The Face-Slapping Begins

1/5/2026

No need to say much—the place ahead is Peachvale County’s number one restaurant, Prosperity Tower Banquet Hall. Lily Liu swallowed hard. She’d always been the one getting bullied, but now, dressed up like this and with such an over-the-top scene, her heart couldn’t help but race.

She glanced at Ryan Ling—her "little brother" didn’t seem nervous at all, actually looking like he’d seen way bigger scenes than this. They’d only been apart for half a year, but at this moment, Lily almost didn’t recognize him.

Right then, outside Prosperity Tower, a security manager in a crisp uniform was lecturing seven or eight security guards.

“Today is Miss Wu’s birthday banquet—tons of VIPs and rich folks from all over the county are showing up. You all need to keep your eyes sharp! The people coming today aren’t ordinary, so get it together, got it?”

All the security guards nodded quickly. They knew perfectly well that May Wu loved showing off, and for her big birthday bash, she’d want all the county’s VIPs present. Her dad was loaded—throwing a few million at a birthday party was nothing.

But if anyone dared mess up her big day, they could pretty much forget about making it in Peachvale County ever again.

“Alright, stay sharp—get to your posts and greet the guests!” The manager finished just as a long convoy of cars rolled up, getting closer and closer. Seeing all those luxury rides, his eyes went wide. No doubt about it, these had to be top-tier big shots.

Watching this, a few of the local rich kids attending the birthday bash were totally stunned, all muttering under their breath.

“Whoa, Peachvale County’s never seen anything like this! Who the heck is this baller? None of our local rich guys are this insane!”

“Definitely not from our county. With this kind of swagger, I bet they’re from the provincial capital, or maybe even some big shot from neighboring Xilin Province!”

“No kidding—rich like this is seriously rare. Their assets must be through the roof! I guess the Wu Family really does have connections. No wonder May Wu’s always so cocky—she’s got the backing for it!”

......

Everyone around was full of envy. Just then, a Wu Family servant rushed upstairs, clearly heading off to notify May Wu and the others.

At that moment, May Wu and Snake were still chatting. To get Snake in the mood, May Wu had called all the “princesses” from the second floor over to listen to this big boss share his underworld stories.

Snake was the type who loved to talk, and soon he got onto the topic of Jason Lin. Snake had spent a lot of time with Jason, almost always at his side. When he spoke about Jason, you could hear the admiration—Middle Eastern battlefields, Jiangdong gangs, Jason was always at the front, making the Axe Club’s name feared everywhere. Everyone gave him respect.

The women listening were totally hooked—even May Wu’s face showed joy and admiration. As for that “shootout by the highway,” everyone in their circle had heard about it: machine guns spraying down an entire restaurant. That kind of swagger had already won over all the women.

“These days, if you want to marry a man, you gotta marry someone like Jason Lin!” May Wu exclaimed, all worked up after Snake’s stories.

“Haha, my Princess Mei, Jason Lin is right here in Peachvale County! You can get to him through Snake. With your status as the Wu Family’s eldest daughter, you and this hero are a perfect match!”

“That’s right—Princess Mei, you’ve always been single, never impressed by any guy. Turns out you’ve been waiting for Brother Jason! Well, now you’ve finally found your dream man!”

“If Jason Lin marries Princess Mei, he’ll be grinning ear to ear. Our Princess Mei’s so gorgeous, and she’s got real skills—guaranteed to keep him happy every single night!”

......

“Oh, shut up! Who’s got ‘real skills,’ huh?” With her friends teasing her like that, May Wu’s face went red and she couldn’t help stomping her foot. Snake burst out laughing, even joking that someday Brother Jason should test out whether her skills were really that good.

May Wu pouted and, face still flushed, hurried to head out.

Just then, the Wu Family servant finally made it upstairs, panting, and gasped, “Miss—someone’s here!”

“Who’s here? Why are you panicking? Have some class!” May Wu hated it when her own people embarrassed her—face was everything to her.

“A huge luxury convoy—over twenty top-end cars! There’s stretched Lincolns, Maybachs, super Hummers, every single one is a beast. Total top-tier…” The servant caught his breath and kept going.

Hearing that, almost every woman present stood up. Who could these VIPs possibly be?

Everyone turned to look at May Wu, who was just as stunned. Obviously, no one that loaded was on her invite list.

“That many luxury cars, and all top-of-the-line? No one like that’s come to Peachvale County lately—if they had, I’d know!” Snake scratched his head, confused, but suddenly his eyes lit up. “Wait, could it be Brother Jason?”

The moment he said that, all the women’s eyes went wide. May Wu’s scalp tingled—forget everything else, she bolted downstairs like the wind, her mind replaying her friends’ “born for each other” jokes. She was both excited and stunned, even fantasizing about a future arm-in-arm with Jason Lin, sweet and loving.

“Miss Wu, happy birthday!”

“Hello, Miss Wu!”

“Miss Wu, you look gorgeous today!”

......

By now, the lobby downstairs was packed with guests. Seeing May Wu rush down, everyone greeted her.

But right now, May Wu wasn’t listening at all. She just nodded absently, eyes glued to the entrance. Sure enough, she spotted over twenty luxury cars practically blocking the Prosperity Tower’s doors. At that moment, a tall, imposing man stepped out of a stretched Lincoln.

May Wu had seen Jason Lin’s photos online before, so she recognized him instantly. She couldn’t help but call out, “Ja—”

But before she could finish saying “Jason,” something happened that left everyone totally stunned.

Jason Lin didn’t walk forward after getting out—instead, he opened the door for a woman.

And that woman was none other than Lily Liu—the very person May Wu had planned to crush today.

With a thunderous shock, May Wu was frozen in place. As Jason Lin opened the door for Lily Liu, over a hundred attendants poured out, each one imposing and dazzling.

At that moment, Lily Liu herself looked absolutely stunning, like a fairy descended to earth. Her clothes, her aura, her luxury brands—she was every inch an Oscar-winning star.

“Who is that woman? I’ve never seen her before. Is she some heiress? Even Brother Jason, the top underworld boss in Harbor City, is personally escorting her—this is wild!”

“Heiress? Are you kidding? Don’t you recognize her? That’s Lily Liu, the owner of Lily’s Country Inn near Baytown—she’s even delivered vegetables to my place! How did she suddenly turn into a fairy today? What’s going on?”

“Could Lily Liu actually be a hidden tycoon, a top-tier elite? Maybe she’s always kept it low-key and only dressed up today for May Wu’s birthday. I heard she and May Wu have some history…”

Everyone was buzzing with gossip, watching May Wu’s near-breakdown and the grand procession entering Prosperity Tower. Curiosity was at an all-time high.

By now, Lily Liu seemed to have gotten into the spirit of things. Jason Lin and Warren Yuan led the way, with Ryan Ling and Sophie Su flanking her, and Frank Qin marching behind with over a hundred black-clad bodyguards. It was like a princess’s parade, and Lily Liu finally felt ready to fight back.

As the whole group entered Prosperity Tower, everyone inside and out came to watch. The women who’d been gossiping with May Wu were left speechless, and Snake just about fainted—he even dropped to his knees, realizing he’d just been fantasizing about Lily Liu. Talk about asking for trouble!

Jason Lin shot him a hard look, as if he’d known all along what they’d been talking about upstairs.

“Miss Wu, I’m here to celebrate your birthday—cat got your tongue?” Lily Liu said, and Ryan Ling quickly brought over a grand armchair for her to sit.

Lily Liu sat down in style, her piercing gaze locked onto May Wu.

At that moment, Lily Liu knew—after three years of waiting, she didn’t have to hold back anymore…
