Evan Chu felt the killing intent swirling around Selena and was startled, but quickly calmed himself and said, "Selena, why are you being so fierce? Are you really going to kill me?"
Selena did have the urge to kill this kid who dared to mess with her, but for some reason, she couldn't bring herself to do it. She'd never felt this way before, and it left her a little flustered.
"You really think I won't kill you? No one's ever tried to fool me—you're the first. So, tell me, how do you want to die?" Selena's tone was still explosive.
"Die? Why should I die? Sit down and let's talk about why you're so eager to know my secrets." Evan Chu smiled, completely unfazed by Selena's killing intent.
Selena felt almost like crying and laughing at the same time. For the first time, she was at a loss with someone. "Evan Chu, can you tell me the truth? Who are you, really? How do you know so many things you absolutely shouldn't know?"
Evan Chu knew it would be hard to get rid of her without telling some truth. After thinking for a moment, he said, "I am who I am—a waste from a regular family in Flowing Cloud City. If you don't believe me, send someone to check.
Figuring out your identity was simple. Didn't you see through my Pure Yang Constitution? Naturally, I could sense your special physique too, and from there, it wasn't hard to guess who you are.
Don't worry. I promised you—if I find any clues, I'll let you know right away. You know what our physiques mean, so I know you won't kill me."
"You're confident, and yes, I won't kill you. But us being together is impossible—you're human, I'm demon. The only way is for you to become a demon too." Selena laughed.
"Alright, enough joking. Your Soul-Bewildering Incense is really something—I almost fell for it. If my mind and soul weren't already injured, you definitely would've succeeded." Evan Chu said.
"Mind and soul injuries? Is that why you came to Valorcrest Auctions?" Selena asked, surprised.
"That's right. I came to see if there were any spirit medicines that could heal me. By the way, do you happen to have any treasures like Spirit Pearls here at Valorcrest?" Evan Chu suddenly asked.
Valorcrest has been in Xuanwu City for so long, they must have plenty of rare treasures. Maybe they've auctioned off some extraordinary items—maybe there are some clues.
"We don't have any Spirit Pearls at the moment, but at the last auction, we did sell a Fire Spirit Pearl. I remember someone bought it for two million Starstones," Selena said.
Evan Chu's heart tightened as soon as he heard this—there was hope after all. He immediately pressed, "Who bought the Fire Spirit Pearl?"
"Sorry, we have to keep the buyer's identity confidential. I can't tell you that," Selena refused flatly.
"You only keep the consignor's identity secret, not the buyer's! I know I was wrong earlier, and I apologize. Please, just tell me who bought the Fire Spirit Pearl—it's really important to me," Evan Chu pleaded urgently.
Selena didn't understand why Evan Chu was so anxious about the Spirit Pearl, but she couldn't resist his hopeful gaze. At last, she said, "It was bought by Skylar Yule, the Second Prince of the Royal Capital. If you want it, you'll have to ask him yourself. I heard he's here for the event too."
"Skylar Yule? Got it, thank you, Selena!" Evan Chu said gratefully. Since the Fire Spirit Pearl was with him, Evan knew he'd have to find a way to get it. As long as he could become a Royal Capital Guard, he'd have a shot.
"Today's Valorcrest auction—do you want to check it out? There might be something you need. And remember what you promised—I hope we end up as friends, not enemies." Selena said, then left the room.
Only now did Evan Chu finally relax. If Selena really had tried to kill him just now, with her strength, he'd have been dead for sure.
After leaving the room, Evan found Gavin Wei and got ready to head to the auction together. But they had no idea where the Valorcrest auction venue actually was. The auction house was huge, and Evan had never found its exact location; in the end, they had to let the receptionist girl lead the way.
"Sir, our Valorcrest auction isn't held inside the auction house itself. Let me take you there. You have a VIP card, right? You'll be able to enter directly when we arrive," the girl said with a smile.
Gavin Wei was shocked to hear Evan had a VIP card. "Xiao Tian, where'd you get a VIP card? You didn't steal it, did you?"
"How did you know? Keep your voice down—if anyone hears, you know what'll happen," Evan Chu joked.
Gavin Wei felt like crying. This guy was nothing but trouble—he hadn't had a single peaceful day since teaming up with him.
The auction venue wasn't far; it was actually located between Valorcrest and Lyric Hall Auctions. It was usually closed off, which was why Evan hadn't noticed it, and Gavin hadn't asked him about it.
Soon they arrived. The girl asked, "Sir, what's your card number?"
"Number Three!" Evan Chu answered.
"Please follow me!" With that, Evan and Gavin were led into a room marked with the number three.
"Sir, the auction will start soon. If you see something you like, just press the button on this table. The four buttons beside it are for bidding—if you want to raise your bid, just press the number you want," the girl explained carefully to Evan Chu.
Only now did Evan take a good look at the room's setup. There was a table made of some unknown material, with five buttons on top. One was red—Evan knew that was the one for buying.
The other four buttons were white, each marked with a price: one hundred, one thousand, ten thousand, and one hundred thousand. Pretty straightforward.
Evan Chu smiled, "Are you busy today?"
"Is there anything you need me to do for you, sir?" the girl asked.
"I'd like you to stay and help me bid. Since you're the auctioneer, you probably know more about the items and their real prices," Evan Chu said.
"I'm sorry, sir, but I'm hosting today's auction. If you need someone to advise you, I can arrange for someone else to come," the girl replied tactfully.
"Never mind, go handle your work!" Evan Chu said. Gavin Wei was baffled—since when was this guy so impressive, that even Valorcrest's top auctioneer was so polite to him?
The room wasn't big, but it was elegant and refined. There were two wall-mounted frames holding transparent crystal—Evan realized these must let him see outside, probably to watch the auction floor.
It was Evan's first time seeing this kind of crystal, but he understood that you could look out without being seen from the outside—otherwise, it wouldn't serve as a private viewing room.
There were pastries and fruit on the table. Evan grabbed a pastry and popped it in his mouth, then said to Gavin Wei, "If you see anything you want, just bid for it—don't be shy."
Gavin felt helpless. Even if he wanted something, he wouldn't dare—if you win a bid and can't pay enough Starstones, the consequences are serious. If the amount is big, you might even die.
This crazy guy actually dared to swagger around with a VIP card he got by trickery—who knows what'll happen next.
"Don't worry about it—it's just Starstones. Your brother here has plenty," Evan Chu laughed.
Gavin could only nod reluctantly. Soon, the noise outside grew louder—Evan knew most of the guests had arrived, and the auction was about to begin...
