Thud. Thud.
Redcloud Daoist and Shao Yuan Daoist's bodies collapsed to the ground. Quinn Shepherd sheathed his sword and looked up—Drake Dandy was already far away, her crimson serpent moving so fast that catching up was nearly impossible.
"Tonight, the Underworld Couriers will have more wandering souls to collect. Pity I couldn't send off Drake Dandy. She's sharper than the others—she escaped the battle at Heaven-Wave City too."
Quinn let out a breath. Now Drake Dandy was alone—one hand can't clap. If she dared to come after him again, she'd be dead for sure.
The reason this fight ended so cleanly was teamwork. Redcloud Daoist's cultivation and strength were no less than Drake Dandy's.
Redcloud Daoist carried a sword chest on his back—clearly, his greatest skill was swordplay. The Nethervault Demon King's eight arms blocked his swords, letting Quinn close in without fear.
The Demon Ape's strength was raw power, and with the Xiqiluo Staff and Grand Buddha Mahayana Scripture, he could stun Redcloud Daoist, leaving Quinn to finish him with a single sword strike.
As for Drake Dandy, her true combat power lay in that massive crimson serpent. She'd refined it so far it was nearly a flood dragon. Dragon-Qilin was the perfect match, overpowering the red serpent and forcing Drake Dandy to abandon Redcloud Daoist.
Unable to help, Drake Dandy had no way to save Redcloud Daoist—his death was inevitable.
But if Drake Dandy escaped, Quinn had no hope of catching her. Chasing her meant certain death for him, and neither the Nethervault Demon King, Dragon-Qilin, nor the Demon Ape could keep up with her speed. So he could only let her go.
"Big guy, did Little Tathagata from Little Thunderclap Temple give you any trouble?" Quinn asked.
The Demon Ape shook his head, pointed at himself, and said, "My name—Void."
Quinn waited a while. The Demon Ape was clearly stating his dharma name, but how could a Buddhist name be just one word? Was it Void-something, or Something-Void?
But the Demon Ape thought Quinn understood and said nothing more. He was truly stingy with words—he wouldn't say an extra syllable.
"It's good for you to train under Little Tathagata. He knows the Grand Buddha Mahayana Scripture, and as a non-human who became a Buddha, he's even better at guiding your cultivation."
Quinn waved, "My elders are missing—I have to go find them. Can't stay here. Come home when you can; Lina misses you too!"
The two parted ways.
Quinn walked in the direction the Underworld Courier had pointed. This time, he no longer felt Drake Dandy's gaze—she'd likely decided she couldn't kill him and retreated.
"I wonder how the fight between Little Tathagata and Jasper Ling is going?"
Quinn was curious about that battle, but finding the Village Chief and the others mattered more. He sat atop Dragon-Qilin's head, riding forward, while the Nethervault Demon King stood on Dragon-Qilin's back, his four faces watching in all directions for trouble.
