The Brain Tumor Serena Feng Will Never Forget
Serena Feng cleared out everyone in the courtyard and repeatedly instructed her hidden guards: no matter who comes—even if it’s the Emperor himself—don’t let them in.
These days, disaster could strike out of nowhere, and Serena feared the Imperial Guards might pull another stunt, barging in to arrest someone.
Last time, the hidden guards hesitated because of their status and trusted Serena’s thoroughness, so they neither stopped nor warned her about the Imperial Guards’ arrival. Serena was determined not to let that happen again.
She lit every lamp in the room, put on her white robe, pinned up her long hair, pulled on gloves, and carefully laid out all the items from her medicine chest.
She drew 5 milliliters of venous blood from Victor Yun and Owen Yuan, running tissue-type compatibility checks, hoping that one of them would match Holden Clay.
Opening the Smart Med-Pack, Serena checked Owen Yuan’s results first. Everything looked normal—he’d clearly taken good care of himself. Only his blood lipids were a little high, probably from too much rich food and wine, but it wouldn’t affect donation.
Serena recorded Owen’s results as she read them—it was much less hassle than pulling the data out of the Smart Med-Pack every time.
Next up was Victor Yun.
Serena didn’t expect much from Victor—she could tell Holden Clay had his own reasons for bringing him. She played along, acting oblivious, and went ahead with Victor’s checkup.
All these noble sons were experts at going in circles—what could be said plainly in a single sentence, they insisted on hinting and maneuvering, showing off their aristocratic airs and forcing others to speak first.
"What?"
Serena was stunned when she saw Victor Yun’s test results. She’d thought it was just a routine illness—she never expected something this complicated.
A brain tumor—Victor Yun wasn’t suffering from ordinary migraines, but a brain tumor. Tumors growing inside the skull are called brain tumors, including primary brain tumors originating in brain tissue and secondary tumors that spread from elsewhere in the body.
Victor’s was a primary brain tumor, originating in the brain itself. Serena didn’t know if it was benign or malignant—if it was malignant, he might have only a few years left. Unfortunately, the Smart Med-Pack couldn’t analyze it in detail.
She specialized in heart and brain surgery, but in this ancient era, those were exactly the cases she dreaded most—one slip and the patient could die on the table.
Even Serena, usually unflappable, couldn’t help feeling a bit rattled by Victor’s diagnosis. If she hadn’t run into him, fine—but since they knew each other, she couldn’t just pretend it wasn’t her problem.
"Forget it. I’ll talk to Victor later and see what he wants. If he acts as coy as Holden Clay, I’ll just leave it alone." Serena couldn’t ignore Victor’s illness, not after all they’d been through.
Besides, Victor Yun’s sudden appearance in the Eastlyn Capital and his connection with her—maybe he’d come for his own illness all along. He might have already been mentally prepared for this.
So... there was nothing to agonize over.
"I dared to treat sons of the Clay and Wang families—why should I be afraid of a Young family son? It’s just a brain tumor. I did plenty of these surgeries in my last life. The worst thing a doctor can do is lose their nerve—if I’m scared, what about the patient?"
Serena composed herself and began analyzing Owen Yuan and Victor Yun’s blood samples. She worked straight through to evening, leaving her maids Jada Tang and Mira Tang frantic with worry.
Their young lady hadn’t eaten for two meals—how could she keep this up?
When Serena finally emerged, her maids rushed to greet her, but she waved them off, saying, "Later. I have more work to do."
She strode straight toward Holden Clay’s courtyard. Jada and Mira exchanged helpless looks—there was no way they could follow her inside.
"Young Master Clay, the results are in. Owen Yuan’s blood is a match for yours. Have him get ready—tomorrow, he’ll move into Feng Manor."
Usually, finding a compatible bone marrow donor—someone whose tissue-type antigens won’t be rejected—is incredibly difficult, even among close relatives. But Holden Clay was lucky: Owen Yuan was a perfect match.
"Really? You’ve already checked?" Holden Clay couldn’t stay calm now. Serena had told him to wait for the results, but how could anyone just wait?
There were plenty of Clay family sons, but few willing to save him—and plenty who’d rather see him dead. If Owen Yuan hadn’t been a match, Holden would have had to beg his clan for help. Serena’s news was a huge relief.
Serena nodded. "I know you’re anxious, so I came to tell you the moment I had the results. You and Owen Yuan should pack up and move to Feng Manor. That’s where we’ll do the surgery—three days from now, I’ll return, and the operation is set for five days from today."
Bone marrow donation means collecting marrow blood, which is actually harvesting hematopoietic stem cells. The donor enters the hospital five days before the procedure, receives a mobilizing injection daily for four days, and then the cells are collected on the fifth day—the surgery can happen that same day.
