immortal Realm, our first task is to break open Godfall Valley’s barrier and liberate the immortal beasts imprisoned inside, restoring their freedom. This is the sacred mission every immortal beast shares, and now, at last, it can be fulfilled. I believe everyone will feel proud.” the old man declared.

Hearing this, Evan Chu was startled—the old man’s aura was incredibly strong, unmistakably that of a Dragon Clan powerhouse. Judging by his presence, he’d already surpassed late-stage Immortal Emperor, likely reaching demigod rank or even higher.

As for why he hadn’t ascended to the God Realm, he probably had some special method of suppression—just like the Golden-Winged Roc in Godfall Valley, who possessed an Ascension-Seal Pearl.

“Supreme Commander, last time there were plenty of Immortal Realm experts. I’m worried we might run into tough opponents and unexpected twists—the Immortal Realm folk are cunning beyond belief. We should remain cautious.” another elder advised.

“No need to worry. After tomorrow’s battle, we’ll strike with our full force. I’m confident there’s no one left in the Immortal Realm who can oppose me. When the time comes, I’ll personally cut down every expert, and victory will be ours.” the old man said, brimming with confidence.

Evan Chu realized the rest of their conversation wasn’t very important. Still, he’d gained reliable intel—the beast army’s true main force was concentrated at Heavenshroud Cliff; the other three fronts were just decoys to split the Immortal Realm’s troops.

“You think you can destroy the Immortal Realm? You’re overestimating yourselves. There are plenty of experts here, and tomorrow’s battle will see your beast army routed. Little Gold Dragon, just wait and see!” Leaving the tent, Evan Chu secretly transmitted this message to the beast marshal—his goal was to sow confusion and shake their confidence.

With those words, Evan Chu teleported away from the beast army’s camp and returned to the Immortal Realm’s forces. The beast marshal, startled by Evan’s message, shot out like lightning—but saw no sign of anyone at all…
