The sky was just beginning to lighten, but everything was still blurry and unclear.
So everyone moved cautiously, taking each step slowly and carefully.
The path underfoot was muddy from the heavy rain, and Cherry Miller stumbled along, her steps uneven.
Suddenly, her foot slipped.
Before Cherry could even cry out, she found herself pressed against a burning hot chest.
"Careful, I'll walk with you." Ethan Yin's voice seemed to have a magical effect, instantly calming Cherry's frightened heart.
Cherry didn't dare protest and let Ethan hold her hand, carefully following him step by step.
The security team ahead carried the stretcher, moving quickly as a group of four.
That left Cherry and Ethan trailing behind.
"Shelly Zhou has a high fever, you go ahead. We'll catch up soon," Ethan called out, quickly sending away the extra company. "Don't worry about us. Once we're past this muddy patch, the road will be easier."
"Yes, Mr. Yin." The security captain directed his men, grunting as they carried the stretcher and hurried away.
Now, it really was just Cherry and Ethan left behind.
Ethan deliberately slowed his pace, forcing Cherry to do the same.
"After all these years, this is probably the first time I've walked a road like this with you." Ethan's voice, tinged with laughter, was like a ray of morning light drifting into Cherry's heart.
Cherry's heart fluttered.
"If I could walk with you into the future, no matter what the road is like, I'd gladly accept it." Ethan's sweet talk was at max level.
Cherry's face flushed, and she said, "Mr. Yin, please stop saying such things."
"My mouth is on my own body, I say whatever I want. If you want to control me, fine—marry me, then you can do whatever you want." Ethan said, stubborn as ever.
Cherry was speechless.
Sure enough, you can't show this man any kindness.
Strike while the iron is hot.
"Cherry, why do you always say one thing and mean another?" Ethan asked softly. "You clearly have feelings for me, your heart clearly has me in it, so why do you keep saying you've moved on? Oh, by the way, I heard Derek Tang has been getting close to Miss Li lately. Didn't you say you were in love with someone else? Well, your new crush seems a bit unreliable!"
Cherry was so angry she couldn't say a word.
Wasn't he doing this on purpose?
She had almost forgotten about Derek Tang, her old excuse!
Seeing Cherry at a loss for words, Ethan burst out laughing. "Now, who else do you want to use as your shield? If you can find someone better than me, I'll admit defeat!"
"You're making things hard for me," Cherry huffed. "You know that in this world, either no one can surpass you, or it's not my turn! Still saying things like that!"
"Glad you know! If you don't hold on to such a good man, some other woman will snatch me away. Let's see if you regret it!" Ethan chuckled.
"I don't know about regret, but I do know Mr. Yin's skin is getting thicker." After all that happened last night, Cherry couldn't keep up her cold attitude anymore.
After all, he braved the storm and lightning to bring her food and warmth.
