Settling Down

1/11/2026

The Prefect of the High Zhou Capital holds a third-rank post—already a high official, but in a city packed with top brass, it’s nothing special. Naturally, the capital is full of officials’ sons, and even among the wastrel heirs, there’s a clear pecking order.

For example, Vergil Beigong and Brandon Nangong are the absolute top-tier wastrels.

Jasper Easton ranks just below them, while the brocade-robed youth is only the Prefect’s third son—so among all the wastrels in the capital, he’s basically at the bottom.

If he wants to climb the ladder, he’ll need either real skills or the backing of a big-shot among the wastrels.

Big shots like Vergil Beigong and Brandon Nangong wouldn’t bother with him, so he’s long had his eye on cozying up to Jasper Easton.

But now that Jasper Easton’s here, he’s managed to offend him instead.

Seeing Jasper about to leave, Warren Wei refuses to let this chance slip away. He strides forward, blocks the path of Jasper Easton and Ian Song, bows deeply, and says sincerely, “Young Master Jasper, Young Master Song—my earlier behavior was out of line. Please, give me a chance to make it right!”

Jasper Easton’s expression turns cold. “Out of the way!”

Warren Wei persists: “Young Master Jasper, I actually have several vacant mansions under my control. If Young Master Song likes any of them, I can give them to him for free!”

Jasper Easton sneers, “Like Ian would care about some broken-down house of yours? With his status, people would line up to offer him mansions—why would he settle for yours?”

But now, Ian Song was connected to both of them—how could Warren not be excited?

At this moment, Warren was like a die-hard fan meeting a superstar.

“No need for all that, Young Master Wei!” Ian Song said, helping Warren up.

“If you don’t mind, just call me Little Wei. Right, weren’t you looking to buy a house?” He turned to Manager Marks: “Ma Yuan, bring out the jade-slip projection of our brokerage’s best estate!”

“Right away!”

Manager Marks hurried off, quickly producing a jade slip and activating a spell. Instantly, the image of the mansion appeared, suspended in midair.

Warren personally acted as commentator: “Young Master Song, this mansion used to belong to Prince Muyeno. Later, he made a mistake and was expelled from the capital by the Empress, forbidden ever to return. It took us a great deal of effort to acquire it. Prince Muyeno was notoriously extravagant, so every part of this mansion was built with the finest materials. The construction alone cost a staggering 150,000 top-grade spirit crystals, and since it’s located in the most prosperous district, the five hundred-acre plot is worth over 50,000 more. We paid 220,000 top-grade spirit crystals for it. If you like it, I can sell it to you for 180,000!”

“What do you all think?”

Ian Song turned to Lila Li and the others for their opinions.

“It looks great,” Lila Li nodded.

Wendy Lin, Raina Quinn, and Stone Ling all voiced their approval—the mansion was excellent.

Since everyone liked it and Ian Song thought it was great too, he told Warren, “No need for the 180,000 discount. I’ll buy it for 230,000!”

He wasn’t short on top-grade spirit crystals. Just those he’d brought from the cultivation world totaled over twenty million, and looting the Prime One Church’s branch altars had netted him nearly a million more.

Warren wasn’t happy at all when he heard Ian was willing to pay 230,000—instead, he looked a little disappointed. “Young Master Song, I really admire you. It’s my honor to have you buy a mansion from me. How could I profit off you? Let’s just make it 180,000, okay?”

Ian thought for a moment. “Alright, I’ll buy it for 220,000. If you don’t agree, I’ll walk away!”

Seeing Ian insist, Warren had no choice but to agree.

Half an hour later, the contract was finalized—the mansion officially became Ian Song’s property.

Afterward, Warren enthusiastically invited Ian and the others to dinner.

This time, Ian didn’t refuse.

That evening, Ian Song and his group officially moved into their new mansion.

The whole estate covered more than five hundred acres, but with only a handful of residents, it felt far too empty. Warren Wei thoughtfully sent over a group of high-quality maids and servants to liven up the place.

Not long after they moved in, visitors started arriving.

Brandon Nangong, Jasper Easton, and several other wastrel heirs sent congratulatory gifts.

Soon after, Mooncaller from Starpicker Loft sent a gift as well, followed by presents from several unfamiliar figures.

“Young Master Song, Sister Lila, it’s time for us to take our leave!”

At dusk, Hannah Murong came to bid farewell.

Ian Song smiled. “Hongdou, you and your grandfather don’t have a place to stay in the capital, right? I’ve got plenty of empty buildings here—why not move in?”

Master Heaven-Secrets smirked, “Kid, at least you’ve got a conscience!”

“Isn’t that a bit much?” Hannah Murong hesitated.

“What’s the problem? All those empty buildings are just sitting there. Living here will help this kid draw a crowd!” Master Heaven-Secrets said bluntly.

“Grandpa, how can you say that?” Hannah Murong protested, a little annoyed.

“Actually, the old gentleman’s right. Having you both here will definitely make the place feel more alive!” Ian Song said, not the least bit upset.

And so, Master Heaven-Secrets and Hannah Murong moved in as well.
