Origin 29

"There's a reaction, haha, just as I expected."

Thousand Hands watched the humanoid mass on the table with excitement. It squirmed, reacting after Rufina Howard's blood was dripped onto it. Three humanoid figures waited nearby, already transformed into the forms of the Heaven, Earth, and Human souls, ready to enter the body at any moment.

Rufina Howard watched in delight.

"It looks perfect. You three are about to become human!"

But just then, the body suddenly stopped moving, fell silent, and reverted to its previous state—a mixture of mud.

"That's not right. This shouldn't be happening, especially after using so much blood."

Thousand Hands immediately raised both hands, and green ghost tendrils pierced into the humanoid body.

"What's going on?"

Wu asked solemnly.

"It's gone. The blood that was just dripped into the body has disappeared. That shouldn't be possible."

Thousand Hands glanced at Rufina Howard, who immediately shrank back.

You've drawn a lot of my blood today. That's enough.

That's all for today. Let's continue the day after tomorrow.

Mason Payne spoke, and Wu's face showed a trace of displeasure. She snorted and left the room.

Thousand Hands stared at the humanoid, puzzled, while the three humanoid figures quietly watched the one lying on the table.

Did any of you feel anything?

Thousand Hands asked, and the three figures shook their heads.

Suddenly, Thousand Hands withdrew all the ghost tendrils, a sly grin on his face. After everyone left, he sat beside the humanoid. Soon, Wu entered again.

It looks like we'll need a lot more blood and repeated experiments. Otherwise, adaptation won't happen.

Wu nodded, then glanced back. Immediately, a green-faced man appeared, half-kneeling on the ground.

Did you hear that? If you did, hurry up and get to work.

Master Wu, there have been a lot of disappearances in the city lately. If we keep...

Didn't you hear me?

Wu glared fiercely at the green-faced man behind her. He quickly got up, intending to leave.

Please wait.

With a swoosh, Zhu Zigui and Cao Wanzhi emerged from the wall.

We're not eavesdropping. Those corpses are hard to deal with, right? Quite a few people died this morning. The thugs who saw you coming and tried something, plus now—I can take care of the bodies.

Zhu Zigui said excitedly, and Wu nodded.

By evening, several black-faced men returned, carrying two large wooden barrels into the room.

Wu pressed a hand to her nose.

It's really smelly, this blood.

Master Wu, to avoid unnecessary trouble, we only targeted people without household registration.

It's good you found some, Master Wu. Special times, haha. I heard someone named Yuan Shikai forced the emperor to abdicate. Looks like chaos is coming. Soon, there'll be as many materials as you need. Please bear with it for now, Master Wu.

When the two large barrels were opened, a strong smell of blood filled the air. The blood looked fresh, though the surface had already begun to scab and clot.

Heh, not bad. Let's give it a try.

Thousand Hands said as he placed the humanoid into one of the large barrels.

Just as I thought.

Thousand Hands burst out laughing. The blood began to decrease bit by bit until the barrel was completely empty, not a drop left.

Haha, it worked! Adaptation should be complete. For humans, blood is indispensable.

Just then, the door was violently pushed open with a bang.

What are you doing?

Mason Payne walked in, while Rufina Howard suddenly covered her mouth and ran out.

Master Payne, haha, it's just an experiment.

Wei Chengwu just found the governor and asked about the recent disappearances. Aren't your actions a bit much? Over a hundred people have disappeared in one day.

Rufina Howard stood in the hallway, her heart pounding. Her face was pale as a gray humanoid approached her.

What's wrong?

Rufina Howard shook her head and gave a bitter smile.

Maybe I've made a terrible decision—joining forces with those villains.

It's alright, young lady, haha. After death, a person is nothing but a pile of rotten mud. Most of those we found came from opium dens—their lives were already over. They'd ruined themselves and dragged their families down with them. If you think of it that way, you won't feel so bad.

Thousand Hands stood behind Rufina Howard with a smile, but Rufina glared coldly at him.

Don't do this again, or I won't work with you anymore.

Alright, alright, don't worry. This blood is more than enough. Now the body has adapted.

Both barrels of blood were completely absorbed by the humanoid. Now it looked glossy and full, no longer like a lifeless sculpture—it had vitality.

On the third day, Thousand Hands drew more blood from Rufina Howard and dripped it onto the body. The reaction started again—the body twitched slightly, then moved more and more.

Thousand Hands hurriedly pierced the body with his ghost tendrils.

The heart just beat once.

Rufina Howard watched in astonishment. Thousand Hands smiled, took a scalpel, and gently cut the body's surface. Instantly, Rufina's face showed shock.

These organs are all mimics, formed from corpse flesh that doesn't decay. I pieced everything together bit by bit.

As soon as Thousand Hands finished speaking, the cut instantly healed.

Thousand Hands, when did you start adding flesh from the blood-sucking zombie?

At that moment, Mason Payne asked, and Thousand Hands burst out laughing.

You saw right through me, Master Payne. Indeed, without blood, it wouldn't work. Absorbing only natural things makes it no better than plants. Blood is essential for humans. But there's a problem—last time, Master Payne, you injured the corpse world's undying zombie. Negotiating with them now is difficult. We now have the ability to absorb nature and blood, but still need a bit more—Yang energy. I hear there's a rare type of zombie that survives by absorbing Yang energy from people, but they're extremely rare—maybe one in a thousand.

I'll go myself.

Mason Payne said, and Wu immediately snorted coldly.

Forget it. Aren't you afraid that once you leave, that twisted doctor will dissect the girl behind you?

Master Wu, how can you say that? I think it's better to let one of the other masters go.

Wu turned around and walked out slowly, then spoke.

Have the driver ready to take me back. This time, let those two unruly ones go instead.

Wang Qi and Mie? Do you want to start a war?

Mason Payne said in surprise.

Only those two idiots are up to the task. But I'll add a safeguard—let Sheng and Ada go with them. Xu Fu once said that in the corpse world, there's a zombie named Tan Tian who survives by absorbing Yang energy.

Then I'll go see Yin Choujian myself. When it comes to blood, no one knows more than him.

Mason Payne spoke, and Wu suddenly stopped in her tracks.

Don't make trouble, Mason Payne. If I were Yin Choujian, I'd have my butler kill you as soon as you arrived.

Mason Payne smiled, placing a hand on Rufina Howard's shoulder, but she immediately pushed him away.

With this girl here, it's fine. If things get serious, dying once is the worst that could happen.

Mason Payne ignored everyone's warnings. After Wei Chengwu prepared the car, he headed to Yin Choujian's place.

Late at night on the mountain, mist swirled. The car stopped at the foot of the hill, and the fog suddenly parted. Rufina Howard was asleep, and Mason Payne got out.
