Used to Having Her Around
Grace was clutching her wounded heart, feeling jealous and envious of Cecilia Chen—when, speak of the devil, Cecilia Chen showed up right at the Cold Moon Pavilion entrance.
Cecilia Chen was decked out in a pale blue silk dress with red trim, her hair styled in Danyang City’s trendiest updo. She looked absolutely stunning—full of energy and sparkle. Spotting Grace, she flashed a dazzling smile and called out, “Little Fish!” as she walked over.
Grace forced a smile and called out, “Cecilia Chen, you’re here!”
“Little Fish, your medicine is pure magic! You said those red spots would disappear in two weeks, and guess what? This morning, my face was spotless! Not a trace left!” Cecilia Chen gushed, grabbing Grace’s hand. “Look, even my old freckles are gone!”
Grace glanced at her flawless, porcelain-smooth skin and managed a bittersweet smile. “Congrats, Cecilia Chen!”
Your face is cured, and now I’m the one about to get tossed out! Seriously?!
“Little Fish, come with me!” Cecilia Chen grabbed Grace and dragged her back to Evan Xiao’s place.
Evan Xiao was already dressed in a deep blue everyday outfit, looking intense and sharp—charismatic, fierce, and totally the commanding general.
Cecilia Chen’s eyes lit up and she called out, “General!”
Ever since Grace returned to the General’s Manor to treat Cecilia Chen’s face, Cecilia hadn’t seen Evan Xiao at all.
What woman would ever want the guy she likes to see her looking that terrible?
Now that her face was finally healed, she couldn’t wait any longer—she just had to come see him.
“Cecilia Chen.” Evan Xiao’s gaze landed on her face, and he gave a soft smile. “Your face is all better now?”
“All healed! It’s all thanks to Little Fish—she’s the reason my face is back to normal.” Cecilia Chen looked at Lily Bai with grateful, affectionate eyes.
“So, what brings you here?” Evan Xiao asked.
Honestly, Cecilia Chen didn’t really have any reason to see him.
She was just so happy her face was healed, she got all dressed up and came to see him—hoping to leave a good impression.
She hadn’t seen him in days, and honestly, she missed him a lot.
Of course, she couldn’t just say that out loud—girls aren’t supposed to admit stuff like that!
Spotting Lily Bai standing glumly three feet away, Cecilia Chen’s eyes lit up with an idea. “General, I came here to ask you for a favor.”
Evan Xiao asked, “What is it?”
“See, Little Fish saved my life and fixed my face,” Cecilia Chen said. “I want to ask if I can have her as my adopted sister. Is that okay?”
Lily Bai’s eyes went wide. She quickly protested, “Cecilia Chen, I’m just a useless maid with no spiritual roots. I’m lucky to work here in the General’s Manor—being your adopted sister is way out of my league!”
“Don’t turn me down, Little Fish! You’re my lifesaver, so I have to repay you somehow.” Cecilia Chen turned to Evan Xiao. “General, is it okay?”
Grace panicked and jumped in before Evan Xiao could answer. “Cecilia Chen, I appreciate your kindness, but I have a sick mother and a little sister at home who need me to support them. If I stop being a maid, how can I take care of them?”
Cecilia Chen was stunned. “Silly girl, if you’re my sister now, your mom is my mom and your little sister is mine too. From now on, I’ll take care of everything for them!”
Are you kidding me?!
Lily Bai nearly ground her teeth to dust, scrambling for an excuse, when Evan Xiao finally spoke up: “No.”
“Huh?” Cecilia Chen blinked. “Why not?”
“She’s gotten useful,” Evan Xiao said coolly.
