The flying sword slaughtered enemies at an extreme speed. In just a few breaths, over a hundred Strongarm Bull Devils had their heads lopped off.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!
The flying sword continued its rampage, and in the blink of an eye, dozens more Strongarm Bull Devils were decapitated.
This finally drew the attention of some Strongarm Bull Devil experts.
They swung their weapons at the Bronze Flying Sword, but it was too fast, too small, and unbelievably agile. Plus, it was weaving through a crowd of Bull Devil soldiers, so they simply couldn’t touch it.
Instead, during this time, the sword killed another hundred Bull Devils.
Many soldiers on the city wall saw Ian Song summon the flying sword. As it swept through the Bull Devil ranks, heads rolled one after another, leaving the soldiers stunned and awestruck. Their gazes toward Ian were now full of deep respect.
“What kind of martial technique is that? He can actually kill people from a kilometer away?”
The next moment, Ian Song’s sword seal flipped in his hand. Instantly, the Bronze Flying Sword shot straight toward the rear ranks of the Bull Devils. The experts who had been trying to block it were left helpless—now that the army was charging toward the human city walls, fighting their way upstream was basically impossible.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!
The Bronze Flying Sword continued slaughtering Bull Devils, but their experts were utterly helpless against it.
In just half a quarter-hour, the flying sword had already cut down two thousand ordinary Bull Devil soldiers.
Finally, a commander spotted the flying sword.
He grabbed a massive bow and fired.
Whoosh!
The arrow streaked like a flash of light, heading straight for the Bronze Flying Sword.
Standing on the city wall, Ian Song watched this scene, a trace of disdain curling at his lips. With a thought, the Bronze Flying Sword shrank and hid closely behind a Bull Devil.
Thunk!
The flash of light hit its mark—but unfortunately, that mark was a Bull Devil.
Whoosh!
The Bronze Flying Sword shot out with a swoosh, darting away like lightning. Wherever it passed, dozens more Bull Devils lost their heads.
"Damn it!"
The Bull Devil commander was furious. He snatched up a huge sword and chased after the flying sword.
But he quickly gave up. The flying sword was just too small, able to weave freely through the packed army, while his own massive body slowed him down.
Half an hour later.
Ian Song recalled the Bronze Flying Sword. In that half hour, he’d cut down over ten thousand Bull Devils. If the Ninth Prince hadn’t sent a Martial Saint to block the sword, he could’ve killed even more.
Up on the walls, a torrent of filth poured down and scalded countless Bull Devils, but it still couldn’t stop their mad assault. The several-hundred-meter-thick walls had already been more than halfway breached; at this rate, they’d collapse by tomorrow at the latest.
In the blink of an eye, evening arrived. Normally, the Bull Devils would retreat by now, but today they kept attacking like maniacs.
With a thought, Ian Song teleported to the Commander’s Headquarters.
Battle reports kept pouring in from outside. Commander Raymond Lei was swamped and at his wits’ end.
"Ian, what are you doing here? Did you come up with a way to kill those black-robed Bull Devils?" Raymond Lei asked.
Ian Song shook his head. "I’m not here for that. I’ve been watching the battle on the walls all day. At most, we’ve got a few hours left before the Bull Devils break through. Do you have any solutions, Commander?"
"Solutions? Hell no! All we can do is fight them head-on!"
Raymond Lei snapped, his tone irritable.
"I’ve got a way!"
Ian Song said.
"What way?" Raymond’s eyes lit up and he even jumped out of his chair.
"I can lay down a grand formation behind the wall, but I’ll need high-grade spirit crystals to do it," Ian said slowly. He had plenty of crystals, but he hadn’t forgotten the military’s attempt on his life, so there was no way he’d use his own stash for the array.
He was already doing the military a huge favor by setting up the formation, so they would have to supply the spirit crystals themselves.
"How many spirit crystals do you need?"
"At least three thousand top-grade spirit crystals!"
Ian Song replied.
Raymond Lei was stunned, then said, "Three thousand?! I don’t have anywhere near that many. Five hundred tops!"
Hearing Raymond’s haggling, Ian Song couldn’t help but roll his eyes. "Commander, do you think this is a grocery market? You can’t haggle!"
Raymond looked a bit embarrassed. "That just slipped out. But honestly, I really can’t come up with that many crystals. The most I can gather is a bit over thirteen hundred."
Ian Song responded, "The more spirit crystals, the stronger the array and the more Bull Devils it can block. With thirteen hundred, the formation can hold off two to three hundred thousand Bull Devils at most. If more than that attack, the array might collapse."
"Your formation is really that powerful?" Raymond was skeptical that an array set up with just thirteen hundred top-grade spirit crystals could block two or three hundred thousand Bull Devils.
"Believe it or not, I once trapped and killed three Martial Saints at the same time with a formation," Ian said calmly.
"If that’s true, it would really cut down on casualties for our human soldiers. But I just can’t come up with that many crystals, and even if I asked the military, there’s no time—the Bull Devils are about to break through!" Raymond said helplessly.
Ian hesitated, then said, "I can lend you some."
"Deal! I’ll write you an IOU!" Raymond agreed cheerfully.
A quarter-hour later, under Ian Song’s direction, the soldiers were digging pits at lightning speed.
With so many hands, it took less than half a quarter-hour to dig thirty-five hundred pits. Ian placed a top-grade spirit crystal in each one, then ordered the soldiers to fill them in.
After clearing the soldiers out of the array’s range, Ian personally dug a pit at the center and buried three pieces of god-iron inside.
Boom! Boom!
Deafening crashes echoed out, and with each impact, the city walls shook violently. Using his Clairvoyant Vision, Ian saw that in at most two hours, the walls would be breached.
With a flicker, Ian landed on the roof of a building a hundred meters away.
The formation was ready; all it needed was a single hand seal from him to activate.
Half an hour later.
Raymond Lei arrived in person and asked Ian Song, "Is it done?"
"It’s ready. You can order the soldiers on the wall to retreat!" Ian nodded.
"Good!"
Raymond gave the order for all the soldiers on the wall to pull back. After issuing it, he felt a bit lost and muttered, "Kid, don’t let me down."
"Don’t worry," Ian said.
Ian smiled confidently. To be safe, he’d added three pieces of god-iron. Even if the Bull Devils doubled in number, they’d be trapped and slaughtered in the array.
Soon, all the soldiers had retreated from the wall. Without the human defenders blocking them, the Bull Devils attacked even more ferociously.
Half an hour later, there was a deafening crash—a section of the wall collapsed, opening a gap more than ten meters wide. Instantly, the mighty Bull Devils surged through the breach like a tidal wave, pouring into the city.
