Emotional Turmoil
Alexander Hayes and Emperor Jin Xuan remained at the palace until dusk before returning to the Prince of Qin's Manor.
As soon as he arrived home, he rushed to see Lily Evans and the child.
But Lily Evans and the child were both asleep. Alexander Hayes went in, quietly sat with them for a while without saying a word for fear of waking them, and then tiptoed out.
As Alexander Hayes left the room, he ran into Margaret Evans.
Margaret Evans was mainly responsible for caring for Lily Evans during her confinement. Seeing Alexander Hayes, she gestured for him to speak privately.
"Prince, I've noticed you're in low spirits lately. What's wrong?" Margaret Evans asked with concern.
"It's nothing, I'm just worried about Lily's health... Sigh, she's never been so reckless with herself before. I tried to persuade her, but she got angry after a few words, so I dared not continue," Alexander Hayes said, looking troubled.
Margaret Evans sighed, "Prince, women are emotionally unstable after childbirth. When I had Lily, even the smallest things felt overwhelming, and I even had dark thoughts. We both know how difficult Lily's labor was, so she's more anxious about her child than most mothers. As her husband, please be understanding of her feelings. I'll help care for Charles as much as possible. Honestly, I can't bear to see my own daughter suffer like this. But Lily is stubborn and emotionally unstable during her confinement, so we can only comfort her and help with Charles as much as we can."
Alexander Hayes looked apologetic, "Mother, this is my fault too. Lily is in confinement and as her husband, I should be by her side day and night, but I haven't been around enough..."
Margaret Evans sighed, "Good child, you can't blame yourself. The Emperor relies on you, and you have so many responsibilities. You can't do everything alone. Don't worry, I'll take good care of Lily, and your father's medical skills will help too. We won't let anything happen to her. You're a statesman, don't let family matters distract you too much. Remember, without the country, there is no family. If the nation is in chaos, we won't have peace at home."
Alexander Hayes felt comforted by Margaret Evans's words. "Thank you, Mother. I feel much better now."
"Good child, I've had food prepared. Go eat something," Margaret Evans said.
Alexander Hayes nodded and went to the dining hall. After eating, he returned to his study to handle official documents. He was busy until midnight before finally returning to his room to rest.
The next day, Alexander Hayes left early for the palace.
Lily Evans woke up and saw that Charles Hayes was still sleeping soundly. She quietly got up, washed, and went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
Margaret Evans was already busy in the kitchen, preparing ingredients for lunch. When she saw Lily Evans, she smiled and said, "Why are you up so early? Shouldn't you rest more during your confinement?"
Lily Evans smiled, "Mother, I'm already feeling much better. I just want to help out a little."
Margaret Evans shook her head, "Just focus on recovering. Leave the rest to me."
