Earth Soul Zhang Qingyuan 26

To devour these Children of Malice, you must wait until they fully reveal their vicious intent—only then can you strike.

Nowadays, every night Mark Hu thinks about one thing—what he wants to do to those female passengers. In over a decade as a driver, he’s suppressed such impulses like a well-oiled machine. When he can no longer bear it, Mark Hu goes to the red-light districts, finds a woman, and satisfies his urges.

But when I look at Mark Hu now, I can barely see his face—just a mass of darkness, black mist billowing from his entire body. His Deathbane Aura is almost impossible to restrain.

Mark Hu looked impatient, scanning the night club for female passengers. Eventually, he found one to his liking—a woman dressed provocatively in all black, carrying a purse. Mark Hu drove his car over to her.

At this hour, on this road, it was almost 2 a.m. Most taxi drivers wouldn’t come here, so there were few cars. Mark Hu stopped his vehicle.

“Miss, where are you headed?”

The woman seemed dazed, but soon several people rushed out, dragged her back into the club. Mark Hu’s excitement vanished instantly. Annoyed, he lingered outside the club, searching for prey.

Finally, another woman came out—still very drunk, dressed flamboyantly, her pale legs exposed. She got into Mark Hu’s car, gave her address, then collapsed onto the back seat and fell asleep.

All the way, the black mist around Mark Hu grew thicker. I choked back my breath, licking my lips. The moment was nearly ripe—once Mark Hu’s Deathbane Aura erupts, he’ll be enveloped by darkness. That’ll be the perfect time.

The car crawled along the road, barely reaching forty kilometers per hour. Mark Hu kept staring at the rearview mirror, watching, his face slack with lust—even drooling. The black mist around him kept thickening.

I was ready at any moment, waiting to devour Mark Hu.

But in the end, Mark Hu still didn’t have the nerve. When he arrived at the destination, the black mist around him faded. The woman sobered up, paid, and left. Mark Hu’s eyes were full of disappointment—he looked utterly defeated.

The reason is simple: Mark Hu was always plain-looking, even ugly, with a poor family and bad grades. He rarely smiled and had no friends. Even after several blind dates, no woman wanted to be close to him.

His twisted thoughts began when he first started driving taxis. He saw a drunk woman act wanton in his car. After dropping her home, Mark Hu made his first move—but he lacked the courage to go any further.

Over time, Mark Hu’s mind became warped. He desperately wanted to do something to those reckless women who frequented these places every night, but he didn’t dare. Inside, though, he was excited—always anticipating.

But as always, Mark Hu could only sneak glances at the drunken female passengers through the rearview mirror while driving slowly. When he dropped them off, he’d help open the door and lend a hand—nothing more.

I was getting anxious. Every night, this guy’s black mist would spill out when he drove at dawn, but he never acted. And I couldn’t do anything. According to Master Fortune, Children of Malice are utterly unable to suppress their murderous urges—even dreaming about them—until they finally kill.

These people all share a trait: they obsess over these thoughts day and night, can’t sleep, restless, but rarely act. Yet, when they do, what they do is far more terrifying than ordinary Deathbane Aura carriers.

Mark Hu could never cross that line. But one night, he finally made a move—he saw a woman, her body surrounded by black mist, completely exposed.

As the car carried this woman, too drunk to move, down a deserted road, Mark Hu removed the license plate and began his plan.

To keep the woman from screaming, he taped her mouth and bound her hands and feet, driving the car along deserted, dilapidated roads out to the outskirts.

Mark Hu finally snapped. The murderous intent in his heart erupted—after finishing, he killed the woman and buried her in the wilderness. But to my shock, the Deathbane Aura on Mark Hu vanished instantly.

No one noticed. After his success, Mark Hu began plotting his next move—and succeeded again. Watching this made my heart pound. Yet the black mist that had leaked out always seemed to retract back into his body after each crime.

The only change was Mark Hu’s body—parts of him started turning black. He became obsessed, committing crimes several times a month. Soon, ghosts began to gather around him, but the female ghosts couldn’t get close to Mark Hu.

Mark Hu was less and less human. His actions grew more depraved. In my eyes, only his face remained normal, but even that face became ever more twisted and ferocious. I felt a deep, murderous intent.

Finally, one night, Mark Hu’s whole body turned black. Suddenly, I appeared before him, grabbed his neck, and pinned him to the ground. It was pure murderous intent—a predator’s urge to kill, no longer human, but a monster inside.

I devoured Mark Hu, eating him completely, leaving nothing behind. Everything around me collapsed. In that moment, an image appeared: Mark Hu jolted awake—in the dream, his Deathbane Aura had been taken by me.

I felt uneasy, my heart filled with rage and murderous intent. This is Deathbane Aura—the purest form, born from human malice.

Some people may never commit such acts, even to their dying day. Now I finally understand why Endbringer chose these three for me—they’re the kind who, from start to finish, bury pure murderous intent deep in their hearts, never acting on it. But in dreams, that intent erupts, becoming another self, carrying out what they want to do but never dare.

Sadness and anger—these two negative emotions flared up again in my heart, like ashes rekindled. I felt pain, and thinking of Wu Xiaoli’s situation made me even angrier.

Everything around me had vanished. I found myself back in a black void, before me a Buddha radiating golden light. Beneath it, an image appeared—I walked toward it.

The second person was a woman named Wu Xiao. Plain-looking, almost masculine, she lived a hard life. She had one passion: feeding stray dogs and cats. She loved doing this.

Simple and naïve, Wu Xiao’s family was poor, so she lived in a single-story, run-down shack. The place was soon to be demolished. Every day, Wu Xiao would save leftovers to secretly feed the animals, often scavenging unwanted scraps from the market for them.

Wu Xiao had no real friends—only the cats and dogs were her companions.

One day, a dog Wu Xiao fed didn’t show up. Worried, she saw at her doorstep a group of young men on motorcycles dragging a skinned, dead dog to a shop to eat.

In that instant, I saw black mist erupt from Wu Xiao’s body—she was furious. That boiling murderous intent carved a deep wound in her heart. From that moment, Wu Xiao wanted to kill those young men.

But every day, she kept feeding the animals. The cats and dogs adored her. The area was set for demolition, and Wu Xiao was forced to move—she couldn’t bear to leave them.

Eventually, Wu Xiao had no choice but to leave. In her new place, it was as if she lost her soul—she drifted through each day.

Now Wu Xiao attends a medical college, but she still feeds stray cats and dogs every day.

I grew anxious—Wu Xiao’s murderous intent seemed to have been buried deep inside.

But one day, Wu Xiao heard a cat’s desperate cries. She found a kitten with its belly slit open, intestines spilling out—it soon died.

At that moment, murderous intent surged inside her again. The university’s surgery department used stray cats and dogs for live dissections—everyone at the medical school knew. Wu Xiao watched again and again as these animals were tied up, sharp scalpels slicing into them.

Wu Xiao was beside herself with rage—her murderous intent reached its peak.

Driven to kill, Wu Xiao poisoned the drinking water. Her body turned completely black, her murderous intent blinding her. She kept poisoning the school’s water, as if she wanted to kill everyone in the medical college—including herself.

I appeared and devoured Wu Xiao’s Deathbane Aura. Then, something called love and hope began to well up inside me. I felt the warmth behind that murderous intent.

The dream ended. Wu Xiao woke up in bed. I watched her as she chose to leave. Unable to stop or avenge any of it, she decided to quit medical school and use what she’d learned as a foundation to study how to heal animals instead.
