"Thank you for your kindness."
Evan Lin nodded, neither agreeing nor disagreeing.
"Your Harborview University is pretty good, but internationally, it's still not as well-known as Oxford."
Henderson smiled as he spoke; it was hard to tell if he was just being straightforward or trying to show off. "The car I drove today? I bought it with my own money."
"That's pretty impressive."
Evan Lin picked up the glass of water on the table and glanced at Autumn Zheng.
He hadn't thought much of Henderson one way or the other before, but just a couple of sentences in and Henderson already made Evan feel a bit uncomfortable for reasons he couldn't quite put his finger on.
"He just got here from overseas. His way of thinking might be a little different from ours, that's all."
Autumn Zheng closed the menu, stepping in to smooth things over.
The meal went by peacefully enough.
