Evan Lin was taken aback, then saw the slight blush on Lucy Lu's cheeks and understood.
Evan had originally planned to go upstairs with Charles Chen and Lucy Lu, but at Lucy Lu's strong insistence, he had to detour into the surgery office to change the bandage on his hand.
As soon as he entered the office, Evan noticed Lucy Lu sitting behind the desk, staring at him in surprise and saying nothing, just fixing her gaze straight on him.
Today, Lucy Lu was wearing a white lab coat over a plain white T-shirt, but even that couldn't hide her impressive figure underneath.
Lucy Lu hadn't expected Evan Lin to walk in, and after her initial shock, she recovered: "Come here, let me see your hand. Are you shy or something?"
Lucy Lu looked at Evan Lin, and as she spoke, her heartbeat picked up a little.
Yesterday, this kid actually touched her in that spot.
Lucy Lu had never had a boyfriend, let alone any intimate experiences. Because of what happened last night, she spent her whole night shift distracted and restless.
She could still feel a hint of that moment's pressure on her chest, but seeing Evan Lin's embarrassed smile, Lucy Lu couldn't help but find it a little amusing.
Evan Lin followed Lucy Lu upstairs.
Lucy Lu's eyes widened in surprise as she looked at Evan Lin's left hand. "Your hand is healed?"
Next, Evan Lin looked at Haiyang Sheng's neck, suddenly frowning, then a faint smile appeared on his lips.
Haiyang Sheng lay completely still on the bed, unable to move at all. Only his eyes darted around the room, glancing over everyone's faces. When his gaze passed Evan Lin, it didn't pause for even a moment.
"Is there someone in the hospital who's basically like a vegetative patient? Do you know who that is?" Evan Lin asked Lucy Lu. He figured, as a doctor here, she should know about any tricky cases.
"I mixed up some medicine myself last night and soaked my hand in it. It was just a minor injury, and I'm young and healthy, so I healed a bit faster." Evan Lin made up an excuse, but in reality, it was because he'd formally stepped into the first layer of Qi-Refining—a cultivation stage where practitioners gradually refine their body's spiritual energy, greatly enhancing their physical abilities.
Qi-Refining has ten layers in total. Each layer boosts your physical abilities and speeds up recovery. (Qi-Refining is the foundational stage of Daoist cultivation, where you absorb and refine spiritual energy into the body.)
If it were just a regular Qi-Refining first layer cultivator, a palm wound like his would take at least three or four days to heal completely. But Evan's left hand had a dragon mark—though it rarely showed any reaction, it always seemed to help speed up his recovery.
But looking at Evan Lin, with his extremely simple clothes and especially those worn-out sneakers—clearly shoes he'd been wearing for years—the doctor naturally assumed he was just some random guy who wandered in.
An old TCM master?
Evan was taken aback, then saw the slight blush on Lucy Lu's cheeks and understood.
"It's probably because you used my prescription yesterday and took the medicine, so your body got better."
Makes sense. At my age, if I didn't have an old TCM master backing me, people would definitely get suspicious.
Thinking this through, Evan nodded, "Yeah, my master has wandered the world for years. By chance, he taught me some medical skills a while back."
"That explains it." Lucy nodded slightly. "Yesterday I showed your prescription to our department chief. He said it was exquisitely composed—every single herb works with the others to maximize the effect, and..."
"And what?"
Evan looked at Lucy, curious about her hesitation.
"After taking the medicine, I felt a lot better."
Lucy tried to act calm as she said this, but her heart sped up for a moment.
That prescription really did make my body feel much more comfortable—though there was one moment I can't quite say out loud.
Lucy had the night shift yesterday, got off work at six this morning, picked up the medicine, took it home and brewed it. She drank it, half-believing, and felt a rush of restlessness inside, so strong she had to go to the bathroom and shower for ages before she felt clean again.
Back in her bedroom, Lucy slept straight through to the afternoon, dreamless, and woke up feeling completely refreshed instead of tired.
Evan, of course, knew exactly what his prescription would do, but didn't say anything. Remembering that Charles Chen and Lucy Lu were still at the hospital, he looked at Lucy and said, "Can I ask you something?"
Lucy looked at the teenager in front of her, Evan Lin, a bit skinny for his age, but didn't really see him as a kid. "What is it?"
"Is there someone in the hospital who's basically like a vegetative patient? Do you know who that is?" Evan asked Lucy. As the hospital's miracle doctor, she should know about any tricky cases.
"Are you talking about Haiyang Sheng, the general manager of Wansheng Real Estate?" Lucy asked, glancing at Evan a few times.
"Yeah, that's probably him." Evan nodded. "Can you tell me roughly what's going on with him?"
"Well..." Lucy thought for a moment. "Haiyang Sheng's case is really strange. The hospital has run every test—CT, X-ray, blood, urine, stool, everything—but his body seems perfectly fine."
Lately, Haiyang Sheng's illness has been a thorn in the side of every doctor at Brightsea City General Hospital.
Wansheng Real Estate is a major corporation in Brightsea City, and Haiyang Sheng's condition has everyone on edge. The hospital director has called multiple consultations and even sent his medical records to other hospitals, but nothing has worked.
Lucy Lu frowned. "If there's no improvement soon, he'll probably be transferred to Beijing."

The only reason Haiyang Sheng hasn't transferred yet is because he can't let go of Wansheng Real Estate. If he leaves Brightsea City, it's basically the moment he hands over his power and position.
"Apparently someone invited a miracle healer from River City. I think he's coming today to diagnose the case."
"A miracle healer?"
"Yeah, I think his name is Doctor Wu the Miracle Healer. He's an old TCM doctor, right? I heard our department chief mention him—he's cured a lot of strange and difficult cases before." Lucy nodded.
As they were talking, Lucy's phone suddenly rang. She answered and said 'okay' three times, then stood up.
"The department chief wants me to go up and observe. Doctor Wu the Miracle Healer is about to start his diagnosis." Lucy quickly tidied up.
"I'll go with you." Evan stood up too, not bothering to rewrap his hand.
Lucy glanced at Evan. "You can come, but don't say anything later, okay? I hear Doctor Wu has a bad temper and hates being interrupted during diagnosis."
Evan followed Lucy Lu upstairs.
The special-care ward was on the very top floor of the hospital.
When Evan and Lucy arrived outside the special-care ward, there were already a lot of doctors in white coats gathered at the door.
"Xiaofei, you're here." A younger doctor saw Lucy approaching, his eyes lighting up as he greeted her with a big smile.
"Yeah, what's the situation now?" Lucy nodded.
"The director asked us to observe Doctor Wu the Miracle Healer's diagnostic technique, hoping it will inspire us." The doctor smiled, then glanced at Evan following Lucy, frowned, and said seriously, "Excuse me, this is the special-care ward. You're not supposed to be here without permission. Please leave."
Special-care wards in Brightsea City General Hospital aren't just expensive—they're also impossible to book unless you have serious status and connections.
Anyone admitted here either has power or influence, and visitors are usually from wealthy families.
But looking at Evan, with his extremely simple clothes and especially those worn-out sneakers—clearly shoes he'd been wearing for years—the doctor naturally assumed he was just some random guy who wandered in.
The doctor automatically considered Evan to be someone who'd wandered in by mistake.
Evan frowned slightly.
"Dr. Zhao, he came with me. Just let him watch quietly, I promise he won't say a word," Lucy Lu quickly spoke up for Evan.
"Just make sure you don't say anything. If you upset Doctor Wu, you'll regret it," Dr. Zhao warned Evan, then turned back to Lucy with a smile.
Evan frowned again, his eyes turning cold as he glanced at Dr. Zhao. The doctor, who'd just been acting so high and mighty, suddenly felt a chill and quickly looked away, not daring to meet Evan's gaze.
Evan squeezed in behind Lucy Lu to the front of the ward door, peering inside.
The special-care ward looked more like a hotel suite than a hospital room, with fewer sterile white colors and a much larger, softer bed than the other wards.
On that wide, plush hospital bed lay a middle-aged man.
He was wearing a blue-and-white striped hospital gown, his face a little pale. Though he was bedridden, anyone could see the faintly bulging muscles beneath his clothes.
Clearly, he was someone who worked out regularly.
That was Evan's first impression of Haiyang Sheng lying on the bed.
Then Evan's gaze shifted to Haiyang Sheng's temples.
There, his temples were slightly swollen, like a small bubble had formed.
Next, Evan looked at Haiyang Sheng's neck, suddenly frowning, then a faint smile appeared on his lips.
Haiyang Sheng lay completely still on the bed, unable to move at all. Only his eyes darted around the room, glancing over everyone's faces. When his gaze passed Evan, it didn't pause for even a moment.
Beside the bed, Susan Pang sat sideways, tightly holding Haiyang Sheng's hand, her face full of sorrow.
Standing behind her was a pretty young girl, while off to the side was a thin old man with a rustic look, eyes closed. Then there were several doctors in white coats, then Neil Ping, and at the very edge, Charles Chen and Lucy Lu.
Finally, the old man who'd kept his eyes closed slowly began to speak.
