Taking the Blame, Serena Feng Is Innocent
Wrong?
If the person on the stretcher was just an ordinary patient, then Serena Feng would be completely innocent—in fact, the ones at fault would be the Bloodcloak Guard.
But how could it possibly be an ordinary patient? That was clearly Simon Sun, and it was Serena Feng who broke him out. If the person on the stretcher isn’t Simon Sun, then where is he?
Director Warren Wang looked again at the person on the stretcher. In that moment, even he wasn’t so sure. He narrowed his eyes, staring hard at Serena Feng, trying to read something from her face.
Even just a hint of unease or guilt would be enough. But there was nothing—Serena Feng was calm and composed, not caring at all about the person they’d brought in.
Could it be that the person on the stretcher really isn’t Simon Sun?
The moment this possibility crossed his mind, Director Wang felt a chill run through him. The current situation was extremely unfavorable for the Bloodcloak Guard. No matter who that person was, he had no choice but to grit his teeth and insist it was Simon Sun.
Director Wang stared at Serena Feng, his expression resolute. "Serena Feng, stop trying to deny it. What patient? This is clearly Simon Sun, the fugitive from the Bloodcloak Guard!"
Same as before—the Bloodcloak Guard couldn’t afford to lose. And today, Serena Feng was determined to make them lose. Even if she had ties with the Bloodcloak Guard’s leaders, nothing could shake her resolve.
"Simon Sun? Director Wang, can you really be sure this is Simon Sun? I haven’t seen him in three days. If this is really Simon Sun and he was carried out from my manor, why would I bother dragging myself all the way to the High Court to file a complaint? Are you trying to call a deer a horse, forcing me to admit this is Simon Sun just so you can slap me with the crime of breaking out a suspect?"
She’d always wondered why Miss specifically found someone who looked a bit like Young Master Simon—turns out it was just to slap the Bloodcloak Guard in the face. So satisfying.
With that thought, Jada moved faster, quickly unwrapping the bandages on the patient’s face. The injuries weren’t serious—at least, there was nothing wrong with his face.
“This isn’t the Little Divine Doctor.”
“It’s really not him. The Bloodcloak Guard is getting more and more unreliable.”
“The Bloodcloak Guard has gone too far—first they drag in some random soldier to accuse Miss Feng, now they haul in another and claim he’s the Little Divine Doctor. Good thing we’ve all seen Simon Sun before, or Miss Feng wouldn’t be able to clear her name no matter what she said.”
...
The person on the stretcher had no wounds on his face or head. Looking at the unfamiliar youth, Director Wang’s face turned dark. He snapped, “Serena Feng, this patient has no injuries on his face—why did you wrap it in bandages?”
Because I felt like it.
Serena really wanted to say that, but this wasn’t the time or place—she couldn’t be that brazen. Staying low-key was the way to go. So she calmly explained, “This patient suffers from a brain illness. The bandages are to keep evil wind from entering his body. I didn’t expect the Bloodcloak Guard to misunderstand—my apologies.”
She said ‘apologies,’ but there wasn’t a trace of guilt on Serena’s face. To prove her point, once everyone had confirmed the person on the stretcher wasn’t Simon Sun, Serena immediately had Jada re-wrap the bandages, so the boy’s condition wouldn’t worsen.
Everyone knew Serena was lying, but there was no way to expose her. The feeling was infuriating—both Bloodcloak section chiefs wanted to curse out loud. Serena turned away, not bothering to deal with them anymore.
She’d cleared her name; the Bloodcloak Guard was now history. There was no need to keep getting tangled up with them. Stirring up more trouble with the Bloodcloak Guard wouldn’t benefit her.
With the Bloodcloak Guard out of the way, Serena’s next target was Shunning Marquis Manor. But first, she had to send off anyone unrelated to the case.
Serena bowed respectfully to the three judges on the court and said, “Your Excellencies, the facts show this was all a misunderstanding. Now that it’s resolved, I ask permission for my guards and maid to leave with the patient. He cannot be exposed to wind, or his life will be at risk. My guards are also seriously injured and need treatment. I beg you to let them go ahead.”
Serena didn’t blame the Bloodcloak Guard, but just mentioning her guards’ injuries made them feel guilty. Yet, as they thought it over, they couldn’t understand how things had turned out like this.
They’d followed orders to prioritize seizing the person and tried not to clash with Feng Manor’s people. Even when they did act, they hadn’t used much force—so why were these people so badly hurt?
Looking at themselves, several places hurt, but there were no real injuries. The whole situation just felt uncomfortable.
“Granted.” The Chief Justice of the High Court couldn’t favor the Bloodcloak Guard even if he wanted to—facts spoke louder than words. The person was seized from Feng Manor’s carriage, but he wasn’t Simon Sun. He had no reason to hold Serena’s guards.
All the evidence was stacked against the Bloodcloak Guard. In this situation, unless they could prove Simon Sun was in Feng Manor, they were destined to lose.
After today, finding Simon Sun in Feng Manor would be impossible. Even if the Bloodcloak Guard found him elsewhere, it wouldn’t prove Serena Feng had ever kidnapped anyone.
No matter what, Serena Feng is innocent!
