Margaret Evans Was Bullied

12/2/2025

As soon as Lily Evans heard that something had happened to Margaret Evans, she sprang to her feet, her expression changed, and she grabbed Lucky before heading outside.

Outside, Cynthia Wu looked anxious. When she saw Lily arrive, she grabbed her arm and hurried her along.

"Cynthia, what happened to my mom? What do you mean she was bullied?" Lily was frantic. Margaret had just gone to visit the neighbor lady next door—how could trouble come so quickly?

Cynthia explained as they walked, "Your mom was just walking along when your grandma suddenly jumped out and started yelling at her, accusing her of being a thief and stealing from the Evans family. Then your grandma and Helen Parker ganged up and beat her! Lily, don’t worry too much—there were a few aunties nearby who pulled them off, so they didn’t get many hits in. Your mom’s at my house now, and my dad is treating her wounds."

Cynthia Wu was the only daughter of Dr. Wu, the village physician everyone went to for ailments.

Lily was furious as soon as she heard—so the Evans family took advantage of her mom being alone to bully her!

Lily had just reached Dr. Wu’s courtyard when she heard Grandma Evans shrieking: "Margaret Evans, you thief with sticky fingers, you shameless wretch! And that little brat you raised, you’re both cursed—why aren’t you dead yet, still here to bring trouble to everyone!"

Helen Parker joined in, shouting, "Margaret Evans, if you’ve got the nerve, come out! Hiding now, huh? Didn’t think about this when you were up to your disgraceful tricks!"

Lily was livid, leading Lucky inside with a dark expression. "What are you two doing, bullying my mom? I’m not letting this go!"

Grandma Evans saw Lily and started cursing even louder: "You little brat, who are you yelling at! Shameless thieves, the whole lot of you!"

Cynthia Wu ran to the door and knocked. "Dad, Lily and Lucky are here! Open up!"

Dr. Wu heard his daughter’s voice and finally dared to open the door. Earlier, Grandma Evans and Helen Parker had chased Margaret Evans to the Wu house, trying to beat her. Dr. Wu, a man in his forties, couldn’t hold back the two shrews, so he had no choice but to shut the door to protect Margaret from further harm.

When Grandma Evans and Helen Parker saw the door open, they rushed in to hit Margaret Evans. But Lucky stood menacingly at the doorway, and the two immediately quieted down, unwilling to give up and instead hovered at the door.

Lily walked inside and saw Margaret Evans’s hair all messed up, her brand-new dress covered in dirt and torn in several places.

Margaret couldn’t help but cry when she saw Lily. "Lily, it’s all my fault. I’ve caused you trouble again."

Lily’s heart ached. She hugged Margaret and wiped her tears, gently asking, "Mom, what happened?"

Margaret nervously fished something out from her chest. Lily saw it was the Silver Plum Blossom Pin she’d bought for her mother a few days ago.

Margaret had clung to the Silver Plum Blossom Pin even while being beaten, so the silver pin was a bit bent. Crying, she said, "I was just going to visit the neighbor lady when Grandma Evans suddenly jumped out and pointed at my hairpin, saying it was bought for her by Helen Parker but that our family had stolen it. I quickly said my daughter bought it for me, but they wouldn’t listen. Grandma Evans and Helen Parker attacked me. Thankfully, a few aunties broke it up, and Cynthia pulled me away to her house. Dr. Wu locked the door and kept those two outside."

Hearing this, Lily was even angrier. Her gaze turned icy as she told Margaret, "Mom, I’ll get justice for you! Let the Evans family see—we’re not so easy to bully!"
