Heaven's Leap Suicide Incident

He was a middle-aged man, probably in his forties, short and stout, dressed in an expensive-looking suit. But his face was pale, eyes bloodshot, and his beard was unkempt. As he staggered along the edge of the rooftop, he looked dizzy and lifeless—a picture of utter defeat. Judging by his haggard appearance, he hadn’t slept for days.

The top floor of the New Orient Grand Hotel housed the VIP gambling hall. The middle-aged man walked to the edge of the rooftop, glanced back at the casino’s sign and the VIP room, saying nothing at first. Suddenly, he burst into a mournful, bitter laugh, full of despair and helplessness.

Rainie Bai also saw the middle-aged man on the rooftop of the New Orient Grand Hotel. She nervously asked Shawn Young, "Ah! Shawn, what’s he... what’s he trying to do?"

"Uh—I don’t know, but it doesn’t look like anything good," Shawn Young shook his head.

Just then, David Yu rushed in from outside and said to them, "Come check this out! Someone’s about to jump off Heaven’s Leap at New Orient again!"

"Jump? Are you saying that guy’s going to jump?" Shawn Young quickly asked.

"Yeah, gamblers here lose everything all the time—suicides happen a lot. That spot at New Orient is called Heaven’s Leap! When someone loses it all, they usually choose to jump from there. That’s why it’s called Heaven’s Leap. A few people die there every month—totally normal! Let’s go watch! Who knows, maybe we’ll snag some luck!" David Yu said.

"Snag some luck? What are you talking about?" Shawn Young asked, puzzled.

"Oh! It’s just a gambler’s superstition. They say when a broke gambler commits suicide, he dies with a grudge in his heart. After death, he becomes a gambling ghost, haunting the casino! But that grudge will latch onto one of the gamblers present, and that person will lose a few years of their lifespan—but in the casino, they’ll go on a winning streak! For most gamblers, losing a few years is no big deal. What matters is the hot streak—the chance to win big!" David Yu explained excitedly, all the while peering out the window.
