The Beginning of War Part 6

The attack from Old Hell began once again. I sat on the ground, feeling weary. Just now, when I tried to inject my own power, I found that my strength was instantly swallowed by that devouring tree—I couldn't control it at all. Only after the tree completely petrified did the absorption finally stop.

"Don't use that method again. You could die, Tan Tian."

As Lord Shenyan spoke, Tan Tian nodded.

"I just wanted to determine what kind of power they're using. Now it's clear—they're using the power of Hell."

My eyes widened. The moment I thought of Ethan Zhang, I felt a wave of discomfort.

"So they have the ability to use Hell's power to wage this war."

Perry Min stood up as he spoke. On the platform, dozens of Blue Wraiths had gathered; they all rose to their feet, making a whooshing sound. Accompanied by streaks of green light, the Blue Wraiths flew to the front of the vine bridges that had been rebuilt, preparing to fend off the enemies charging from the other side.

"We can't keep going like this. Is there really no other way?"

I asked, and Lord Shenyan nodded.

"We just have to keep enduring."

I stared at Lord Shenyan in confusion, unable to fathom what he was enduring. If he didn’t act soon, we would surely lose control here. Even if Lord Shenyan could slaughter countless ghosts, his strength would eventually wane, and then he’d be forced to retreat.

The Swordmaster Guild under Lord Shenyan’s command looked utterly exhausted, yet they had no choice but to defend the flanks of the fortress against the oncoming enemies.

"Let’s go, Rachel Lan. I’ll take you to see the battlefield over there."

I responded with a quiet hum. The Violet Beast materialized beneath me again, lifting me straight into the air. Glancing down at the chaos below, I saw that with the help of the Soulshroud Ghosts, the enemy wouldn’t be able to cross the bridge anytime soon.

In the blink of an eye, the beast had carried me into the depths of Netherhell. I looked curiously at Tan Tian—he seemed to know exactly what Lord Shenyan was enduring.

"What exactly is going on?"

I asked, and Tan Tian came to a halt.

"What do you think is the core of war?"

"It should be the disparity in troop strength and the difference in combat ability, right?"

Tan Tian nodded, but then immediately shook his head.
