Fanning the Flames

Thinking about this, Shawn Young pondered for a moment, then walked straight over to Sergeant Louis Liu, pulled him aside, and whispered a few words in his ear. Louis Liu immediately nodded, then stepped forward, gathering a few officers and leading them inside the police cordon. After giving them some instructions, the officers nodded in understanding.

Louis Liu picked up a megaphone and walked outside the cordon, warning the thugs who were still shoving against the officers trying to maintain order: "This area is now suspected to be a crime scene and has been designated by the Hong Kong police as a criminal investigation zone. To preserve the scene and help solve the case, we ask that you cooperate with the police. This is every citizen's duty and responsibility!"

As soon as he finished speaking, a middle-aged man’s face changed and he immediately shouted, "Diu nei lo mo! (Cantonese: F*** your mother!) This is Kingwood Village’s best feng shui spot—how could there be a crime here! You cops have nothing better to do than dig around and mess up our land. If you ruin our village’s feng shui, we’ll go protest at the Special Administrative Region government! We’ll also complain to the media about your abuse of power!"

His outburst immediately stirred up the surrounding thugs and clueless villagers, who began to cheer him on. Just as the middle-aged man said, the area around this pond was considered Kingwood Village’s 'feng shui treasure.' Most Chinese, especially in the south, believe that 'gathering water brings wealth,' so the villagers had picked up bits and pieces about this and, whether they understood it or not, were convinced that anywhere with water must have 'wealth energy' and needed to be protected.

The scene grew even more chaotic, with more villagers joining the shoving crowd. If it weren’t for Louis Liu and the officers working hard to keep order, there might have already been a small-scale riot.

This scene surprised Shawn Young quite a bit. He hadn’t expected that, with just a few words from the middle-aged man stirring things up, the situation would get so out of hand. Looking over, he saw the man wedged among the villagers, shouting at the top of his lungs, but his eyes kept darting around nervously, looking shifty and panicked.

"Damn—this guy’s definitely hiding something—" Shawn Young noticed this and instantly judged that the man was guilty as hell. Clearly, he was trying to cover up some dirty secret!

At this point, Shawn Young decided to first fish Wendy Lam’s body out from under the pond. That way, the clueless villagers would have nothing left to say. At the same time, to keep the middle-aged man from escaping in the chaos, Shawn came up with a way to keep him under control.

Shawn Young walked over to a patch of grass by the pond, focused his mind, formed the 'Cloud Seal' with his hands, and began chanting the Rebirth Mantra: "Lingbao Celestial Lord, bring peace to the body, guide wandering souls, let the five organs rest in primordial darkness, announce to all spirits, Mountain and River True Officials, Earth Deities, quickly reveal the yin, as urgent as the law commands—release!"

"What?! That guy is your stepfather?! No wonder—no wonder he's so desperate to stop the police! I get it now. Well then, you really need to cooperate with me. I promise I'll make sure your case gets justice soon!" Shawn said.

"Yes, yes, I understand. Sir, how do you need me to help?" the ghostly Wen Xiaoli asked eagerly.

"Oh—here's the plan—" Shawn explained his strategy to Wen Xiaoli in detail.

"Got it! I understand, I'll do everything you need!" Wen Xiaoli nodded repeatedly, agreeing without hesitation.

Once the plan was set between man and ghost, Shawn's consciousness snapped back to his body. He opened his eyes and saw the scene beyond the police cordon had gotten even more chaotic. More and more villagers were gathering—old folks, women, even kids—just to watch the spectacle. The police struggled to maintain order, and even Wendy Lam and Rainy Cheng had joined the crowd control team, wielding riot shields to barely keep things from turning into a full-blown riot.
