Evan Chu had no idea how long he'd been flying through the air, but at last he grasped the secret of borrowing Heaven-and-Earth power for flight—and even began to understand the principle known as Spatial Lockdown.
This breakthrough was a massive gain for Evan Chu. In truth, borrowing Heaven-and-Earth power is actually quite simple; it’s just that his body is unusual. Anyone else would’ve figured it out ages ago.
Normally, breaking into the Heaven Martial Realm means condensing a Heaven Star Core inside the body. At that point, you resonate with Heaven-and-Earth power, and a lot of things just come naturally—almost like instinct, without needing much time or effort.
But Evan Chu is different. His Heaven Star Core is completely unique—in fact, it’s not even a Heaven Star Core, but a Dragon Pearl. When he broke through to the Heaven Martial Realm, he didn’t experience any resonance with Heaven-and-Earth power, so now it’s much harder for him to achieve that connection.
Thankfully, Evan Chu’s perception far surpasses the norm, so he managed to find this sense of harmony in a short time. Now he can basically borrow Heaven-and-Earth power at will, and his flying speed is shockingly fast—especially with the speed talent boost from Goldwing, which left Selena totally stunned.
Still, since it’s Evan Chu’s first time mastering Heaven-and-Earth flight, he’s not fully skilled yet. But the more he flies and gains experience, the faster he gets—until eventually, even Selena can’t keep up, and she keeps yelling that he’s a total freak.
Afterward, Evan Chu and Selena returned to the Mermaid Capital. At that moment, the Mermaid King and other palace experts were gathered inside Savor House, staring at the corpses and ruined restaurant as he roared, “Who could be so brazen as to cause trouble in my Mermaid Kingdom?”
No one dared reply, and nobody knew how to answer. It was like an unsolvable mystery—no clues to follow. That middle-aged man seemed to appear out of thin air, then vanished just as suddenly. Most shocking of all, someone discovered the owner of Savor House in a hidden basement below.
But now he was just a dried-up corpse. Beside him lay two more bodies—both women, both completely naked. It was obvious the owner was ambushed and killed while in the middle of ‘business.’
Claire Ouyang was present too, but she didn’t say a word. The killer was already gone, so what was there to talk about? Who would believe it if she said he was from the Demonic Realm?
Just as the Mermaid King ordered a citywide search, Evan Chu and Selena returned. Seeing everyone gathered there, the Mermaid King’s face was filled with rage—clearly furious about what had happened.
Evan Chu stepped forward and said, “Father, the culprit has already escaped. He was a seventh-layer Divine Martial middle-aged man, and he’s probably heading toward the Azure Tide Ruins right now. We should give these people a proper burial. After all, this is the Mermaid Capital—if word gets out about such a huge incident, rumors will fly and your authority will suffer.”
Evan Chu spoke softly, but the Mermaid King still heard him clearly. After glancing at Evan Chu, he asked, “Is this true? Did you two just go after that man?”
“That’s right. We even fought him, but he still managed to get away!” Evan Chu replied. He knew the Mermaid King would find this hard to believe—after all, he and Selena shouldn’t have the power to let a seventh-layer Divine Martial expert escape. But he had a way to make the king believe him.
“Evan, I know you just want to spare your father extra worry, but this is no small matter. If the killer isn’t caught, the whole capital will live in fear, always worrying he’ll come back,” the Mermaid King said, though he didn’t directly point out that Evan and Selena weren’t strong enough for such a fight.
“Father, I know what you’re thinking, but I can tell you straight—I really do have the power to kill a seventh-layer Divine Martial expert. Do you believe me?” Evan Chu said seriously.
“Is that true?” The Mermaid King was clearly shocked to hear this.
Evan Chu glanced at the ruined Savor House and said, “This restaurant is a total wreck now. I think we should just tear it down and build a new one. Father, let me show you how I’ll do it.”
After speaking, he looked at the Mermaid King, hoping for his approval. The king nodded, eyeing his mysterious son-in-law with suspicion.
Evan Chu focused his mind, and a Flarefire ball instantly appeared in his palm. He quickly hurled it toward the restaurant’s ruins.
When the Mermaid King saw the Flarefire ball appear in Evan Chu’s hand, a flicker of surprise crossed his face. But Evan moved so fast, he didn’t even feel the heat.
He was shocked inside, but still looked down on Linfeng’s move—using fire to burn down the restaurant should take at least half a day. What happened next, though, left him speechless for ages.
As soon as Evan’s Flarefire ball hit the ground, it splashed outward, instantly igniting all the wood nearby. The burn rate was terrifying—within the blink of an eye, the whole restaurant was ablaze.
The intense heat sent the surrounding temperature soaring by dozens of degrees, making everyone instinctively retreat. In less than five minutes, the entire restaurant was reduced to ashes.
The Mermaid King stared at Evan Chu and asked, “What kind of fire is that? Is it really Flarefire?”
“That’s right, it’s Flarefire. That’s why the killer managed to escape—now you believe me, don’t you, Father?” Evan Chu said with a smile.
“You really are a genius. Let’s go back! We’ll discuss this further at the palace,” the Mermaid King said, then flashed into the air dozens of meters away.
A ninth-layer Divine Martial expert’s speed is on another level, but Evan wasn’t slow either—he shot into the air and kept pace, just half a beat behind.
In just a few breaths, the two arrived at the palace. Claire Ouyang and Selena showed up soon after. Seeing Evan Chu’s speed, the one most shocked wasn’t the Mermaid King, but Claire.
She clearly remembered that when she left, he hadn’t mastered Heaven-and-Earth flight yet. Now, in such a short time, his speed was already this insane—she could hardly believe her eyes.
“Evan, anyone who dares cause trouble in my Mermaid Capital clearly doesn’t respect us. If we don’t punish him, how can we convince the people? Where’s the dignity of our kingdom?”
I heard from Claire that you’ll be heading to the Azure Tide Ruins soon—if it’s true, I hope you can bring that criminal back. That way, I can answer to all my subjects!” the Mermaid King said.
“I’ll definitely complete the task, Father. But I need to go into seclusion first—my current strength isn’t enough for the Azure Tide Ruins!” Evan replied.
“Alright. When you come out, come see me—I have something for you.” With that, the Mermaid King left.
Evan Chu then returned to Claire Ouyang’s residence with her and Selena…
