Trouble at the City Gate

1/19/2026

A crowd of Immortals quickly gathered at the gate of Coldriver City. Evan Lin swept his gaze over them and found that the strongest among them was a Golden Immortal, with a few Heavenly Immortals present; the rest were ordinary Immortals and those at the Earth Immortal realm.

Several guards acted as if they had Evan Lin completely cornered, surrounding him at once. One of them said, "Hand over your storage ring unless you want to suffer. In Coldriver City, no one can save you if you resist."

Evan Lin hadn’t planned on causing trouble—arguing with these ants was beneath him. But the mention of the storage ring sparked a nameless fury in his heart. Back when he ascended to the Immortal Realm, Jared Jiang tried to ambush him for his storage ring and ended up being killed for it. Now these ant-like guards wanted to do the same, really thinking he was easy prey.

The strongest in Coldriver City were, at best, Da Luo Golden Immortal. He himself was late-stage Da Luo Golden Immortal—his strength rivaled mid to late Ninth-Heaven Arch-Immortal. Here, no one should be his match. And with the protection of Tom Chu and Jade Chu, even fewer could hope to harm him.

Realizing this, Evan Lin smiled and said, "A storage ring, huh? You’re not qualified to take it. You’d better get lost before I lose my temper, or your only fate will be death."

"Hahaha! Did you hear that? He says he’ll kill us! An early Earth Immortal thinks he can kill us! Did you all hear that? He wants us dead! Hahaha!" one of the guards couldn’t help but laugh.

The other guards joined in laughing, and the crowd all turned their eyes to Evan Lin, thinking this kid didn’t know his place. In Coldriver City, offending the guards was the same as offending the City Lord’s Mansion—only the most foolish would do such a thing.

He looked handsome and refined enough, but who’d have thought he was a fool? At first, some felt a little sorry for him, thinking it was bad luck to offend the guards. But now, they just felt schadenfreude—an idiot like this deserved whatever came to him.

A lot of the crowd’s chatter reached Evan Lin’s ears. His expression shifted slightly and he said, "I gave you a chance. Since you think I’m joking, I’ll give you a lesson."

As soon as he finished speaking, Evan Lin drew the Frostbane Sword from his storage ring. With a casual wave, a graceful strand of sword-light flashed before the crowd. Three screams rang out—three guards now bore sword marks across their necks and collapsed to the ground.
